Peonies

I got to enjoy the peonies a few days before the rain
beat them into the ground.  haha... Same story every
year, but they were beautiful while they lasted!

  1. They are beautiful and one of my favourite flowers! I have several peonies bushes in my garden. Betsy they never bloom 'crying' ... this year I tried to replant them as someone told me they might be too deep in the ground which prevents them from making the flowers. But of course after replanting you need to wait one more year to see if they will bloom 'heeeelp' .... Hopefully next year our garden will have beautiful peonies!! I can always hope. Which reminds me I do the same (hoping) with my spring allergies and guess what?! for the first year in years it worked!! So there is a hope for my peonies too :-)

    1. I transplanted two white peonies last year and they didn't bloom. This year they have buds...still! Very behind but it looks like there is hope! I have hydrangeas...three...that did this....never bloom! Ugh! So frustrating!

  3. Hi Betsy - I love, love, love them ... I used to buy them occasionally for my mother - and they lasted ... and when I see some I'm really jealous! One day I'll get a garden again ... enjoy any left but the rain must be good ... cheers Hilary

  4. Beautiful little corner! I have some white ones also... only seen them bloom one time, and that was just this Spring! Only made it to about a foot tall, and that was it. One bloom. Oh well... I keep hoping! LOL

    1. I hear the short ones are better...less likely to get weighted down in the rain!

  5. I had a few peonies once, but every year they seemed to get worse, until in the end they didn't show at all. The local garden centre told me to take a soil sample along and they analysed it. Turns out my soil is poison to them, too much clay content and too alkaline. I love the colours you can get now, white, pink, deep red, etc.

    1. My soil is alkaline, too. I have to add garden acid to a few things!

  6. Hi Betsy...
I have a few more blooms on mine today...I cut them, so I can enjoy them longer!
Much better weather here today...but, still a threat of passing thunderstorms...and...VERY breezy!
    Enjoy your day...
    Cheers!

  8. Ours are the same color as yours! And they sure don't last long. We brought a large bouquet inside to enjoy since they are on the side of the house with no windows. Can't really enjoy them from inside. Peonies have always been a favorite of mine too. My Grandmother had tons of them when I was young. Flowers always evoke such fond memories.

  9. Colorful indeed
    As they take seed
    Then the rain does fall
    And end it all

  11. The rains can ruin the whole blooming season of the peony. Mine did well for a while and then it rained of sprinkled for four days in a row. I like the color of yours and how it makes the corner is accented.

  12. They are beautiful!! Here they tend to get ants and if you are not careful to shake them off they make themselves at home.

  15. Gosh, you and Linda both have the most beautiful peonies. I had one bloom this year. Same as last year. I need to do some research....there is something it needs that I'm not giving. Your yard and flower garden is so pretty. I love your hostas, too!

  16. I just love peonies! Ours slowly faded and this year didn't come back. I guess I just have to admire other peoples.

  18. Gorgeous colour - and so sad that they always get dashed by the weather. It's the same story here.
