I Just Wanna Break The Rules

I got dressed for church this morning and it wasn't 2 seconds
after I zipped up my dress that I thought, "Oh, crap.  White
dress?  It's after Labor Day."  Cue Charli XCX and Break the Rules...
haha...  Yeah, really...who gives a flip?  I didn't have time to
change my clothes anyway. lol.

A little Google search this afternoon tells me that this rule
is passe!   It's perfectly fine to wear white through the warm
fall days and you can rock winter white wools all winter long!

Come to think of it, I break a lot of those rules that used to be
so important.  Things like mixing yellow gold and sterling silver,
non matching manicure and pedicure colors, florals with checks
and way too many bracelets at once.
My purse doesn't usually match my shoes!
And my 'go to' look is jeans with heels.
~gasp~

  1. I don't know what Labour day is, so I don't know the rules. You look lovely in a white dress, I'm glad you didn't change it. What colour should you wear for Labour day anyway? I'm intrigued. . . .

    1. Labor Day is the last holiday of summer. It's not what you wear ON the day, but it signifies that fall has started and for many years the rule was that you shouldn't wear white when summer is over. It's a fashion rule just like you shouldn't wear a striped tie with a plaid shirt. (or didn't you know that?) haha.

    2. I know that rule, what gentleman of my stature and reputation doesn't?
I Always wear a patterned tie with a plain shirt, or a plain tie with a plaid shirt. . .ha!.

(But I can wear a patterned cravat with a plaid shirt)

  2. Isn't it funny how we sometimes let "rules" get in our way of enjoyment! I, too, thought of that rule this morning while picking my outfit for church, but then threw caution to the wind and put on my white sandals anyway!

  3. I don't heed any fashion rules whatsoever... life's too short. Wish I could still wear heels. Sigh. :-)

  8. It still feels like summer here, so I think white is still appropriate. However, after Labor Day I like to start getting out the lightweight darker color clothes that don't feel right in the summer. Such fun to have different things in the closet!

    1. The rule is that you don't wear white after Labor Day because it's too summery.
And thank you, Ed. You're such a charmer. :)

  12. I remember once wearing white heels with a dress once and being scolded for wearing white after Labor Day. I didn't care since I've always been a rule breaker.

  13. You look great. I wore a pair of white pants the other day and was wondering if anyone cared about those rules anymore. The good Lord is happy to have you no matter the season/dress.

  14. Hi Betsy - I didn't know that 'rule' - but you look stunning ... so absolutely no worries! I just wear relaxed and as tidy and appropriate as I can - I too hate following rules ... cheers Hilary

  15. Who makes these rules anyway?! I always believed we should wear what 'resonates' with us ... The same goes for colours ... my son used to like purple when he was very little, hubby would say 'purple is for girls' and I always shooshed him away saying 'if S feels comfortable with purple right now, let him be' ... colours are healing and I do dress in colours according to my mood .... And now S does not want purple anymore .... maybe external pressure at school maybe he just overgrown out of it ... So I say as long we don't hurt others with what we wear it is totally fine :-) and you look gorgeous in white with your bracelets!! :-)

    1. The fashion police do! haha. It was an absolute no-no years ago. And you didn't wear white before Easter! haha.
My Spencer had a little purple turtle neck sweater when he was little. :) And I remember when Taylor wouldn't wear purple anymore because it was a "girl color". But I think if he wanted to wear purple now, he would. Oh, the pressures of school! lol.

  16. From what I see present day fashion has no rules. I get chuckle from people who buy jeans with rips in them. :)

  20. Here in the sunny south it is hot until November so we wear white all year.

  21. I love your rule breaking streak. I especially think jeans and high heels are cool!! Wish I could wear higher ones... but feel safer in wedges. Love all your fashion statements. You are a rebel with a cause...haha
