Saved From The Frost

Time for some fried green tomatoes, I'm  thinking!

And Betty, I'm showing the platter just for you!
Auction trash from Wednesday's auction....yes, left for
the trash!  A 100 year old Grindley ironstone platter.
Perfect condition, blue transferware flowers and gold flourishes.
Hard to believe, isn't it?  Oh, and the kitchen scale in the
background?  Yep...I found it in the trash, too!

Now, where's my cornmeal and panko....

    1. Crazy, isn't it? They don't actually throw things in the trash..they just leave it FOR the trash. Same thing, I guess. haha. If they bid on a box lot (a box full of various items) they win the whole box. But many people only pick out what they really want and leave the rest there. And lucky auction employees walk through the remains when everyone has left, taking anything worth keeping.

Could I have your recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes?
My son said he made those for the first time a few days ago. He maybe needs a perfected recipe. :)

    1. We usually only have fried green tomatoes once a year...right about this time when the frost is going to kill the plant and the green ones need to be picked...they are good....I'm thinking they might be nice with a chipotle mayo for dipping...yum.

  10. Every time I hear "Fried Green Tomatoes" I think I should watch that old movie again. Do you do them like fried eggplant. dip in egg and breadcrumbs? Your "trash" finds are fabulous.

    1. Yes....and the crumbs have cornmeal in them...that's the secret! It's been so long I don't even remember what that movie was about! We used to have Friday movie night around here....we should bring back that tradition!
