The Outpatient

Alex and I have to leave for the hospital at 5:30
Wednesday morning.  He has to go under general
anesthesia to fill two cavities in his teeth.  Send some
love and prayers our way, won't you?

He gets anxious and can't have his anti-anxiety medication
since it could create complications with the stuff they use
to knock him out.  I spent a good part of Monday on the
phone with our doctor, the dentist and the hospital
trying to see if an exception could be made, but it can't.
And his veins are hard to find.
The did say they would give him a 'cocktail' of stuff to
make him not care.  haha.  Maybe I could have one, too?
I'm already feeling a little stressed about it all.
But we moms just have to rise above that and be
the calming, reassuring rock in these times, don't we?

He's blissfully unaware as of now.
I hope he doesn't think we're making a pre-dawn
trip to McDonald's when we leave.  haha.  Oh dear.

  3. Aw, I love seeing this photo of your hands together. I think that must be one of the great challenges as a Mom is to be calm for them while your insides are churning.
I hope all goes well and I will have you in my prayers all day. xox

    1. Usually I'm stressed the days leading up to something, then when in the moment I can do just fine...jump in with both feet and do it....
feel a peace and handle it very well. (then crash with exhaustion that night. lol....)

  5. I sincerely hope it all goes well, and he doesn't get too stressed when he realises where he is going. You must try not to be too anxious yourself, because I think he might sense your mood and get more upset. I'll be thinking of both of you tomorrow.

    1. We are indispensable, aren't we? I told the mister that I took Spencer a few months
ago and it was his turn this time. And he said, "You know Alex would do better with you!"
      And he's right....lol.....

  15. Best to you and Alex tomorrow. Nothing like Mom to comfort and calm. Well, Mom and a 'cocktail' perhaps. With my son, we usually try to talk to him ahead of time as he does not handle surprises well. But that does also mean he has more time to get anxious. I'm sure you know best on how to approach all that with Alex. Will be thinking of you.

    1. Thanks, Yuji. He's never been to the hospital for a procedure before, so I'll just say 'doctor' and that's about as close as he'll understand.
I'm filling him up with water tonight so that IV will go in easier in the morning....still remember that tip you gave me..what a lifesaver!

    2. Try to get him to drink water in the morning, too.

    3. That would be great for drawing blood, but he can't have anything to eat or drink after midnight.
