This afternoon I sat on the porch swing to watch Mr and Mrs
Wren feed the babies in my hanging flower basket.
I decided to water the basket, making sure I didn't get any
down in the nest. But when I started watering, both baby
birds fluttered out! Since they landed
around the porch, I just picked them up and
put them back in their nest. The parents came back and fed
them and I took another look....
It wouldn't be long before they wanted to leave the nest....
and sure enough, by the end of the afternoon, they were gone!
I could hear them in the flower garden and their parents were
keeping watch. So very sweet!
15 days to hatch the eggs and another 15 days and
they leave the nest! Of course, these babies will
be cared for by their parents a few more weeks.
Aren't you glad our babies stay a little longer than that?
I'm so sad to see them go, but the front of my basket does
need a little TLC...and water!
I'm sure I'll see them around the yard!
Beautiful summer day.: )
ReplyDeleteAwwwww - the babies have flown. What endearing photos - thank you for sharing the Wren Family Tale these past few weeks. You must feel like a pseudo feather mamma!
ReplyDeleteI just love it that you got to see them up close and personal on their last day in their homey nest! GREAT photos! They will be back to visit often as their hostess is SO GRACIOUS!
ReplyDeleteThat's sweet. Glad you got such a good picture of them before they left the nest.
ReplyDeletehow relaxing that would have been !!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful:)
ReplyDeleteHow extraordinary with a birds nest in a flower pot.;)) It is an ideal place actually, high up away from cats and other predators, safe and warm.;) What a wonderful encounter with nature.;)) The pictures are just lovely.;)
ReplyDeleteI think they are very smart bird parents to of picked your basket to make their nest in.
ReplyDeleteMany homeowners would not of enjoyed them liked you have but they would of really missed out.
Awww. How sweet they are! You got some wonderful pics!
ReplyDeleteI think they were partially raised by you Betsy....you were able to get so close to them and you provided the home....it's fun to watch isn't it?
ReplyDeleteRhonda ~ It was the perfect place for a nest...out of the rain, etc. I did have to smile as I thought of my mother-in-law complaining a few years back of having to chase birds away with a broom from her hanging flower baskets. She wasn't a bird lover like me, I guess! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to be able to watch the wren's journey through parenthood. I think they chose a delightful home! Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteWhy do Mr and Mrs Wren alway pick the most lovely flowers to nest in? I want to welcome them, but they are messy parents!
ReplyDeleteI am sooo glad that our babies stay in the nest longer than 15 days! I'm even thinking of having another baby!
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I could get pictures of our family of Wrens like you did. And you actually picked up the babies? Wow!
ReplyDeleteOur family is still in the nest but I better keep my eyes open because I just know they are ready to fly the coop.
I'm glad it had a happy ending. I was told never to touch a baby bird as the parents will then reject it. Thanks so much for your lovely blog - I look forward to reading it.
ReplyDeleteAw, gorgeous pictures. And beautiful hanging basket.
ReplyDeleteCJ xx
awe...I have had birds do this or try to do this in my hanging flower baskets too! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI believe they sensed your sweet spirit.
ReplyDeleteWhat cute photographs! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThose were some sweet babies there and very nice pictures. Since they flew the nest then that means you and the parents did a good job, maybe they will find a place in your yard to start their family next year.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing and God bles.
What a wonderful story, and great pics. They're such sweet birds... I love the small ones.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet sight, Betsy! They chose a good place to start a family.
ReplyDeleteMy son and daughter-in-law had a family of Robins nest above their back outdoor light this spring.
