Alex

Alex has a funny little mannerism of crossing his fingers.
I've noticed it more and more lately...even when he's asleep!
Is he making a wish? Telling a little white lie?
Who knows, but it's kinda cute!

  1. Chatty crosses her legs at the ankles all the time, even in her sleep. She even did it in the ICN when she was a two-pound preemie. Her shortened name is Alex, too. They must be body-part crossers.

  12. I think it's neat. It could be very comforting to him. I somehow find myself putting my thumb between my index finger and middle finger. My daughter does it too and I even have baby pictures of her doing it. Kind of strange, but I do think it must be comforting in some subconscious way. Alex does have nice long fingers. I love your posts.

  14. Nanatrish has the same habit as me, which is putting my thumb exactly as she describes. I am struck by the beauty of your son's hands, ah youth with all its collagen making skin so soft and smooth. For the rest of us, its constant slathering on of hand lotion!

  15. Betsy I wanted to say what a great tip to nuke your plates before eating hot food. I am going to try that as I dislike my food getting cold before I'm done. Corn niblets especially seem to cool down too fast. By the way, I wonder if the same principle would work with my mug of morning coffee...wouldn't it be great to have the last drop as piping hot as the first? I wonder if it would make the handle too hot to hold though. I'll experiment and get back to you on this....Thanks again for the suggestion.

  16. Lavinia ~ oh yes..the hand lotion! I've been better about it this winter and can really tell a difference!

I'm glad you liked the hot dinner plate tip. Yes, I think you could do it with your coffee mug! Sometimes I just fill my mug with hot tap water and let it sit a minute to warm it before filling it with tea or coffee. That way the handle wouldn't get hot it your mug conducts heat too much.

    Stay warm!

  17. Little things like this make being a mother worth it on the bad days doesn't it? I love his sweet fingers.

  18. My ex-mother-in-law cooked in Palm Beach back in the 50's and 60's. She used to always turn on the oven or leave it on after cooking and she'd put the plates in the oven so they could keep the food warm. I hadn't thought of that in years. I think if you run hot hot water over your coffee cup it warms up the whole cup, but doesn't make the handle too hot.

  19. I think that is very sweet - who knows what it means in his mind ... of course, maybe nothing, but maybe he IS making a wish, or maybe it's a good luck charm. I like it!
