Random Thoughts

cell phone pic
Me this afternoon, feet up, watching NASCAR
and browsing the blogs.

  1. We're still in the hot sauna weather here in Ohio.  We had two mornings that were cool but then reality came back with typical August weather.  I have seen some beautiful brilliantly white and puffy clouds lately, though, which remind me of September skies!
  2. See that little ladybug sticker on my laptop at the top?  It's covering the camera lens for video chatting.  I read somewhere that you should cover it when not in use to prevent any weird hackers from spying on you.  Of course, if they were spying first thing in the morning, I would think that my bedhead and no makeup face would be enough to deter any further spying. haha.
  3. I'm taking a trip to Utah in a little over a week!  I'm going to stay with my niece while her husband is in Europe.  She'll be 8 months pregnant and has a baby who turns one next week!  She needs me! And actually, I need her.  Can't wait for a trip away, some girl time, and to help her stay sane for a few days.  I got a good flight with just one change in Chicago.  Hope I can navigate my way through O'Hare and get there alright! haha.  Very exciting!
  4. I have a couple dozen tomatoes on the kitchen counter.  I'm looking forward to getting them into the freezer this week.  I didn't put anything in the freezer last summer so it's been good to plan ahead and do that!  I wish I had more zucchini, though.  My plant seems to be fizzling already!
  5. I'm back to working on making a guest room here!  I took a month off while I had all those crazy health issues going on.  I got one of those bed-in-a-box mattresses.  I had my doubts but we were amazed at how it inflates itself!  It's beautiful, great quality and just as supportive as our expensive pillow top set.  Buying a comforter wasn't so lucky, though.  I felt like Murphy's Law, or "Murph" as we call him around here, was messing with my plan! It's a story that's probably long enough to be its own post, so maybe I'll do that eventually.  Murph is usually joined to The Mister's hip and doesn't bother me, so I was joking last night that it was as if The Mister was buying the bed linens! haha.  To be continued....

    1. Oh, I know! I'm really looking forward to it! And how are you doing? Bet you're still adjusting to
      Claire being gone!

    2. It's a bit of an adjustment, that's for sure! She is coming home this weekend, can't wait to hug her neck!

  2. Glad to hear about your trip! We just got back Friday. Good Lord, I came back to a jungle. Grass was knee high, garden needs weeding so badly and canteloupe and volunteer watermelon vines from the compost bin have taken over. There's even a canteloupe vine climbing up the screen on one of my bedroom windows. It's so stinking hot here. I'm ready for fall, no scratch that...fall is hot too. I'm ready for full blown winter.

Hope your layover in Chicago gives you plenty of time to find your gate without rushing.

I never knew hackers could see through the camera on your computer. Yikes!!!

    1. Well, you know I love winter. Give me snow any time! haha. But I do love fall. I hope we have a long, beautiful cool one where the leaves turn color and stay on the trees a long time. That would be wonderful!

Not sure how long I have between flights. I hope I'm not running full blast to get there. lol. Better where comfy shoes just in case!

I can't believe your rogue vines! You're going to have melons hanging from your eaves! hahaha....

    2. Lol! Melons from the eaves....somehow that reminds me of that movie "Practical Magic"....weird, I know.

BTW, they're doing things a little differently when you go through security. We didn't have to take our shoes off and we didn't have to remove our computer or phones and place them in the bins. Makes it a little quicker. And a word of caution, don't use your credit card to buy snacks on the plane. Last time we did that our credit card number was stolen. And they won't take cash. They'll give free peanuts or pretzels, water, juice, coffee or sodas....Unless you're flying first class, of course. And then everything is free, including wine. If not and you need more substantial food, you may be better off to buy it from the airport and take it with you on the plane. I kid you not, someone brought fried chicken on the plane....smelling it was pure torture. HaHa! I just wanted a leg. Oh, and take a set of ear phones. Some flights have free movies and tv shows.

    3. Good stuff to know. It would be great to have time to eat lunch between flights. I'm not a big eater during the day though so I could manage with a snack in my purse I suppose. But fried chicken on a plane...I'm sure everyone was tortured! haha. Even if you weren't hungry before, you would be then!

No phones, shoes or computers out? That's amazing! And I'm assuming you didn't get chosen for a full body scan??? lol.....

    4. Not this time, but I have before. And of all things, I left my sunglasses on my head and when they saw them on the x-ray they went into excited mode. HaHa! I thought I was going to get frisked.

    5. I always hook my sunglasses on the front of my shirt. They would probably think it was part of a bomb vest. ha.

Guest room sounds like it's slow going
Guess Murphy wants to keep it from showing.

  10. Hi Betsy! I read about those hackers as well ... covering mine as well. Even though my first thought was the same as yours 'anyone trying to spy on me at certain times may be actually a punishment for them doing so ... haha!
How exciting you go on a trip!!! Wishing you a wonderful girl/baby time :-)!!
We had an exhausting heat here as well, such a high temperatures at night, I hate (and I use that words with caution) when I cannot sleep at night ... the only thing that got me through was the hopeful idea that we may get a bit of cold winter and maybe even some snow as it usually happens here. If the summer gets hot we get a nice winter (fingers crossed!!) :-)

    1. It is like a sauna outside. I refuse to go out in it today. haha. I'm happily inside with the air conditioner today. Fall will be here eventually! Can't wait.

And I heard that we are to have a very bad winter. But 'bad' means very cold and snowy, so I say that is 'good'. haha.

  12. Hi Betsy - made me look where Ohio was and then Utah - taught me some American?!?! I thought I had some idea - obviously not ... but enjoy the trip - sounds like a great change ...

Good luck with more veggie and that freezer for sauces; getting the spare room finished off ... then holiday time - with one tiny and one on the way ... wonderful to look forward to - happy times ... cheers Hilary

  13. Have a safe, fun flight. If you hear a loud "THUMP" or bang when you take off, it is just the landing gear retracting.

  14. Have a fun trip!! You will enjoy those little ones and I am sure your niece will adore having you there. I love your lady bug...any hacker that sees me first thing in the morning would run screaming from the computer.:)

  17. Not so warm here, although today is better than of late and nice gardening weather.
Good idea to cover the webcams although I have on my desktop upstairs but not on this one, my laptop. I don't need a bedhead to frighten people away . . haha
Great that you are visiting your niece and so lovely that there will be a little one there for you to cuddle. Enjoy your girl talk.
    Love tomatoes and had two tonight . . . lol . . that's not all I had . . . although I am on a diet.
