Random Thoughts

  1. My spring cleaning job for the week was to clean/purge/organize the shelves in our family room.  Some things went to the thrift store, some to my etsy shop and everything got washed or dusted.   It had been a while since I removed everything from those shelves. The dust was like felt..well, maybe not that bad....but there was dust and cobwebs aplenty. haha.  Much better now and the fresh arrangement makes me happy.
  2. If you're my friend on Instagram, you know that a couple of weeks ago I bought 50 pounds of Georgia peaches from The Peach Truck! We've been enjoying them all kinds of ways for most of our meals! We've eaten them fresh, biting into them with juice running down our arms and I've made them into lots of sweet and savory dishes. Fresh peach salsa on fried catfish was our favorite and the peach ice cream I made today was pretty good, too!  Now there are a nice variety of things in jars and in the freezer to enjoy this winter. Very fun and worth all the work!  I have about a dozen left to finish off in the next few days!
  3. I got my veggie garden planted a couple of weeks ago!  It's just a little thing..just the right size to enjoy without it taking up all of my time.  Tomato, cherry tomato, zucchini, jalapeno, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, cucumber and bell peppers.  One plant of each does us just fine.  I also planted a few rows of rainbow carrots, radishes and sugar snap peas.  The blackberry and blueberry bushes are looking good for their second season and it looks like we'll be enjoying a pie or two, at least from the blackberry.  I've heard that the blueberries don't give you much for the first two years.  I think I see 4 blueberries in total. haha.  Hopefully next year!
What's been keeping you busy?
Hope you're having a good June so far!

  1. It always feels good to spring-clean, the results not the anticipation :)
I'm still trying to catch up from when I wasn't able to do much last year.
Nothing much going on around here, spending a few days with my granddaughter before she starts her nursing career next month.
I received my frog today, didn't expect it so soon....lovely too!

    1. I feel like I'm always trying to catch up! haha. Spring cleaning goes year round with 5 adults and a flock of cats! It does feel good to get some of it done, though
Sounds like you're enjoying your granddaughter....soon she will be very busy!
      Glad the frog arrived! :)

  2. I have had my Hoover Grands..just Margaret and Elliott as Baylor stayed home with mom. Katy reported that Baylor was really enjoying his vacay from the siblings. The iPad was his alone.:) When they leave tomorrow I will have to do a good cleaning. I had forgotten how messy youngsters can be!!

    1. I've enjoyed seeing your grands on IG! It looks like you've had a wonderful time! Baylor reminds me of my Alex. On a very rare occasion that he is home without his brothers, he is thrilled to have control of all the electronics in the house. haha.

  3. Yay for your garden! My peach tree is loaded. I was concerned that the late freeze we got would affect them, but they survived. I hope to plant some blueberries next year. My yard and garden is keeping me very busy this year. A lot of work, but I love it. Can't wait to see some pictures of your garden.

    1. It's always hard when you plant certain things that don't give you produce for the first few years! Hopefully next year we'll get blueberries! Asparagus is like that....a labor of love and patience for sure. I guess that's why I've never planted it. haha.

  4. I have been ill for a while now, off work for 12 weeks and it has been really instructive. I discover that the Chef does nothing all day but read the paper and write emails. So the poor house is filthy, covered in dust and really untidy. So now I'm a lot better I got a guy in to quote for new blinds ( they'll be fitted on Monday) , arranged for tree surgeon to come and look at the purple plum which I think needs a good prune, bought a small sideboard for the bathroom because there was nowhere to put anything - much tidier now and with extra space for some of my travelling bags which fold up small, cleaned all the silver and the plate and put most of it away in a case so it's not cluttering up the kitchen drawers, I'm working my was through the cleaning the bathroom while is very dusty. And I have a project to swap the dining room with the sitting room. Plus I need to rest a lot so it's so going.

    1. I'm so sorry you aren't completely healthy yet! I'm sure it's seemed like a long recovery! At least you're finding a silver lining in getting to putter around the house as you feel well enough and get a few things done that wouldn't get done if you were at work every day! Love little projects like that!

  5. As always, you're a gal on the go! I love peaches but our season isn't until August... same with blueberries. All of your recipes sounded just... peachy!
What's been keeping me busy? Healing, I guess. I am longing to be able to clean and move/arrange my things and create a semblance of order. Who knew I would miss the mundane chores, but I do.
I've great friends who drop by and a couple days ago one of my girlfriends cleaned my living room windows and sliding door. Such a great help. I feel like a big lump. Who knew I would be craving housework!?!

  9. Hi Betsy - love coming on and seeing what you're up to - often accompanied by one of Pat's verses. Those peaches sound delicious ... out strawberries are at the beginning of a full season - Wimbledon will be full of them. I'd love to have a peach tree or a tray of them ... it looks clean and well organised - love the way you swing the changes - out of the auction, washed, displayed, into the etsy shop ... and then new ones bought! Enjoy all that lovely garden produce ... cheers Hilary

  10. You have been a busy lady. :) ,My spring cleaning list is windling down. I am finishing up the bathroom today and I am finished with the exception of painting the mudroom and the pantry. They can wait until next month because company is arriving next week!

You have made me hungry for peaches now. haha It will be a while before we have peaches ready around here. I was tempted to buy some at Kroger earlier in the week, but they just didn't smell like peaches so I didn't bother.

Your vegetable garden sounds so nice, Betsy. My hubby has been having a constant fight with critters that want to enjoy things a bit early. He always plants enough so that I can either can or freeze for the winter, as well as enough for us to eat through the summer months.

    Have a lovely weekend!

    1. I suppose my spring cleaning will continue on for many weeks now. Maybe it's because I only get around to accomplishing one or two things a week! By the time I'm done, it will be time to start the cycle again!

  12. Wow, can you come over and do some spring cleaning here too?
I sure have a couple of drawers that need attention.
I'm probably not going to tackle them today since the temps are going to be over 100F.
Slow and easy is the mantra of the day.
Peaches...oh yumm. Love that flavor of summer.

    1. No, I can't. hahaha....and if you only have a couple of drawers, I'd say you're
in great shape. Hot days are perfect for that...staying inside and doing something
like cleaning out drawers! :) Unless you don't have A/C....surely you do, though.
At least I hope so for your sake!

I have been working on sorting out some photos from a relative ( the photos are going to 7 people..so its taking some time to sort thru them all. )

    Have a great week!

  14. I love fresh peaches....were they cling or freestone? When we live up North for 27 years, we were in peach, apricot and all kinds of rural goodies. I so miss that.

    1. They were supposed to be free stone but they said the warm winter made them cling! I didn't can any since they weren't free stone. Maybe next year.
