Candle Light

As I was doing some Christmas shopping last year, I kept
seeing wonderful smelling candles that I wanted!
But I didn't buy any.  Why?  Because I have about 10 candles
already that I never use!  I made a note to myself to use and
enjoy the ones that I have...then I can enjoy getting a new one!
I've been burning this candle every day for about a week now as
I'm working in my studio.  It's been so nice!
Do you hoard candles that you love, refusing to burn them
because then they will be gone? haha.  They will just fade and
gather dust.  Why don't you join me in using them up.....
either to declutter your home or make room for new ones!

  1. My friend gave me a three wick candle (I love because the burn now evenly) in Warm Vanilla Sugar. I don't want it end..so I usually light it sparingly. But because of you..... I will keep it burning, and then find the joy of buying a new one. Good advice. I do love candles.

  2. I love candles too but some are so strong that It activates my cough. I do use them sparingly....I accept the challenge to use mine up instead of hoarding them...(:0)

    1. Some of them give me a headache! I have to choose them carefully! If they are too strong, I say give them away! Use only ones that you truly love.

  3. I switched from candles to using essential oils in our diffusers. I have one in the bedroom and one in the living room. I really like using the essential oils, but they don't give off the same ambiance. I do keep some candles on hand in case of loss of power...so this is what I am going to do. They are small ones, so I am going to use those up, one by one. And then I can replace them one by one with bigger ones! :)

    1. We have our diffuser in our bedroom. I think of it and candles as totally different things. Candles for ambiance and fragrance and diffusers for health/wellness. And yes...candles for when the power goes out! haha....forgot that one!

  6. We have zero candles. It was a candle in a kid's room that burned our house down!

    1. Uh oh! Yep, they have to be supervised, that is for sure! I don't leave one in a room unattended or down where a cat can get it.

  7. I love the Volcano candles at Anthropologie. They smell divine. A candle really does make a room cozier.

  8. I used to be like you but for a few years I am totally getting rid of stuff ... I either reuse the old before purchasing new or if I cannot use the old I give it away or throw it (depends on what it is ofcourse ...) I had a candle that a friend offered me ones and I was not burning it because it was so beautiful so I used to put the tea candle inside as to save it ... the candle lost all her rainbow colours with time and I still a hard time to throw it ... but it is gone now!! :-) so I know how yo feel. But I find that when we do not overcrowd our space with stuff there is suh a better energy don't you find?

    1. Oh, yes...I totally agree! I come from a long line of hoarders and savers and "it's too pretty to use". But simple is best all the way around! I'm the only one that feels that way in our house, though, so it's an ongoing process to purge, organize and keep things orderly! haha.

  10. I adore candles and used to burn them all the time.
I even had a couple candle parties but gradually any scented ones made me ill or gave me headaches. Beeswax were okay.
I miss the ambiance so I think I will purchase some unscented ones.

    1. Many times unscented is best and I prefer those for a long burning time. I can relate to the headaches! I've had to give away a few candles like that...just too strong for my liking.

I love the idea of a candle party...how fun is that!

    2. Used to have them through an organization called Partylite. We had great fun. Kind of like Tupperware parties but with candles, candle holders, snuffers, etc. They have beautiful things. Hadn't seen a catalogue in years but just looked at their site online and there are some beautiful things.

  11. Hi Betsy - I don't tend to use them ... but buy them for god-children ... and they are lovely - I do have some from southern Africa with some art work ... but won't burn those! Great idea to use yours up before too much sun comes around ... cheers Hilary

  13. I used to save them. Circumstances, including downsizing and moving, have made me use them. And I love it. Go for it, Betsy. The glow is beautiful!

    1. I totally agree. Nothing like downsizing and purging to bring everything into perspective. Why not use them....that's what they're for!

  14. I don't have a single one
So can't go on a burning run
For if I ever put one up here
It would get knocked over by a certain rhyming rear

    1. Have to put mine on a shelf
that can't be reached by even an elf.
Orlin would knock it over and chomp down with glee
for he would eat even wax, you see.

  15. I finally got my brother's things from my sister in law. Had to throw most everything away because she let it all get so wet but I did get a pair of antique silver candlesticks. So maybe I will start using them.
