Time for some fried green tomatoes, I'm thinking!
And Betty, I'm showing the platter just for you!
Auction trash from Wednesday's auction....yes, left for
the trash! A 100 year old Grindley ironstone platter.
Perfect condition, blue transferware flowers and gold flourishes.
Hard to believe, isn't it? Oh, and the kitchen scale in the
background? Yep...I found it in the trash, too!
Now, where's my cornmeal and panko....
♥
Things saved from the frost... and from the trash! Lovely. Never had fried green tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteMakes me feel like Wonder Woman...saving anything and everything. haha...
DeleteLove that platter!! And, I love fried green tomatoes!! I looked up auctionzip.com and found an auction 20 miles from me, but my plans today was to go to my grandsons birthday party. So, I'll have to try again. Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteOh, cool.....when you look, be sure and look through the whole week....many are during the week, too.
DeleteHope you can get to one soon!
Saving all day
ReplyDeleteThere at your bay
From trash and the frost
At no cost
Can't beat free...
Deleteseems fun to me!
The free stuff in the garbage cans are the kind of deals I and go for. It is a great platter.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it beautitful? Someone didn't like it...but the older stuff is my favorite!
DeleteWhat? In the trash? Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteI know! After working there 6 years the amazement still gets me!
DeleteWhat is it with people throwing that in the trash!1 Those are gorgeous pieces. Thank you Betsy for sharing:)
ReplyDeleteCrazy, isn't it? They don't actually throw things in the trash..they just leave it FOR the trash. Same thing, I guess. haha. If they bid on a box lot (a box full of various items) they win the whole box. But many people only pick out what they really want and leave the rest there. And lucky auction employees walk through the remains when everyone has left, taking anything worth keeping.
DeleteI think I have to come and be the Trash man at your place. Can't believe that was left.
ReplyDeleteCould I have your recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes?
My son said he made those for the first time a few days ago. He maybe needs a perfected recipe. :)
Sure...I will be making them soon and I'll post the recipe!
DeleteWow! I can't believe you found those treasures in the trash... score! Fried green tomatoes are delicious. The first time I had them, I was hooked... :)
ReplyDeleteWe usually only have fried green tomatoes once a year...right about this time when the frost is going to kill the plant and the green ones need to be picked...they are good....I'm thinking they might be nice with a chipotle mayo for dipping...yum.
DeleteLove those green tomatoes, but love those auction finds even more!
ReplyDeleteI know! Most things go in my shop, but once in a while I have to keep a find....like this one!
DeleteEvery time I hear "Fried Green Tomatoes" I think I should watch that old movie again. Do you do them like fried eggplant. dip in egg and breadcrumbs? Your "trash" finds are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteYes....and the crumbs have cornmeal in them...that's the secret! It's been so long I don't even remember what that movie was about! We used to have Friday movie night around here....we should bring back that tradition!
DeleteWow...good for you on that platter. I hope your tomatoes come out tasty!
ReplyDeleteJane x
That's a lot of fired ones...lol.....maybe a few will ripen for me.
DeleteAmazing that platter was in the trash . . .100 years old . . might be worth something.
ReplyDeleteA good rescue mission re the green tomatoes ~ I've never tried fried green ones ~ interesting to see what they are like . . .
Hope you had a great day at the second auction . . . :)
It was a good day but miserably cold and windy.....the only thing that would have made it worse would have been rain. Lol....
DeleteGlad it did not rain on you . . . :)
DeleteVery happy birthday to the boys and have a wonderful celebration . . :)
Just seen little Rosa and she is doing very well and is now 11lb 2 oz, gaining 5lbs in 8 weeks. She is much happier and I had a nice cuddle . . :)
Was shattered on Friday after Peter for 2 days ~ lol
Hi Betsy - green tomatoes are a great recipe aren't they in the States ... they are filtering through here too. Those will ripen up I guess. The platter is a delight - clever of you to find these things ... hope you kept warm ...cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteYes, very southern here but made their way north....and now across the pond I guess!
DeleteI have never had that dish....post a few photos!
ReplyDeleteI had 4 green ones still on the stalk at the cottage...too small...yours look bigger!
Have a great Sunday Betsy...perhaps some yard work for me!
Cheers!
