I knew my laptop needed a good cleaning weeks ago,
but when my space bar kept sticking this week, I couldn't
put that chore off any longer! Last night it wouldn't move at all!
When I had a computer and separate keyboard, I'd take all
the keys off and give the whole thing a good cleaning quite
often. It's harder with a laptop! I ended up turning it off
and blowing it with this spray air. When that didn't really
do the job as thoroughly as I wanted it to, I took a corsage pin
and ran it in the grooves between the keys. Then I gave the
whole thing a good wipe down to remove any stickies on the
keys and the screen and blew it out again lifting some keys just
a bit by the corners to let more air go through.
So much better! I'm sure none of you are surprised that
I may have had a few pet hairs stuck under there. ha.
That, and I like to eat at my desk while I work, so there
were some crumbs in there, too. And I may or may not have
sneezed on the screen a while back. Yeah, you get the picture.
So much better now! lol. Some of my key labels have worn
off in recent years. Mainly E, T, I, S, H and L.
I'm going to remember those if I ever get on Wheel of Fortune!
♥
You shouldn't type with the hand thats just been holding the remnants of a sticky chocolate brownie! Eating whilst typing is a strict no-no here!
ReplyDeleteWell, what fun is that? haha.
DeleteI was wondering. When you said you used pull the keys off to clean behind, did you ever forget which order they went back in? I have a friend here who pulled her keys off and put them back in the order that she wanted, and couldn't understand why they didn't show the right letters, i.e. jskt hebrth ki s fbrnmajl> dom; I tried to explain, but she couldn't grasp the idea that just moving the keys didn't work like that.
DeleteI took a picture of the keyboard before starting!
DeleteThat's cheating!
DeleteNo, that's smart! So I have to ask...I'm assuming
Deleteyour friend was blonde? lol...
You guessed correctly! And her name is Agelina (I think the blonde bit comes out of a bottle)
DeleteAh...she sounds like just your type! :)
DeleteToo young for me, 35, I would be accused of "cradle snatching" Ha!
Deleteahhhh,, good job done!
ReplyDeleteYes, and crossed off my spring cleaning list! haha.
DeleteI think I'm going to have to do that too. I'm guilty of eating while at the laptop. No pets but just a lot of messes.
ReplyDeleteFortunately I've never spilled coffee, which is a small miracle!
Deletehaha cat hair and crumbs galore
ReplyDeleteHave a bit at my shore
I just hold the button down
Then it works in my town
I held it down
Deletebut it didn't rebound!
hahaha....
I need to do that to mine! :)
ReplyDeleteI need to do it more often! haha.
DeleteI guess I'm not too surprised about the cat hair. And, I'm not at all surprised about how well you cleaned it, either....considering the sneeze. HaHa! OCD! Love your picture over there on the sideboard. Is that your new hair style?
ReplyDeleteI got a couple of inches trimmed...same style, though.
DeleteHa- I needed this post. I just typed a post using my on screen keyboard because e is no longer working. Going to try your tips now!
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing types better, Angie! haha....I should have done it long ago!
DeleteI needed a laugh too!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm happy to give you one! :) Thinking of you....
DeleteYou are very smart to take and place the keys back in the correct order...
ReplyDeleteThat was on my old computer where they snapped off easily.
DeleteAnd I took a photo first so I'd get it all back correctly!
On my last laptop the letters on several keys gradually wore off. Even though I was trained by touch so I didn't have to stare at the keyboard, it could be a real pain in the rumpus!
ReplyDeleteRight...I don't look at the keys so it doesn't bother me at all!
DeleteI did see on Pinterest that you can buy new sticky key labels to give your
Deletelaptop a whole new look. Could be fun!
Cool!
DeleteHi Betsy - my keyboard is looking distinctly dusty .. but then no pets ... and I don't often eat here - maybe salads if I'm in a rush at lunchtime ... good for you at being so efficient .. and now you have one happy keyboard ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteand no snacking? You're amazing! haha....
DeleteCan you fly over and do mine now please? . . . lol
ReplyDeleteYes...if you buy me some fish and chips for my efforts! :)
Delete. . . it's a deal . . :)
DeleteThat's the same for me... I use to dust my keyboard every morning in office; of course I don't do the same with my laptop at home hahaha
ReplyDeleteA daily dusting would help a lot....I'm going to try to remember to do that!
DeleteAfter reading your post Betsy, I am giving my laptop a critical eye and it could use a cleaning as well. We bought the white Apple Mac laptop and never again. It just STAYS dingy looking!!
ReplyDeletehmm...I wonder if a little bleach on a Q-tip would work?
DeleteSo NOW you're into the computer repair business? Amazing! The woman that can do ANYTHING!! And with a pretty smile too!
ReplyDeletewell, now....flattery will get you everywhere, you know...lol...
DeleteThis is why my laptop was given away to a family member and I love my ipad so much. Sad though, I still have to get on the big desktop to post to my blog. I just turn my keyboard upside down once a week and shake. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI have an iPad. It's great for browsing but I can't deal with a lot of typing on it! It's on my bedside table and I can check emails and the weather with it but I love my laptop for work!
DeleteWell done Betsy! Enjoy your clean keyboard!!
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying it! SO much better!
Deleteand...the fan hasn't run on it all day so I know it can breathe now! haha.
DeleteI hear you.
ReplyDeleteMy "n" key has been sticking so when I type message they come out a bit strange.
