Glorified Boxed Brownies

I don't normally buy box anything, and prefer to bake from scratch.
But there were 3 brownie mixes in the scratch-n-dent cart at Kroger,
and after using my coupons, I was actually paid a few cents to
take them home! So....I doctored them up a little and....they were great!
This mix called for adding oil, egg and 3 T of water.
I changed one of the Tablespoons of water to pure vanilla extract.
Then I added a handful of 60% cacao chips and 1 cup of
whole, raw, unsalted mixed nuts.
The Mister (the true chocolate connoisseur) couldn't tell they were
from a box!....mission accomplished! :)

  2. They look delicious! I love a grocery store bargain like that.

Costco sells a Ghirardelli chocolate brownie mix which is also makes very tasty and moist brownies.

There is an article in the Washington Post (I sent the link to Melinda and she can get it for you as I no longer have it) about a boy with Autism who was cured?

  12. I smelled brownies baking so I just had to stop by for one! I use the box mixes for brownies - I find they rival the homemade variety. Betty and Duncan have these mixes down pat so I let them do the work. Yours look delicious! They probably taste all the better for the sweet deal you got!

  14. Oh WOW, they look so good. One thing I miss most, is not being able to smell foods as they are cooking or baking. But that doesn't stop me from eating. LOL They look really, really yummy.

  15. I have a couple of recipes to "Glorify" brownies that I use cause if I use a brownie "box mix" they generally are a little too boring and plain for me. One box mix I do like though -and I see Pat already mentioned the brand -is Ghiradelli! These really do bake up into some great brownies -especially good if you are really in a big hurry.
Or, for a quick change-up to any box mix brownies, try peanut-butter chocolate chips or white chocolate chips -both make for great additions, even to a regular "home made" brownie recipe.

  16. These look decadent. I have several brownie recipes that start with the box mix as the base and they are wonderful. It never hurts to have a little help from Betty, right? Betty Crocker, that is.

Wow, wouldn't that make it too sweet? I would never think of that. These looks fantastic anyway. "Mission accomplished"--love it!
