  4. My Grandma used the same expression about "holding water." I always thought it meant the crescent part was like the edge of a bowl holding water.
    But when I looked it up I read that it can mean that something is impossible, because the moon has Swiss cheese holes so can't hold water.
    Either way... I love the expression and it brought back nice memories of my Grandma.
