Got Bananas?

I rarely go to the grocery without someone asking me if
I have a big family. With this many banana bunches
in my cart, how can you blame them!
I seem to buy multiples of everything in my cart!
I smile and say "Yes, I have 4 teenage boys!"
They usually gasp...probably imagining my grocery bill!
All of these will be gobbled up within the week!
And believe it or not, the triplets alone eat 10 pounds
of strawberries each week!
I really need a bigger refrigerator!
And in case you just might be wondering,
I didn't see any strange faces looking at me this time!

  1. Hee, hee! And to think I only buy 4 bananas (not 4 bunches) each week, and usually I end up making banana bread because the don't get eaten.

  2. MG ~ Isn't that something! I was thinking the other day that I haven't made banana bread in ages...because I never have a banana around here long enough to get that ripe!

  3. Gee, I only got three but our consumptions are just a bit over than yours..

  4. I don't buy that many bananas, but I guess I buy that many of other things...maybe not quite, but close. But mine aren't all teenagers yet either, or boys.

Plus I don't get strange looks like 'do you have a large family' looks, because I often have them with me. I get the 'are they all yours' question, like I'd go out canvassing the neighborhood picking up stray kids just for some extra fun at the store. Although I don't get it as much as when they were all very small and I was traipsing along with them, which made the question make even LESS sense.

  5. **YES WE HAVE NO BANANAS****Betsy I tried a great recipe the other day for banana chocolate bread that can be used to make muffins instead. It's from scratch and quite wholesome, and they turned out super-moist. Great use of bananas that get over-ripe, although I see by your comment above that that doesn't happen in your place. You know you might want to ask your grocer if they've got over-ripe bananas in the back of the store that he'd be willing to sell you. That's what I do when I have a craving for banana baking but no over-ripe bananas on hand.

  6. Oh my goodness, that puts my consumption of a banana every week or so in quiet a different perspective.;)

Talking about perspectives; I love they way you chose to show the bunches; they look almost like they are hanging on a wall.;))

  7. Oh, four children. Those banana stickers what? Is that chip? LOL.

  8. I remember when my son was a teenager - he would finish dinner and make peanut butter sandwiches to eat a 1/2 hour later. 4 teenage boys - I can just imagine how much food they go through.

  9. Skywind ~ the stickers are like label. They tell what company shipped the bananas and what country they came from.

  10. Betsy, I thought those bunches WERE hanging until I realized how you had taken the shot! I love bananas but these would do me for quite a while.

One thing I do in the summer is peel a bunch of bananas, slice them and freeze the slices. It is so nice on a hot, humid day to have something icy and tasty. I do the same for green grapes. Feels like a real treat!

Suza ~ this summer I'm going to try your frozen fruit treat!

  12. I sometimes buy 2 or 3 bananas and even put them in the Debbie Meyer bags and end up throwing them away.
Bags are great btw. Glad you mentioned them months ago.

  13. Well, when you put it that way ("I have 4 teenage boys"), it does sound pretty overwhelming! I am just so impressed with the HEALTHY food you keep around. Go, Betsy!

  14. That's a LOT of bananas and strawberries!

I remember having to buy a half gallon of milk and orange juice almost every day when my son was a teenager. He consumed both in great quantities. He's 6 ft 2 inches so he was growing fast those years.

  15. That is a lot of bananas! I'm sure your grocery budget is something else with all those boys to feed. I know my boy seems to always be hungry.

  16. Wow! Do you have banana stands for all of them! That's impressive... and healthy. I thought we ate a lot of these healthy foods.
