I'm linking up with Michelle and her Thankful Thursday weekly
group! As most of you know, I'm an avid bird watcher and
have lots of feeders outside the windows so I can enjoy
my feathered friends all year long. I've been happily
watching Nuthatches, Blue Jays, Cardinals,
Chickadees, Finches, Wrens and Sparrows
this winter, so it was really nice to see some
Starlings in my crab apple tree yesterday!
I know a lot of people don't care for these birds.
They come in flocks, swooping in like a bunch of
bullies to graze across lawns in the summer or
to take over feeders in a frenzy during the winter.
But I love their iridescent feathers and those
heart shaped stars on their breasts.
And murmurations? Don't even get me started!
Today I'm thankful for Starlings.
And especially for this last photo.
Sometimes you're just standing at
the window with your camera at
exactly the right moment!
Swooning at those wings!
And look at the little one with
the crab apple!

and we are thankful for you lovely Betsy for bringing your lovely bird photos and sharing your life!!!
ReplyDeleteWell you are just the sweetest. You made my day. :)
DeleteHi Betsy - lovely to see and read about your birds ... I learn from your identification of them. Must be the moment between the duster/hoover as your renovations occur - a cup of coffee with camera to hand. I love the starlings - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteWe have a little break from now until next Wednesday on the reno! So it was quiet here today. I puttered around and put a few things back into place. And dusted a little (fruitless I'm sure). haa.
DeleteGetting that perfect shot sure can bring a smile
ReplyDeleteProbably gets around that there is good grub and a photo shoot at your sea as they fly many a mile
Betsy's diner
Deletecouldn't be finer
for birds and humans alike.
From old to little tyke. haha.
I also have a feeder outside of my kitchen window. I don't get the best photos from it, though I love to watch the variety of birds that I feed. They have been coming in droves with all of our snow and I love seeing them. I appreciate you linking up today and I hope to see you back again next week. Have a GREAT weekend!
ReplyDeleteI always forget about linking up! Glad I saw your post early enough to join in! :)
DeleteWhat an amazing shot, Betsy! Thanks for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dianna! :) So fun.
DeleteYes, I must agree with Laurie...how thankful I am for your lovely blog, and especially today's capture of the Starlings....They may be bullies, but they are beautiful bullies in flight. What a shot!!!
ReplyDeleteAren't they pretty? I love their feathers even if they have terrible manners. haha.
DeleteMy feeder at the new place just isn’t being established very well. I am getting dew birds. I don’[t think I have enough good trees to get great looking birds.
ReplyDeletefew birds and not dew birds.
DeleteI've heard if you put out a new feeder, you should tie a red string or ribbon on it to attract them!
DeleteBoth great shots, but the second one is terrific!
ReplyDeleteThanks, David. Love those action shots. :)
DeleteVery cool pictures! And I think those starlings are kind of cute!
ReplyDeleteI do too. They just get a bad rap. :)
DeleteSo excellent. And a murmuration.....there are no words.

ReplyDeleteLove all the bird posts and showing the beauty and gracefulness of these sometimes "bullies".
You have to look for the silver lining, right? :)
DeleteWonderful shots! I love starlings, too! - Karen (visiting from Thankful Thursday)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen! :)
Deletebeautiful shots . . . . particularly the second. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Eddie. :)
DeleteAnother great bird picture, keep up the good work and always enjoy your post
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gotcha. :)
DeleteYour photographs are lovely. I don't like starlings but I do admire them for their tenacity. The one in the first photo looks so cute and nothing like a bully, but he might have been eyeing up his next victim!..
ReplyDeleteIt's true...he doesn't look like a bully at all! I have photographed them where
Deletethey looked absolutely rabid. lol.
i love starlings and wish they were up here in the mountains. Whenever I see them in the city i take photos. Beautiful photos you have.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandy! I wonder why they aren't in the mountains. They should go...lol.
DeleteHello Betsy, these are awesome captures and photos of the Starlings. Well done. Enjoy your day and week ahead!
ReplyDeleteTHanks, Eileen! Great to see you!
DeleteTerrific photos! I have never been a big starling fan, but these pics make me appreciate them a bit more. Amazing shot of their wings!
