The Biggest Dome Ever

I had a fun day at the auction today!
Lots of new things for my etsy shop!
And of course, it wouldn't be right if I didn't find something
for myself, right?  I had my eye on this huge display dome.
Thankfully, I outlasted the other bidders and got to
bring it home.  It's all washed up and sitting here for now,
covering my ironstone punch bowl and carpet balls.
I might dig through my drawer of antique finials and see
if I have one that would give it the finishing touch.

  1. How many naughty cats could you get under that?

    1. Two large ones or 5 kittens. haha. But I better not ever catch a cat under there!

  2. Oh, that looks amazing, Betsy! Yes, a finial would be the crowning touch. But looks great, as is, too. What great fun you could have at Christmas with it. All kinds of ornaments tucked under. Or a single nativity scene. Fun!

  3. That's a big dome. I'd be afraid of our cats knocking it off and breaking it.

    1. Uh oh! haha. Our cats don't seem to bother any of my pretty things. Maybe they just get all of that rough housing out of their systems while they are outside. Now, I hope I haven't jinxed the thing! haha.

    1. I'm guessing it covered a taxidermy at some point, although it hasn't been used for anything for a long time. The outside had a quarter inch of dirt on it and the inside was full of cobwebs. Ick.

  7. What a huge and lovely dome. I only have one small one that I put the last of the banana bread under. Will have to check the Thrift Stores for domes.

  10. Hi Betsy - oh yes, a finial would give it a crisp final touch ... and then no touching of the clean glass. I've always enjoyed finials since finding out they were used on washing lines in some of the 18th century housing trust estates!! and were crafted items ... cheers and looking forward to seeing the result - Hilary

  11. Yes, that is a huge dome. And very nice too! You asked where did March go? ... indeed ... Steve said to me this morning in the car 'Mom you were not born in the 80th just yet right? ... and I said 'yes I was' ... and he went 'omg Mom youalready lived in the 80th with the weird clothes and the weird hairstyles?' .... 'cool' .... lol ... that did put 'where did March go?' into perspective... haha ... :-) happy weekend Betsy!
