Picking Lavender

I have four large lavender bushes along the side of the house
and this year I was reading that if you want them to continue
to grow, you need to cut the lavender, which is just the
same as pruning the bushes.  So this afternoon I did just that.

I picked enough for 10 bundles and hung them to dry in my studio.
Now, that was a fun little chore!  It looks charming and I felt for
about 30 minutes that I was living in the pages of
Country Living Magazine. haha.

  7. Lavender is one of my favorites. I'm getting ready to plant some along the side of the patio flower garden. Your photos are gorgeous! Your lavender is gorgeous! And it's really looking like a Country Living photo shoot up in your kitchen!

    1. Hope yours does well! It seems to take care of itself. I used to have shasta daisies in that spot and they didn't get enough water under the eave of the house. Lavender must be drought resistant because it seems to be doing great!

  9. Such gorgeous photos, Betsy.
I use lavender to destress too - love the scent. A dear friend brought me back a beautiful cobalt blue bottle of lavender essential oil from France. Heavenly.
I also use the sachets in my drawers and closet, and sometimes tucked in my pillow.

at the buds that were dried and lighter!

  12. I love lavender! Me too I do cut it then dry it (btw. I love how you did hand yours very pretty!) I use it later in the wardrobes for a fresh smell and to keep away any bugs. I have one bunch hanging in our bedroom, it looks beautiful and even dried it still smells lovely. Happy weekend Betsy! Ps: have you already tried lavender tea? oh so yummy but you need to use edible lavender for that!

    1. How do you know if it's edible? I guess mine would be since it would be considered organic.

    2. Normally it is said on the pot or the seeds when you buy it ... I am not sure that organic makes it edible ... it makes sense but double check :-)

  17. Love Lavender! We lost 3 large lavender plants this year. I didn't think we had a bad winter. Just replaced one with a lavender tree. I know it's not the same, but....
I can smell yours hanging all the way here to Ontario, Canada

    1. I guess if you don't cut the blooms (prune it) they don't last. Did you ever prune it? Might help...

  25. I have lavender plants. I have not figured out everything, like why some plants just die & then some years you get a large plant & bumper crop of flowers. I do know that for a healthy plant, that you should cut the flowers, even if you let them flower out & die off. This has been a good year for my Lavender. It's nice to see your crop. :)
