Some weeds are so beautiful, I've invited them to
stay in the flower garden! Actually, I'm not putting a lot
of time into the weeding this year. And these thistles are
beautiful when they bloom! Maybe it's my Scottish
heritage that draws me to them! Or maybe I'm
just feeling a bit lazy this summer!

ReplyDeleteWhat one person calls a weed another person can call it a beautiful flower or grass. And by call them a flower it sure does make it easier and nicer to enjoy the garden.

I love the blue colour of thistles.;)) I often dream of a house out in a country, more like a cottage and if I indeed had one, it would have a "wild" garden, that is, I would keep anything in it that would grow naturally. Wild flowers on meadows are my absolute favourite.;))

ReplyDeleteI have a thistle feeder and I have given up weeding beneath it...they FLOWERS are TOO pretty! Your birds will love the seed!
I'm with you, Betsy! My perennials are out of control, my back-garden is burgeoned with branches and bushes, BUT I'm saving on water with all the rain, the birds and creatures feel right at home and it's all so green! Sometimes Mother Nature can do the gardening, don't you think?

Weeds are just flowers that are willing to grow easily and comfortably in your garden, instead of being fragile and needing coaxed. My grandpa's cows loved to be fed thistles. Or maybe that was clover.

ReplyDeleteI've always loved thistles, and just about any weed that blooms and is lovingly brought to me in a grubby, sweaty, little hand.
ReplyDeleteOh, My! I love how the thistles look, too, but I'm biting my thumb - they take over SO quickly and never really leave! One year, I became enchanted with violets...and lost an entire bed of strawberries to them!
ReplyDeleteHowever, along the lines of what Mrsupole said, I adore morning glories, and my grandpa always scorned me for actually planting seeds to grow "a weed like that!"

ReplyDeleteI might not have even known it was a weed if you hadn't told me! I love seeing the wild flowers by the side of the road and in the fields...I think they are usually weeds too.

I think that they are pretty. Isabel called them "missles" last year when she stepped on one without shoes. She thought that was the real name!

ReplyDeleteI'm debating including a close up shot of dandelions as I traditionally think of them as weeds. However, my mother-in-law thinks they are beautiful flowers. We have them throughout our lawn and don't try to pull them. No use anyway.
