Last week I went to an auction that had a yard full
of box lots. In case you aren't familiar, boxes are full
of miscellaneous items and auctioned as a single sale.
You get everything in the box. It's wise to look through
the boxes before the bidding starts in case you see
something you're interested in! Many times I don't dig
down to the very bottom and when I get home, there
could be an unexpected surprise down in the box!
Sometimes it's good...sometimes it's not. haha.
There was a little dish in the bottom of one of my boxes.
It was wrapped in this little tea towel. The dish wasn't anything
special, but the towel was adorable! Such a fun little surprise!
The best buy I had at this particular auction was a grouping of two
boxes full of Cuisinart cookware and a Sharp cordless vacuum.
Total cost $2.50. Amazing!
Do you go to auctions?
I highly recommend it! So fun!
♥
Only last month I had a find at a house sale, a stained glass window hanging by an old friend who died several years ago. It was signed my him and I recognised his handwriting on the glass. That is one thing I wont part with . . . .ever!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a pleasant surprise, It's exciting when something really great turns up.
That was a fun surprise! I bet you couldn't believe your eyes!
DeleteWhen I'm able to get out and about again, I'm going to start going to auctions.
ReplyDeleteCuisinart cookware is wonderful, you got yourself a wonderful bargain.
What fun !

Didn't I? I couldn't believe it when nobody bid against me. I shared with Lauren. :)
DeleteGreat find Betsy! Nope I don't dare go to auctions, I'm downsizing:)
ReplyDeletehaha....well, then you'd have to be very choosy. You'd be surprised at the find...
Deletemaybe something you're actually needing!
$2.50? Bargooooon!
ReplyDeleteI know! Craziness!
DeleteI have been before. I bought 2 wooden chairs that have a lot of personality. Paid $5 each and we bought a signed lithograph that's in our living room for $15. Both good deals but auctions can get scary if I get caught up and blow my wad. (:0)
ReplyDeleteYep...you certainly have to know what to say no! But if you're careful, it can be
Deletefun and very worthwhile!
Oh my what a find. I love Cuisinart but only have my little butter crock with lid. I love your little tea towel. I haven't ever seen a auction around us...need to google it. Maybe that will be a new pastime!
ReplyDeleteButter crock? I bet you're thinking of Le Creuset, aren't you? I don't have any of that but
Deleteit's very nice stuff and so pretty! Yes, you should look up some auctions. Use auctionzip.com!
Yes, sounds good fun and I can see why you love it. You manage to get some interesting stuff at bargain prices. I think I'll employ you as my business manager ~ what is your commission? . . . lol
ReplyDeleteLovely little towel ~ so you !! . . :)
haha...oh, I have plenty of my own business to keep me busy! You're on your own!
DeleteOh I am disappointed . . . . haha
DeleteYou do so good at auctions! I suppose if I went more often I might too. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, you would! Absolutely!
DeleteI have not been to an auction, but watch Pickers. You bundled smalls.👍
ReplyDeletelol....yes, 'smalls'.
DeleteHi Betsy - I don't go to auctions ... but you seem to find or come across wonderful treasures ... and yes isn't that tea-towel fun ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteIt is fun...so sweet! It washed up very nicely, too.
DeleteBetsy, actually I don't like auctions; seeing old things makes me sad :-)
ReplyDeleteThe embroidered towel is so cute!
Have a nice day
Oh, but they need a new home! :)
DeleteI love old things....just about everything in my home is old!
Betsy, the point is that you're able to change the old into new and I'm not :-)
DeleteHave a nice day
Hi Betsy, I love your embroidered towel. What a treasure. We love auctions and find great stuff that we sell on Ebay. Some of our best items we got inexpensively and made a bundle on are a Camel-back Telegraph Key, a Dragon and Phoenix carved figurine, lots of vintage automobile parts and dresser drawer hardware and glass door knobs. Unfortunately our auctioneer that is nearby has stopped putting box lots up for auction and puts those items in his own flea market booth with prices that are too high for us to be able to make a profit. It's really hurt our business. So now, I buy more things I like to keep for a while and enjoy them in my own home and maybe after a year or two I try to sell them for at least what I paid for them. Sometimes it's difficult to part with items so my collection is growing. LOL Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you need to find a new auctioneer! Look on auctionzip.com!
DeleteI have only been to one auction in my life but there was nothing sell for 2.00 at that auction,, at all! You found some real treasures,,
ReplyDeleteSounds like you need to try again! :)
DeleteThe little towel is so sweet! I've never been to an auction and never see them. I might Google that. :)
ReplyDeleteauctionzip.com will tell you all the auctions close to you..listings, photos, directions.
DeleteI love anything that someone spent their time doing the handwork. This towel is precious as we say here in Alabama. I have never gone to an auction because I am afraid I will lift my hand at the wrong time.:) Sounds like it was a profitable auction for you Betsy!!
ReplyDeleteWell, you can't wave at someone you know or scratch your head while they are taking bids. haha.
DeleteBut it isn't all that stuffy that you have to be too afraid to go. You should try it...
👍🏻
DeleteI have got to get on the auction bandwagon! Sweet find!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes you do!
DeleteNow tat was a bargain indeed
ReplyDelete$2.50 taking seed
You sure know how to find them in mass
What? Still no singing bass? lol
Never lived up to your threat
Sure the cat won't fret
Oh, the threat is still alive
DeleteI'll send one to your hive!
I haven't seen one yet
but I will, you can bet!
We've been trying to clean out my dad's old house (well, my sister and brother-in-law have done most of the work) and thrown out a ton of things. It's a lot of work to go through everything and it was just easier to dispose of things than to auction it. I did find some of my old toys and looked them up on eBay... some go for up to $100 now. Anyway, a long way of saying that I think it's more fun to go to an auction to find bargains than to be the one who has to sell everything. Ha!
ReplyDeletehaha...yes,...but the auction people do all the work...they clean out the house and everything!
DeleteNice to see you....I've wondered what you were up to!
When I was young and in college I would go to farm sales in southern Iowa. I would buy those boxes for a quarter and be so glad that I did. I pulled out a cue ball from ivory. I found a glass dish with lid that later I found out was a powder dish with a fawn on the lid. Lots of junk that I helped people throw away.
ReplyDeleteyes...nice memories! It's always fun!
DeleteSuch a charming little surprise - lucky you
ReplyDeleteI can't decide what I liked better...that it was brought home unknown in the bottom of the box or that it was just so darn cute!
