Random Thoughts

  1. After several weeks of dry, very hot weather, it is raining! And raining.  And raining. The ground is so saturated, we're getting our side yard 'lake'.  I can still remember Taylor as a little boy asking to go play in the 'lake' when this happened.  One time we had ducks land in it for an afternoon swim!
  2. I'm wearing new contacts!  Yay!  I could tell I needed new ones as the old ones just were not comfortable and my eyesight had changed so much that I couldn't read things on my phone anymore. I got new glasses, too, for when I feel like rocking the librarian look. :)
  3. I've had the weirdest few weeks lately regarding my health.  I had a sore throat and fever 4 weeks ago.  3 weeks ago I had a mild gallbladder attack...first ever.  Saw the doctor on the third day, had an ultrasound, blood work, and was sent to consult with a surgeon. Since I was feeling better, she recommended surgery but when I wanted to do it since it wasn't an emergency.  I have a trip coming up and wanted to feel better before then so I opted to have it done immediately.  But the surgeon's scheduler never called and I continued to feel fine.  So I'm taking it as a sign that one mild attack doesn't mean surgery and am postponing it for now.  I've researched how to prevent further attacks and am taking some supplements for that, like Taurine and Milk Thistle.  Then 2 weeks ago I twisted my ankle! Although I didn't limp, it was purple and swollen. It's almost back to normal now.  Lots of ice and elevating it seems to have worked. And if all that wasn't enough, my age is catching up with me and the first hot flashes have arrived.  WTH?!? These can go away right now and never come back, I'm telling you! haha. There are supplements for these, too, that I'm trying, although without any change so far, like Black Cohosh, Vitamin E and St. John's Wart.  Really need to find that fountain of youth now...
  4. All I have to say about supplements, is...who nams these things? ha.
  5. Really enjoying the Olympics! :)  Staying up a little late each night just to see a bit more.
  6. The gray weather has made it very cozy inside.  And with the heat and humidity, the A/C feels especially nice.  I've had rotating cats snoozing on my lap.  Jack was especially cute stretching out his leg in a hug around my waist so I had to snap the picture above.
  7. OK...enough chatting from me.  Back to photos and very limited commentary tomorrow. :)
What's going on with you?

  1. Betsy! So sorry to hear that you have been unwell with so many things one after the other! I guess you have had enough for one year ahead!! At least!! I hear that hormonal yoga is great for the hormones, thus the menopause ... but I have no idea ... maybe worth googling it ... I am all with you to avoid surgery as much as you can or forever if you can!!!! And I would agree that one episode does not mean surgery!!! What's up with me? Just got back home after 14 hours drive, I am still high on the adrenaline so typing :-) ... I have two days to get the house clean and tidy (after one months of absence) take care of all the plants (one months absence some of them look really 'sad' oh dear), to mow the garden (grass seems to have half a meter of hight - heeelp) and wash the laundry for the whole family (one months collection ... lol ... And all of this in two days as we will have a family coming and staying with us from Wednesday for one week ... I think I better not to sleep and start right now ... haha. Happy days and no more accidents!!!!

    1. Oh, that sounds awful. Mine was nothing like that...mild pain and pressure under my ribs. And then it went away and I feel absolutely fine. But the surgeon warned me that the next attack could result in emergency surgery. Bleh. lol. Sorry about your ER visits at the lake...aw...poor you. I know all about stress from siblings and parents....how do we stay sane? haha.

Gallstones are not nice . .
Yes, I too am enjoying the Olympics, and they are very addictive.

  5. I SO agree with you on the hot flashes! I've had issues off and on for about three years. Right now they're "on" and it's miserable.

    1. Three years? How long do these things last? ugh. I've read a lot about how well progesterone cream
works. That's my next thing to try.

  6. Your posts lately have had minimal text so I kind of figured that something was up with you. Had no idea you were suffering so many health issues. I can relate to the eyesight issues, the hot flashes... not so much. :) Hope that is the end of the health issues for the near future

    1. haha...you're so observant. :) I've been incredibly busy, too, on top of all of that! My little etsy shop is going crazy this summer! haha. If I'm not at an auction, I'm packaging sales. A good problem to have, though.

  8. I hear ya, sista. I have had hot flashes on and off for over six years. Some not really bothersome at all. Others are like a complete meltdown. Lately it has been the meltdown type.
Going through a similar experience now with several health issues resulting in two operations in the next few months. Not looking forward to them at all... but if they fix what ails me then that's what counts. As they say... I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Can't wait to get back to my old self.
Hope you feel better very soon. I have had two friends experience mild gallbladder attacks and then very major ones so do be careful.
I love that you have lots of kitty love. They are the best healers!

  9. Hi Betsy - it sounds as though you're being practical with your health and doing what is best for you ... it's better we're aware, rather than ignore health challenges - and yes 'aging' is just one of those things we need to deal with. It's the uncertainty I get anxious about - if I know what's likely to happen - then I can cope ... but take care is the most important thing ... all the very best: Love the photo of Jack though! -cheers Hilary

  10. So sorry to hear about your health issues, I suppose it's all part of the rich pageant of life that we get the bad with the good! My doc has prescribed a super drug for me, it really works removing the swelling and pain of arthritis. The down side is that it is only effective for 24 hrs approx, and I must only take it when the pain is unbearable; to take it regularly would damage the internal machinery!

Anyway as we say in the Motherland, "Keep your chin up, old bean and don't let the buggers grind you down. Pip, pip!" Yes I know, we are completely bonkers this side of the pond.

    1. And I didn't even mention my arthritis, did I? That would have just made the post longer. haha....
One good thing...while at the doctor I got a prescription for my migraines which has been wonderful!
At least there's relief for some things! haha.

    Today at your bay
Wow, you're really falling apart at your sea
Gallbladder crap sure isn't fun to come to be
Are flushes and stuff one can do
Some did them and gave the surgery a big fu
    Worked I guess
Supplements are good more or less
Depends on the ones I suppose
And if one's body has woes
Maybe you can go relax in the lake
And the fountain of youth you can make

    1. Apple Cider Vinegar is supposed to cure all.
Made me feel better when the pain came to call.
Someone just told me to take a sip every day
and it probably will forever keep the pain away.
I relaxed in the bath today.
More private than the lake way.
Especially since it's near Mr. Neighborman's window
and we all know how he'd love a skinny dip crescendo.
      hahahahaha...

  12. Oh the lovely hot flashes. I actually went on Premarin for a while because mine were So Bad!! Then they went away for a while and I went on the meds and now they are back. I think the hot weather has caused them. If I get the least bit overheated, wham. So I feel your pain. As one friend told me, it is Patch Patch Patch as you get older. I am finding that she is right.

  13. Oh my goodness, have the surgery immediately!!! I've been there, suffered for almost a year before I was diagnosed and, my God, it's worth getting it over with!!! I followed all the advice, avoid greasy foods, blah, blah. Found that I could eat a piece of pizza and be fine, but eat a darn salad and death was welcome. Seriously, if they do it right, it's a day or two and you are good as new... Just bite the bullet and do it! Trust me. In the meantime, I hope you are feeling better.

    1. Well, I'm not suffering anymore or I definitely would have had it right away! Thanks for the advise...we'll know soon enough. Next attack and I'm there. Not going to deal with this long term!

  14. Ooh, deary me, I know all about those hurt ankles :(
I hope yours gets better soon.
Gall Bladder trouble is something several of my relatives have dealt with, mostly gall stones, and they say the pain is excruciating, so I'm hoping you're over it and done with now.
The hot flashes are another story, I thought I was through ten years ago, but nooooooooo Mother Nature has other ideas...lol

    1. My gallbladder attack was sooo mild. It was barely there...more pressure than pain. I feel bad even calling it an attack. haha. Although it was mild, there certainly was a problem and the ultrasound confirmed that. We'll have to see what happens.
The hot flashes...goodness...this is so weird and something I don't wish on anyone. lol....

  15. Here's hoping all your troubles are behind you! Nothing but health and good things here on out. Can't give any advice about hot flashes as the good Lord spared me from them. I guess He figured, after all, having chronic pain from Lyme disease and Fibromyalgia, compounded by arthritis and other physical ailments I guess that was enough to bear. Life goes on! You need some boats for that lake.

  16. Hopefully your gallbladder will behave and no surgery will be necessary!

  17. Gracious, you have had a couple of bummer weeks. Hope gallbladder surgery can be avoided until after your trip. I got excited when I read you had a trip planned. Hope you tell us all about it.
