I just bought two new peonies and I didn't want any more doubles as they all bend over when wet or in the rain or when windy. So I bought two and thought they were both single blooms. I got home and planted them and read the labels and one, the red one, is a double. And I know it will bend over when it blooms.
I saw some red and white and pinks that were single and after wind and rain they stood tall and were not bent over at all. That's what I wanted.
Abraham ~ Well, I guess I didn't realize there were singles and doubles! These dark pink ones are new...just planted last year. The blooms do seem smaller than my huge white ones so maybe I got lucky and have some singles!
Willow ~ Yes, I will have to do the big bouquets! I hate to see them on the ground! Seems like the big ants like them, too....do you have that problem? They are always hiding inside my blooms. I can see why they are your favorite!
I love peonies!! They smell sooooo good! I wish I had a bush. I know what you mean though, they have such short lives. I would definitely cut them and enjoy them inside.
The little yellow bird caught my eye right away -- so pretty and cheerful!
Peonies are so lovely but as you said, they seem to wither so soon in the rain. Perhaps nature intended that so their seeds would be deposited right into the soil?
Peonies, one of my favourite flowers...with their voluminous blooms and lush yet delicate petals....
ReplyDeleteBetsy, I just adore that little yellow bird on your sidebar, singing its little heart out...
ReplyDeleteLavinia ~ yes, isn't that yellow bird so sweet? I found him on google images. He's like a little ray of sunshine! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo!
ReplyDeleteMG ~ Thank you! They just opened up!
