Random Thoughts

  1. Did you have a nice Independence Day? We had Taylor and Lauren home for the last several days and it was a very nice time!  I need to see those big kids every so often! He turned 26 on Sunday, which is hard to believe. haha. They traveled home today and tomorrow we get back to our regular routines.  You know Wednesday is going to feel like Monday, right?
  2. I bid on this old chippy colander at an auction recently.  I thought I might sell it but it seems to have found its way into my kitchen to stay.  I'm thinking it will be a good thing to have when I'm out in the garden picking veggies!  It can go straight into the sink for everything to get a rinse!
  3. Our new little rescue cat Pepper is doing great!  I still haven't gotten him into the vet but he is improving every day.  And what a sweet kitty he is!  Nobody responded to my notice on Facebook about him, so I guess he's ours forever and that's ok with us!
  4. Can you believe it's July already?  The summer is flying by!  Here in Ohio our gardens are starting to flourish with lots of green fruit growing and teasing us before everything ripens.  It's always fun to watch sprouts break through the ground and thrive in the soil and a good watering every day.  Speaking of watering, it's hilarious to watch the cats when I use the garden hose.  They act like it's a big snake and they are ready to pounce if it makes a move. :)  Never a shortage of entertainment in this house!
  5. I think I'll be picking my first basket of blackberries this week. There actually might be enough for a small cobbler!  Yum.
  6. And God Bless you, America.  Happy Birthday to you!

  1. Blessings and happy birthday America too.
I always enjoy your random thoughts.
Today we were just plain lazy...didn't go anywhere or do anything.
Ate hot dogs and baked beans...what a celebration for these two oldsters.

    1. We were kind of celebrated out after the long weekend with the big kids.
The Mister worked all day....and I stayed home with the boys.
We ate leftovers. Very laid back. haha.

  2. Happy 4th of July! =)
The Lemons are so pretty in your pictures! We had a very quiet 4th of July ( and I like it that way! ) =)
Sounds like you have had a great visit with Taylor and Lauren!

  4. I love chippy things. Looks great with the lemons.
Must be such fun to plant, watch things grow, and then... eat!
That's great news about Pepper. He has lucked out finding you and the Mister. Are the other kitties welcoming him?
    Happy Fourth!

    1. You know the other cats have been great! We usually have a couple that are stinkers...usually Jack..haha....when a new one comes in. But they all seemed to know he needed help. They were like that with Slate, too. Marmalade has been especially sweet to him. Love that. :)

  5. Getting caught up in your blog while waiting for the fireworks to begin. Glad you had a nice weekend with Taylor and Lauren. 26? I'm sure it doesn't seem alll that long ago that he was still a boy.

    1. Oh yeah....it's kind of surreal seeing your babies as grown adults....happy and a little bittersweet...but mostly happy. :) Wait until Kai is 26...you'll wonder where the years went!

  6. I too love your random thought posts. I have a thing for colanders. This one is a great one for your garden. I just like the looks of it a lot. the lemons add such a splash of color.

We always stay home for the 4th...The Molly factor..She hates the fireworks, and they are all around us. I gave her a "fireworks" pill and we closed all the windows and turned the TV louder....Fixed our own little picnic of hotdogs, potato salad and pasta salad, chips and salsa....ice cream for dessert. Nice day.

    1. Aw poor Molly. I don't blame her. Our cats crawl on their bellies to get under furniture. haha.
Love your meal...some of my favorites. You can't beat picnic food! Yum.

  7. Hi Betsy - how lovely to see the big kids and have them spend some time with you ... special - that I can believe. The lemons and the calendar look great - and yes I think taking it into the garden and filling it with fresh goodies sounds ideal ... blackberry cobbler - sounds good too ... blackberries flourish later here ... but there are lots in the hedgerows. So glad Pepper is doing well ... enjoy the chasing snakes game ... cheers Hilary

    1. My blackberry bush was new last year, so I wasn't sure what to expect but it's looking happy and is full of berries! My blueberry bushes are a little slower but I guess they don't give you fruit for a couple of years. I had three berries on it. haha. I just left them for the birds.

  8. We tried the Swineapple recipe and it didn't do great. We even used thick bacon, but it still fell apart on the grill. I watched a video on how to assemble, but ours wasn't the same. Any suggestions for the bacon? So glad you had that visit with your kids...ours comes to us in one week!

    1. Well, I used the thick sliced bacon, too. It takes 2 slices per dog/pineapple spear. You stagger them to make them longer and have them overlap a bit....wrap really tightly. Did you watch the buzzfeed video? That would probably help. I did it just like that.

      He sure isn't a chore
      and is no longer sore.
Stole my heart, that's for sure
glad I could give him a cure. :)

    1. Isn't it? I like how big it is...perfect for gardening. And it's all bumped and
bruised, so I don't have to be careful with it.

  12. Love the yellow of the lemons against the white of the colander! So cheerful and bright!

I'm glad to read that Taylor and Lauren were able to be with you a few days over the holiday weekend! We were back to our daughter's for the weekend. Once a month could easily become a habit. haha

Great news to hear about Pepper! Who needs a vet when one has Nurse Betsy? ;)

Oh...yes, today (Wednesday) does seem like a Monday! :/

  13. I can't believe it is July either. And I missed most of March, and all of May. At least I was better enough to sit in the garden in June and now better enough to go back to work 2 hours at a time. But guess what? My doctor is sure my symptoms indicate cancer. So I am waiting for a hospital appointment for more tests. Lemons are so pretty aren't they? And smell so wonderful.

for the best diagnosis, treatment and beating it for good! Keep me posted. And here I thought it was
a stroke and that is all. BIG hugs. Hope you can get that appointment soon!

    2. That's really kind. Thank you. And in other news a gigantic spider got into the bath with me this morning. Aargh! I was all covered in soap but leapt out very quickly. The spider is no more but whose fault was that? And we have no water until 8pm as the water board is digging up the road right outside our house.

    3. That bath is the absolute worst place to find a spider. Yikes! I hate that!
