Living Room Reveal

Last month we changed up our living room!
Not a total redo ~ we didn't paint or replace the carpet.
Hopefully the carpet will go next year. :)
It started with the need to replace the two couches,
and took off from there.  We had always struggled with
the layout of this long, narrow room but we're happy with
how we did it this time, making the whole area more useful!

It's a fun blend of contemporary and vintage and we're
enjoying it a lot.  The bigger, darker pieces are gone so the
room feels bigger and lighter.

The sectional, entertainment center, end table, canvas
painting, rolling metal basket, area rugs and floor lamp
were all from overstock.com in the clearance section.

Bar and serving sectionals, chair & ottoman and
couch pillow are from Pottery Barn.

Throws from ebay.

All the vintage accessories I already had.

Just like with the rest of the house, I've been trying to
remove the clutter and have a place for everything.
Yes, this girl with the clutter gene is still learning
and improving!  It's never too late to change!
And this is so much better!  I'm certainly not
a minimalist, but I do believe that less is more!
It's amazing how much cleaner the rooms stay
and how easy they are to dust and vacuum!

Thanks for wading through all those photos!
Short and sweet posts will resume tomorrow. ha.

wish I'd remembered to take the before
photos! haha. As soon as we had the idea,
those couches were gone before I thought
      about my camera. lol...

  2. I just straighten our shelving unit today and it makes my life feel better. You have a wonderful arrangement. It all works well and space is a blessing with all furniture functioning just for what you want it to. I have pieces that need to go somewhere else. I am assuming that is Star sleeping on the couch.

    1. Well, thank you. You know, I have been hired as an interior decorator
a few times....not that I have any formal training or anything...lol...but
it's fun! The Mister likes the contemporary and I like the antiques, so
this was a good compromise. :)

  12. It looks so pretty, Betsy! You did a great job. I love your color scheme and additions of vintage pieces. I've had the same mindset lately about less is more. I've been purging closets and cabinets this week. I've thrown away a lot and took a lot to Goodwill. It feels good to be free from the clutter. Thanks for sharing your photos!

  15. I love the look! You have such a knack for adding cute little touches to your rooms. We got a new couch and loveseat a few months ago. We're planning to repaint and make a few changes, but we've been procrastinating. When we get that done, I think you need to make a trip to Michigan to help with those final touches! :)

That room looks like it was designed by a top class feng shui artist, it just oozes peace and tranquility, and as Sandra says, the colour scheme is absolutely great. That's the sort of room I would love to create here, but I can never get it right. I think my kitchen is about my best creation I've done (You've seen it) and I love to spend time in there.
