I finally have the guest room finished!
Nothing like the big kids coming home for a
weekend visit to get me to tie up the loose ends!
Until earlier this summer I had been using this room
as you would an attic....for storage of extra furniture,
items waiting to be sold in my shop, auction finds
and unfinished projects.
Since this room might get torn up and partially used
to enlarge a bathroom next summer, I didn't want to put
a lot of expense into it. I just refreshed the paint that
was already on the walls, used Taylor's old bed and
used quite a lot of things around the house to finish it.
I made the chair cushion and headboard fabric from
an old comforter. I made the peg board from an old piece of
wood and glass insulators. I painted the guest house
sign on an old piece of wood. The little white lamps
were from my bedroom when I was growing up.
The big metal basket is to hold the extra bed
pillows when the bed is unmade.
All of the artwork I already had.
The metal cart in the closet holds extra blankets and
some little extras like bottled water, tissues, etc.
I found the little luggage rack in the auction trash and
changed out the straps to match the decor. The bedding,
end tables, mattress, throw, fan, decorative pillows
and dresser I got online. (overstock, etsy, ebay and amazon).
It's a soft, relaxed feel that doesn't look too new, which
was what I was going for.
The big kids are on their way...getting here late tonight!
I'm going to take a little blog break while they are here!
Hope you all have a good weekend!
♥
Very nice. So this is where I'll be staying when I come over?
ReplyDeleteYes, it would be! :)
DeleteLooks wonderful! You've outdone yourself! I know T&L will love it.
ReplyDeleteDon! I whacked my finger with a hammer putting that insulator shelf up today!
DeleteAck...not good for the manicure. One purple finger nail. haha.
It looks so cozy and inviting, love all of the decorations, I'm sure your guests will feel right at home.
ReplyDeleteJo
Well, I hope so! Looking forward to them being here, that's for sure!
DeleteIt looks so inviting and comfortable! And you are ingenious in how you use those insulators!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that cool? I saw the idea on Pinterest.
DeleteBetsy, I love how you have taken what you have and did what you needed to do to make it work for you. This is my type of decorating. Your room looks so warm and cozy. I may borrow your idea of the metal tray in the closet to hold things for the guests. That was a great idea for bottled water, extra blankets and stuff. Your talent shines through it all.
DeleteOh, absolutely! Please do! :)
DeleteLovely room, Betsy. I would feel very welcomed. I love how you prepared the closet for them. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a few more ideas....we'll tweak it as we go. :)
DeleteWowie...what a gorgeous room. You are so clever and talented. I love your color scheme and the doors are so lovely. That's my kind of room.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your kids and we'll see you when things calm down.
I like how soft it is. :) Should be a fun weekend!
DeleteI love it, Betsy! You did good! It looks warm and inviting. The tray in the closet is a great idea. I'm on the lookout for one of those ladders. I'll use it in the den to hang quilts on.
ReplyDeleteOh, nearly forgot.....enjoy your visit with the big kids!
DeleteThose ladders show up at the auctions quite often! Sometimes they are so long (they are apple picking ladders) you can cut them into several!
DeleteHi Betsy - you are certainly resourceful ... and it looks lovely - the big kids will be happy to be home with you all. Enjoy the weekend - I'm sure it'll be hugely fun ... with lots of laughter and happiness ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hilary! Looking forward to it!
DeleteYou've made it so beautiful for them ~ gosh, what a talent you have for design, creativity and taste . . . trouble is you have nade it so good thet you won't see much of them over the weekend ~ they will want to stay in their room . . . lol
ReplyDeleteHave a great and happy time . . . :)
Did you see Keith's trying to steal it? haha.
Deletelol . . . well I know it's mine really, wnenever I want it . . and you felt you had to hunour him . . . :) haha
DeleteThis is just so cozy looking! They'll enjoy using this room. What a thrill to have T & L as guests now, it will seem different having them stay over at night now! Have fun celebrating birthdays and loving on your family.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to do...and much more pleasant to look at than when it was the storage room. haha.
DeleteI love it Betsy..I have thought of painting my closet doors black as well. I have done it on some interior doors. And I like your hint of shopping your home as well as Overstock. I am on the prowl for lots of things like that in our little house. Have fun with your big boy!!
ReplyDeleteShopping your own home is the best....I do that a lot. haha. Put something in a different place and it feels like new!
DeleteVery nice. Nothing like having house guests to get one motivated :-)
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth!? :)
DeleteYou did a great job on the room. Love all the details that make is so comfortable. I get so excited when DS, his wife, and especially the grand now visit so I know how you feel. Have a great time and enjoy every minute.
ReplyDeleteWell, when they throw some grands in the picture, that will just be too much! haha.
DeleteThe room looks great. Have fun with the big kids!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Silver...having a good time!
DeleteThat looks great indeed
ReplyDeleteLike the guest house sign that took seed
Enjoy the big kids as they come to play
Blog break? Isn't that what you do weekends anyway? lol
Many times lately I have!
DeleteDid you miss me, just a tad?
Oh Betsy..it's perfectly beautiful and inviting. Such a sweet relaxed look. And so YOU! Sure love how it all came together. No doubt you'll enjoy sweet time with your kids!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marsha....having a good time, yes. ;)
DeleteI love how you furnished the closet. Our guest room is very small and this idea will be perfect {as soon as I find a place for my dresses}
ReplyDeleteHave a great visit! I love the color choices and the headboard is an idea I am so gonna steal- very neat!
ReplyDeleteAre you taking reservations??
ReplyDeleteThat is so lovely, and reminds me of Sue's guest room in Rocklin that we to enjoy. She always had a little basket of goodies on the bed... I know it will be a favorite room for those who have the joy of visiting you and staying there. Love everything about it.
It all looks lovely. When can I come? ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great time with your guests. They'll be very comfortable, for sure.
Wow, I love it! The mix of fabrics is so inviting. Love the headboard. :)
ReplyDeleteAnybody staying here would feel so loved and pampered. I love all your touches to make it a sweet place to stay for night. Wow..you even have the luggage holder. That is important so people have a place for that, how do you get your stuff out of your suitcase if it's sitting on the floor? With much discomfort..at least for me:)
ReplyDeleteYou have thought of everything, good job Betsy, you pass with flying colors!!
its beautiful and so many touches only you could have thought of,, have a wonderful visit!!!
ReplyDeleteI am on the next plane!
ReplyDeleteLovely, soft, inviting... romantic.
They will love it!
Have fun with the Big Kids! xox
