Around Here, Lately

  1. We had very strange weather over the weekend.  Snow and 50 mph winds, with gusts up to 80!  Snow and daffodils...a typical Ohio spring!
  2. Shrimp thawing.  Looks like a black and white photo, doesn't it? But it isn't!
  3. One of the best smells....lemon zest.
  4. Another best smell....fresh baked muffins.
  5. Cell phone selfie, me running errands..out and about and happy the sun came out. (It usually rains on me on errand day!)
  6. Took this while at an auction.  Had just won this pretty tea set.  It isn't in the shop yet....trying to find out more about it first. No markings on the bottom.  Any help would be appreciated!
  7. Another fun buy.  I bought it for myself (obvious reasons if you know me) for $3.  Once home, I discovered it was a plate in the series of Fontaine's Fables made in 1880.  This fable is The Sparrow And The Other Birds.  I found two online auction houses asking $275 for plates in the series.   One on clearance for $245. Goodness!
  8. Morning light in the back yard.  Snow on sprouting hostas.
  9. Slate.

    1. Well, I shouldn't, because of my gout, but I was snacking on shrimp just the other day!

    2. Snacking? Who 'snacks' on shrimp? lol...too expensive for most of us to do that!

    3. Walmart was selling bags of frozen shrimp for only $5.

    4. Strange weather you had indeed
80 mph is quite a speed
I bet it made those small plants sway
I'm surprised they were not blown away
I see from the bowl you did not skimp
      I can almost hear you, "Have a shrimp!" . . . lol
Lemon juice sure smells the best
Just cut and squeeze the rest.
I also like the thought of stuffin'
One of two of those lovely muffins.
Is that girl you in that shot
You look so young, 'great scott'
I would never think you'd had four boys
And grown up ones ~ not wee toys.
Those auction buys are so impressive
      With artwork simply so expressive
You really have eyes for a good deal
      Classy, and with finance appeal.
Nice shot of your back yard
With the snow so frosty and hard.
Slate looks so comfy in his 'home'
I see it's shot in monochrome.

Lovely collection of photos ~ have a nice evening with the big kids . . . :)

  3. On no.8 I have to admit I cannot "spot the cat". I give up, where is it?
No.9, my mother had a basket very like that, it hung on the wall of the outhouse and she kept clothes pegs in it.
No.2, Shrimps? Not for me, thanks!

  4. Oh I love those dishes! I am going to have to go and visit your shop. I love all things glass! And shrimp...yum. We will be heading to the Gulf in June so we will fill up on shrimp then.

    1. The tea set is beautiful in person. Maybe bone china...it's thin but not eggshell thin. Lucky you in June...you'll have to post photos of the yummy food!

  7. Blah to the shrimp

    1. Monkey would never entice me. Ever.
Not baked, fried or any endeavor.
If you ever decide on it to chow,
I'm coming to Nova Scotia to watch some how.
Taking a lot of photos, too,
so on my blog I can make fun of you. hahahahaha....

    2. lmao I think air travel here won't be in the cards
We have no monkeys in beds, cars or yards
      so safe from eating those
      And causing them woes

    3. It's really too bad
      and kind of sad.
Would have been such a treat
to see you eat some monkey meat.
      lol.

  8. That sparrow plate would be a perfect match for you even if it wasn't such a deal. I know you're enjoying the little dusting of snow but I'm hoping that we've seen the last of it for the year (though I see in the forecast that we're due for some more later in the week).

  9. 80 mph winds? Holy cow! Our weather here in KY has been cold, but the snow might arrive in a couple of days. Stay warm!

    1. Yeah, that wind was crazy...took some trees down, too!

  10. Boy, you scored big time on that pretty plate! The tea set is cute, too. Shrimp is my favorite seafood and lemon muffins, yum. Your selfie is pretty and Slate looks content, and I just love that snow on your daffodils. It's turning cool this week, here. Hope my garden lives. It's supposed to drop into the 30's tonight and I'm at the beach, so I can't cover the veggies up. Sigh! I really should have waited to plant. But the good news is that I still have time to replant, if Mother Nature decides to throw us some frost.

    1. You did get bitten by the gardening bug early! Hopefully it will all be ok when you get home.
Jealous of you being at the beach....sounds so nice right about now!

    You've found some great deals!
I love the basket Slate is in - so cool!

    1. Isn't that the sweetest basket? An auction find, of course, complete with little padded liner inside. :)

  12. Ahh, Slate is a beauty, but the gray cat that I got to hold was Smoke, correct? There are so many I can't keep all their names straight, ha! Maybe you should do a post with all their photos and names...oh wait, you've probably done one like that already, huh?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, that was Slate that you held! He's wonderful. I haven't done a post with their photos and names in a long time! Faces and names have changed a bit since I did that! haha. Good idea. :)

  13. It is always fun, when you buy something, and find out it is worth way more! Especially when you love It!
My daffodils fell on their faces in the snow...they perked up a bit today in the sunshine...
    Love using lemon zest....so fresh!
    Hope you enjoyed your evening...
    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

  15. Love your new plate. Great buy. And your auction basket looks great too.
I am stuck in bed with a horrid sore throat. My glands have been threatening to do something nasty for several weeks and they've finally leapt into action. Ugh! And our lovely spring sunshine has been replaced by a grim grey chill.
On the plus side, I ordered some picture frames online and they came yesterday. If I feel a little bit better later I will try putting in the pictures and maybe even hanging them up. The Chef starts his journey home today and it would be a nice surprise for him.

  19. Love your auction finds! I hope you let us know if you find out anything about the tea set. I think the plate is great. My latest auction buy was a 1887 Mason & Hamlin Screwstringer upright piano for $70. that I bought for my grandson. Of course I'll use it too. Auctions are such fun........ Enjoy your day!

  21. I went to a baby shower near L.A. last weekend and we all got bags of lemons as hostess gifts. Fresh from their tree! What a great gift. That plate is perfect for you. I always love to see old objects find beloved homes. Perfect. You look great!

  24. I don't see how Mother Nature knows it will be OK to let the daffodils bloom even when it snows and the wind blows 50 miles an hour. But they sure are pretty. We saw, for the first time, last evening, a huge white cat with black spots. We usually see a black cat and sometimes a black one with white feet and we saw a big yellow one the other day. Always dark or just about dark--when the skunk comes and cleans up any leftovers on the driveway that the birds didn't eat.
