Treats From Belgium

My online friend Jitka sent me some fun treats!
We were talking about lavender back when I picked bouquets
of it in my yard and hung them to dry in my studio.
She sent me edible lavender for making tea and a
lavender milk chocolate bar!

The chocolate got a little soft somewhere along it's journey.
It is summer after all!  But not too bad and it was nice and solid
again by the time it got to Ohio.  I must say that this is delicious!
We all know how lavender is good for relaxing and I actually did
feel that as I ate it.  I'm trying to ration out the little squares.
haha....have a few more to go before it's all gone!

I made tea with the edible buds.  The smell was wonderful!
My first cup was a little too strong but I got it right after that.
It is a great thing to drink before bedtime!
You get carried off to sweet dreamland!
And I'm thinking it could be steeped in milk and used to
make ice cream.  Wouldn't that be delicious?
I'll have to put that on my To Do List.  Yum!

Thank you so much, Jitka!
This was a fun treat!  You'll have to tell me something
from America that you would like to try.
I saved your address!

  2. Lovely treat! I had never heard of lavender chocolate. I will be on the lookout.
I have several varieties of lavender essential oils which I use in many different ways. Sometimes to refresh sachets, sometimes on a damp cloth over my face, sometimes on my sheets and sometimes to just sniff from the bottle. Mmmmm... so relaxing. The tea sounds wonderful... it might help me sleep.

  3. How nice of her!! Lavender is wonderful and can be used in many different ways. Have you ever heard of essential oils? They are very beneficial. You mentioned drinking Lavender before bedtime... I diffuse it every night while I'm sleeping. It helps me relax and has improved my sleep quality immensely!

    1. I have heard of them but don't use any! I know they make Baby Bath Time Wash with lavender in it to help babies relax and sleep better. Makes perfect sense!

    2. I would be bit reluctant with these products as usually they put artificial smells in it and definitely not good for babies and anyone. I think it is always the best to add your own essential oils ... of course even there one has to be careful and to chose a high and pure quality of the oil! It may not be the cheapest but it lasts quite some time ... we live in a profitable society and one needs to be careful about what to put in or on oneself :-) (sorry for this 'add' but I am being very careful about these stuff :-)

  6. Yay! I am happy you did enjoy Betsy! And I am not suprised with the melted chocolate as the post took ages to get it to you. Will have to ship you one during the freezing months, hopefully it will have a better consistency! I also use lavender essential oils in the diffuser (have you got one? I am so happy with mine! Got it on amazon, you just fill it with bit of water you add essential oil of your choice and you let your room to fill with wonderful smells - lavender, tangerine or verveine to relax and to promote better sleep and so on .... And it is safe, no more tea candle burning and putting your house on fire! There are many oils to help bit with the hormones (hot flashes) ... And that ice cream sounds just delicious already!!! What a brilliant idea - lavender ice cream, that will be a hit!! :-)

    1. I don't have a diffuser and I haven't tried any essential oils! Although, they are all the rage over here! Maybe I need to investigate those a bit more! No tea candles here...too many kitties. haha.

  7. Hi Betsy - looks delicious ... lavender is featuring quite a lot in recipes in the last 40 years or so ... I had shortbread with lavender in when I was out in South Africa in the early 80s ... that'd be worth trying. Wonderful to have such a great prezzie from Belgium ... exciting to have and then to try - cheers Hilary

  8. Yes I am! After all only our nephew will come and I guess a 13 y/o won't really care that much about looks but rather about if there is enough food :-) so going to mow that garden now (they need that loan to play the football) and then off to the stove ... (not my fav thing though ... haha). Hope you feel all well again Betsy!

  9. Young Living essential oils are the only oils I use.(www.youngliving.org) They sent me a book as well as a pdf toxicity document informing me what I could and could not use due to my history of epilepsy and now after brain surgery. If there were any doubt in my mind I wouldn't be using them, especially after 40 years of seizures and a 4 1/2 hr. surgery. Let me know if you have any questions.

    2. Lavender. It's very versatile and can be used with any other oils. It works wonders. I also used it with Peppermint & Lemon much earlier in the Spring for my allergies - I put drops of all 3 in a clear vegetable capsule and took it internally until I had to start taking my Allegra every day. I've used Lemongrass for my shin splints, Thieves for a sore throat, and Peppermint for an upset stomach.

  12. It is a fun gift. We try to get free pie once in a while at Bakers square. We usually split a piece there and bring the other free piece. The French Silk does like to melt before we get home. In the winter that won't be a problem.
