Hey, Stranger!

Sterling

Look who's been coming around lately!
Haven't seen him since last June!
He has shown up when the snow was very deep
or when it was extremely cold or raining.
He's been bold enough to let himself in
through the cat flap, come in to the living room and
roll around on the floor, trying to be cute and charming.
Hilarious!  Our cats know him, obviously, and are fine
with his intrusion.  He gets a belly rub, some food
and disappears.  Still a little scroungy and not neutered.
Don't know if he has a home or just knows where to
go to eat and survive.  His biggest need seems to be
water when everything is frozen outside.
Seems like he doesn't have shelter and comes
to us when the weather is terrible.
Sure wish he'd adopt us as his forever home.

  1. Awww... I hope he adopts you, too. I'm laughing at him rolling around in the middle of the floor then up and off he goes! :-)

  4. At least he knows where to go
Maybe he heard from the others you're a snip snip show
Don't want to be tied or tied down
So he comes when the weather hits town

    1. I'm sure the others have filled him in
and that didn't make him give a grin.
But rules are rules and I'm kind of strict.
And that includes things that must be snipped. haha.

  5. :) oh, sweet!

Maybe this is as "yours" as he knows how to be. Like the old song, "Papa was a rolling stone..." ..."Papa was a fluffy outdoor cat..." Now you know why I am not a songwriter.

  6. I'm glad that Sterling knows where he can go when things get rough for him...and that the other cats remember him and welcome him whenever he does come around.

  7. Cats can be like that. My very first pet (as opposed to a family pet, like our dog), when I was around five, was a cat named Tippy. And no, I didn't name him. He used to vanish for weeks (or months) at a time, but would return every so often, presumably to see how many other animals we'd acquired since his previous visit.

    1. That's right. Your family had the zoo! Well, at least Tippy came back to visit occasionally.

  8. Hi Betsy - can quite see why you'd like him around ... especially when he's welcomed by the others ... let's hope he thinks sense and brings his suitcase one day soon!! Cheers Hilary

  9. The prodigal cat returns . . . :)
But perhaps he is weighing up the cost to him of being neutered against a permanent residence with you. Someone has spilled the beans to him . . . lol

    1. Yes, I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. haha.. But rules are rules and that particular one is not negotiable. :)

  11. I find that so fascinating that he comes to "visit" I like Eddie's comment about the Prodigal cat returning..what a perfect title.
Obviously he knows he is welcome...you have such a tender heart.

    1. Isn't it something? He just pops in, has a bite to eat and says hello before going on his way. So funny.

  12. Hey Betsy, I am so glad Sterling is ok. The waiting to know if they are good is the tough part of the kitties that come and go. Those cats are luck to have a refuge there with you good folks. An abandoned young kitty has landed in our home. Now we have a 10 month old and a 4 month old here in the house. Oh my is having pets back in our home a joy! Stay warm back there. Taria

    1. Oh, how fun for you! The Mister keeps asking me if I'd like to have a kitten. Can you imagine? I keep saying, "Don't you think we have enough?" haha. But there is something about a kitten, I will agree. Every time I see one on Instagram I think I'd take it. haha.
