I bought The Mister a couple of framed prints at an auction
recently. We finally got them hung on the wall today
so I thought I'd show you!
The artist is Andy Thomas and they are some of the past
presidents playing poker. The top one is
The Grand Ol' Gang and the bottom one
is True Blues.
I think the thing I liked the best about them was that
it showed how relaxed they all were now that their terms
were over. haha. They are enjoying each other's company
and life goes on.... for everyone. The country is still holding
together and maybe that's a good reminder to all of us.
It might be a shock to some of you that I actually bought
the democratic print. haha. But I liked it, too!
After all, 4 of those democrats were my president some time
in my life,..... and 5 of the republicans.
I respect them all who held that office.
Most importantly, we're all Americans first, right?
The paintings are well done and I actually do like some of
those oldies but goodies!
I could name all 16 Presidents.
Can you?
♥
Absolutely fascinating ~ all great men in my opinion. They all had to be to great to hold that office and at sometime during their term in office I bet they all had to 'up the ante' in diplomatic circles.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pressie and how democratic of you to include the democrats as well.
Can't quite name them all but recognise most and I am a Brit . . lol
I'm guessing by your age that you recognize Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson. :)
DeleteRofl. . . .you cheeky monkey!!! . . I did know it was Abe but was never introduced to Andrew . . . . .lol
Deletelol....Well, Andrew is a bit older. :)
DeleteAs I remember it, things were never quite the same since George Washington . . . hahaha

:-)
YES!
Gotta love Truman's Hawaiian shirt!
I know...I laughed at that! Hard to see here on the computer, but there are lots of
Deleteinteresting details hidden in them!
I think I could name several of those myself.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone at least knows a couple....no matter where you're from!
DeleteI love those prints! I've seen the Republican one before, but not the Democrat. Yes, I can name them all. :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen a few before that I didn't care for...they were more caricatures than real life paintings. These were great...the colors, etc and I liked the framing. Very fun!
DeleteHi Betsy - loved the prints ... and they express much happiness ... wonderful - I'm glad you got one of each! I could probably name quite a few ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteIt just seemed right to have them both!
DeleteI'm sure politics drop away while one is poker-ing.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think you're right! :)
DeleteThey are really well done indeed
ReplyDeleteAnd sure all look relaxed at their feed
Life goes on each day
No matter who one is at their bay
Life goes on and on
Deleteuntil you're gone. lol.
Amazing paintings. Wow...I love them. Your comments about them are perfect...Republican or Democrat they were our presidents. Thankful to be an American. The Mister must love these. History on the walls and how fun for company to enjoy too.
ReplyDeleteHe did like them a lot....such a fun purchase!
DeleteBoth paintings are excellent; I had no problem recognizing any of the presidents.
ReplyDeleteAren't they cool? Love that they are easily recognizable!
DeleteWhat a terrific present!! And quite a good portraitist, as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd YES, I knew them all. All but four FROM. MY. LIFETIME. Pass the BenGay!
All but four? Oh, how fun!
DeleteUnsurprisingly no. I can't! Are you a poker fan? Or a politics fan?
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go back and test myself on their names. I'm sure Bruce could name them too. I llike the prints too....both parties this time. Great find!
ReplyDeleteWhat awesome prints. You show true respect...I wish more folks did.
ReplyDeleteI agree everyone looks relaxed except for Woodrow Wilson..he has such a stuffy demeanor.
PS We had fun with the Presidential Poker yesterday---I printed out five sets and passed them around with pens as we sat after dinner. It was fun to see the two fortyish girls AND the dear 91-year-old (a naturalized citizen who came from Germany in 1947) puzzling over the faces. And the fact that ONE of them is a far-back family ancestor . . .

When shopping for a painting recently at an art store I saw these and LOVED them. Although they won't go with my decor I make it a point to go and look at them every time I am at that store. How fun to find them at the auction. If I remember their were Dems in one and Reps in the other.
