We love to watch birds, too. Hubby just found the bafflehead or bufflehead ducks on the small lake he drives by near our house. He took his binoculars last night and we stopped by the road on the way to Ikea last night to see if that's what it was. They are usually only in groups right before the water freezes and right after the ice starts breaking up. They have a really large head, too.
I should take a picture of our basket of bird books in the living room sometime, too. That would be fun!
Betsy, a friend gave me a pair of binoculars a couple of years ago and they are so fantastic for seeing far off birdies up close!! I hope you are visited by many feathered friends!
I love the birds that nest in the tree behind my apartment. I'm sooo lucky that I have that tree out there. It's soooo full in the summertime, and it attracts the birds, which then are attracted to my bird feeder. YAY. There's nothing I love more than sitting on my balcony, reading a book, drinking a glass of wine and waiting for the birds to come and go. Bliss
I love birds too; they look so fragile, yet they are very strong little things. And so lovely to watch. I like to look at the birds in my garden as well.;))
We've been doing our fair share of bird watching too. Last week we spotted some brown headed cow birds for the first time on our feeder. Sadly, the gold finches (my favorite) have not appeared... so far.
Oooh ... what a neat post. First, my mom always was interested in birds and a childhood memory is her looking up various birds she would see in her "bird book". I LOVE that photo of Taylor and his bird, also! Susan
My grandparents and my parents passed on the "birder" gene to me. I love birds and wish I saw more where I live downtown.
Growing up we always had all sorts of "designer" feeders and birdbaths for different types of birds and they would flock to our garden. Nothing like the cheery red of a gorgeous cardinal on a wintry white day to cheer you up!
Short story - I remember one notable Christmas when my brothers and I were really cold visiting my folks' house - they tend to keep the temperature quite low. Dad and Mom exchanged gifts and they had given each other a beautiful ceramic HEATED birdbath for the birds in our garden. So the joke amongst us always was "Sure - the birds get a beautiful, heated bath outdoors, but meantime we are freezing inside!"
I like that quote. Birds are one of my favorite things. I know I tried to fly like birds when I was little. And I could fly in my dreams. It was the most exciting times of my life.
i share your love of birds, betsy. the photo of taylor and mr. bird is so cute. we had a cat named mr. gray once and my kids social studies teacher was also mr. gray. it made for some interesting looks when i would be telling a story about my cat and people thought i was talking about the teacher. lol
I love my birds too, Betsy. Have books I refer to also. I am happy to feed and water them, love their beauty and songs! (just not at 4am/ha)
