The other day The Mister sat down at the boys' computer
to trouble shoot a problem for them. He came out in the
kitchen and said, "Have you looked at their keyboard
lately?" I said that no, I hadn't...that I never sit down
to that computer. We have a spare bedroom that has
turned into the boy hangout....complete with all of their
DVDs, videos, a TV and computer. I pick up the stuff
off the floor and vacuum, but that's about it.
This is also the room that lost the slats to the window
blind a while back. It also needs the filthy wallpaper
stripped and fresh paint all over....I have the paint
and am ready to start on this project as soon as
they go back to school! But....I went back and looked
at that keyboard...oh my....I am embarrassed to say
that something this cruddy is in my home!
But no longer....as I bought them a new one and a
new mouse yesterday. It was far too gone to
take apart and clean like I have done to my own.
And yes, I did the ceremony
to throw out the old. Just Keeping it Real, here....
but may be a bit too real! ha-ha!
I would hate to think what some of my keyboards look like. I know some of the letters are worn off and that bugs me to no end. I can't seem to get the hang of using a keyboard if one or more of the keys has no letters on it. I can type while looking out of the window so I am thinking, somehow, my fingers can see the keys and if there are no letters on it, they can't find it and strike anything close.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, "Yuck" is a good word.
What a difference.;))
ReplyDeleteBut honestly, I so recognize this problem. I have a white keyboard at home and at work and they both look awful in no time.;) However, my eyes seem to adapt to the filth and I have to almost have the cleaning scheduled as a routine, or it would end up black instead of white.;))
Can I just say that the "before" shot is reminding me of my trip to farm last week? Something about the dust that looks like chicken feed. Yeah, that's it.
ReplyDeleteKat
That looks like my keyboard at work. Every now and then I turn it upside down and bang on it to knock the dust, dirt and crumbs out. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteI've been needing to buy a new mouse. Mine sticks. I clean it all the time but it goes right back to sticking....errrrrgh!
The new keyboard and mouse look so pretty all shiny and new! I try not to look at my keyboard - I'm sure there are crumbs on/in it!
ReplyDeleteManuela
That new one is SLEEK!!! At least THEY were NOT complaining about their keyboard...they were probably getting to all of their favorite sites. Or, maybe that was why The Mister was looking at it in the first place huh?
ReplyDeletehaving 2 boys i can only imagine what was residing in the computer. we find the grossest stuff in the most amazing places at times. food is now limited to kitchen...but still...
ReplyDeleteAbe ~ fortunately keyboards aren't expensive at all. This new one was $12 at Walmart...and worth every penny! ha-ha!
ReplyDeleteBrian ~ I have friends that have the 'food only in the kitchen' rule, too. And I'll admit that their houses are cleaner than mine! But I personally would hate to live by that rule as I eat all over the house, including having my coffee in bed each morning! ha-ha!
ReplyDeleteOkay. Now I am going to have to clean my keyboard. This picture looks pretty much like mine, and I'm only one messy blogger who eats while she types.
ReplyDeleteoh, thats not so bad.
ReplyDeleteYou are a good mother to get them clean equipment.
I was a fraternity cook for 3 years and one of the houses was just about like John Belushi's on Animal House.
you would not believe the messes or the filth those boys could tolerate.
Oh Betsy, one time at work I was eating lunch and working (or playing) on computer and I spilled a glass of "buttermilk" on my keyboard!!! I turned it over and called the tech to come to my office....I said "Please don't tell on me" and he replaced it and kept it quiet.....lol I appreciated him so much cause we weren't suppose to eat at computer,,,duh.... (I still like to eat while I am ....playing....)
ReplyDeleteNanny ~ Oh, that was so nice of that tech guy! Who doesn't like to eat while they are on the computer?? I certainly do! And just tonight I now realize that their keyboard looks better than mine! LOL
ReplyDeleteYep, that is way gnarly! The professor eats his breakfast cereal at the computer every morning so we have little milk droplet splashes on our keyboard. Hmmmm, I think I need to wipe it down.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting me. Don't you just love Kayren?
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at this post. I had my laptop sitting on the table and the sun was hitting it. I was appalled at how much dirt was on it!
My own place needs a good cleanout. Your post sort of reminded me. Thanks!!
ReplyDeletemy keyboard is quite disgusting! seems my biggest problems are coffee stains and cat hair! and since I also eat while typing I'm sure there's plenty of crumbs in the crevices, all said and done, I'm surprised the thing still works - in the 2 1/2 years I've had this keyboard I don't think I've ever cleaned it - YIKES
ReplyDeleteHi! Betsy,
ReplyDeleteYour sons keyboard (The old keyboard) looked similar to mine...by the end of the week!
Therefore, I try to clean my keyboard once a week. Thank goodness the colour of my keyboard is black...because it's difficult
sometimes to keep an off white keyboard clean.
Take care!
and
Thanks, for sharing!
DeeDee ;-D
Girl..what an amazing job..come here now and do mine please..LOL.
ReplyDeleteWell daaaaaaaaaaaaaa..I went back to see if you left tips on how you cleaned it, and than I read you bought a new one..LOL.....silly me.
ReplyDeleteyeah Noah's does not look much better!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, that is so funny. I'm thinking that maybe it's from those cheese balls the other day! :)
ReplyDeleteAch! I've never cleaned mine( in over three years, I confess )but have taken the mouse apart a couple of times( 'tis been replaced once )....makes me wonder just how much dust is in the main stack...
