Vintage Insulator Night Light

My laundry 'room' is situated in a hallway that leads to
a storage closet, a second walk-in pantry and the boys'
bedroom.  I thought it would be nice to have some kind
of pretty night light in that space since the hallway
is pretty dark once the sun goes down.

I took a short cord (12 bulb) string of lights and put a vintage insulator
over groups of two bulbs.   Then I drilled a hole in the back of the shelf
so the cord could plug into the outlet under the shelf
without draping over the front.

It gives just enough glow to be a night light!

Slowly they are making their way around the house. :)

    1. I bet you're having such fun getting settled in your new place!
The best thing about cabinets is that they hold all the unsightly stuff. haha.

    1. So interesting that those insulators were only to serve one purpose on those
telephone poles! haha. I bet nobody dreamed of what they would become today!

    1. Don't they? So fun. I have some white and grey ones that I've been looking at, wondering
      what they could become. :)

    1. Funny story about those glass eggs. They were up for bid at an auction and nobody wanted them...mostly farmers at this particular auction and they seemed totally unimpressed. But I thought they were beautiful and got them for a song. It wasn't until later that I found out they weren't a beautiful decoration at all, but fake eggs that farmers put in their chicken's nesting boxes. When they gather the eggs each day, they leave the glass one and I guess it makes the chickens happy that their eggs aren't all taken and they end up laying more. Now, maybe you knew that but I didn't! lol.... I'm such a city girl...hahaha......I would have never guessed that in a million years!

    2. HaHa! No, I never heard that, either. Poor hens....thinking they are going to have a baby soon. Oh well, at least the farmers figured out how to up production. Lol.

  11. That looks fantastic, Betsy!
I have fairy lights in my living room...along a shelf...along with some plants and knicknacks....they are on a timer, and come on at dusk!
It gives such a pretty glow to that room, which would otherwise be dark!
I also have lights all around my yard, also on timers...they are on all year long!
Enjoy your weekend...go and try on some hats! Hahaha!
    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

  12. Oh what a great idea and use of your vintage insulators. Just the best color and amount of light. Don doesn't understand my love of night lights...I have them in every outlet in my kitchen as they just bring a bright spot to all the things on the counters. Mine serve the purpose, but yours are so "designer" you could sell them. Clever to drill a hole for the cord. I hate when I have a cord stretched behind things.
Have a great weekend. Sending Hugs.

    1. Sometimes you just need a little light so it isn't pitch black....I have a little light in our kitchen, too!
Not to mention the ambiance...tell Don it's the feeling as much as the look! haha..
