The Mystery of the Leftovers

We've been finding these little containers on the kitchen counter
after dinner lately. Then we caught Alex doing it!
Apparently, he doesn't care for green beans as much
as his brother Harry does! He was taking them
off of his plate and getting them ready to go in the
refrigerator as if they were leftovers.
If he had put on the lid and put them away, I
probably would have never figured it out!

  1. I think this is adorable. Alex is looking out for Harry. I loved reading the post about the green beans back in April. I think green beans are a wonderful vegetable. My husband doesn't care for them. To me, what's not to like? They are yummy.

  2. Trish ~ oh that's funny! That's one way of looking at it. Alex knows how much Harry loves them, so he's saving them for him! Cute.

  4. That cracks me up! You know, Robert and I used to joke about my grandma saving three green beans as leftovers for her lunch the next day. She grew up in the depression, so she had that saving gene firmly implanted. And seriously, it was like she would save three green beans if there were three left...no joke.

I love seeing how your boys do such funny little things.

  6. Now that is cute! And funny, too! Kids and the things they do or how they think sure can be entertaining, can't it? And when you're dealing with autistic children especially, it makes it all that much better to put in one's memory jar at the end of the day!

  7. I just love how Alex handled this bean problem. When I was a little girl I hated peas so I would wrap them in a piece of white bread, squish everything together, make an excuse to use the bathroom and stash the breaded peas behind our clawfoot tub. Unfortunately Mother found them after they began to smell ... from that point on, no more trips to the bathroom during dinner AND everything on my plate had to be eaten ... tell Alex what he did was very smart.

  8. Love reading about "your men!" There is definitely a bean theme with the boys! I have been away (coincidentally in Beantown Boston) and then dealing with the sad decision to put my sweet kitty down after 19 years of pure joy.

But I have been gradually catching up and love the grilled pizza, the wee sparrows, the beautiful wisteria (we used to have it trained over an arbour in our garden too – so pretty), and all your wonderful postings. Give Nugget an extra-special snuggle from me ;-))

  10. Helen ~ Our oldest used to throw his sandwiches behind the couch! We didn't discover them for a few weeks...after they had attracted a few thousand ants. Ick!

Kayren ~ Lucy is going to be there for a while ...she makes me laugh every time I see her! ;)

ELK ~ I used to do the exact same thing..under the rim of the plate! Seemed like such a good idea at the time! ha-ha!

  11. Suza ~ I'm so sorry about your kitty. We lost our cats at 16 and 18, so I can completely relate. I was an absolute mess each time we lost one. Big hugs to you!

  12. Smart boy! I have a green bean HATER at my house too...she would love to do this! She tried feeding them to the cat but the cat doesn't like them either.

  13. I think Alex and Harry just need to work together. Then all the green beans will be taken care of! I love thinking how his mind must have been working ...

  15. He's being awfully good by putting them in the leftover container. So neat and tidy! I, too, was guilty of hiding vegetables in my mouth and spitting them out in the trash!

  19. mystery solved . . . funny! my younger brothers had very inventive ways of "hiding" food they didn't like at the dinner table so they didn't have to eat it. the ways included stuffing meat in their socks so they could discard it later and wrapping up peas in their paper dinner napkin. but the funniest was when my mom took a big drink of her coffee as she was clearing the table and found a spoon full of cooked spinach in it. yep, middle brother brian had put the end of his spinach there assuming mom was done with her coffee. we still laugh about that one!!

  20. Julie ~ that is the funniest story! That is smarter than stuffing things under the rim of the plate!
