Last month we changed up our living room!
Not a total redo ~ we didn't paint or replace the carpet.
Hopefully the carpet will go next year. :)
It started with the need to replace the two couches,
and took off from there. We had always struggled with
the layout of this long, narrow room but we're happy with
how we did it this time, making the whole area more useful!
It's a fun blend of contemporary and vintage and we're
enjoying it a lot. The bigger, darker pieces are gone so the
room feels bigger and lighter.
The sectional, entertainment center, end table, canvas
painting, rolling metal basket, area rugs and floor lamp
were all from overstock.com in the clearance section.
Bar and serving sectionals, chair & ottoman and
couch pillow are from Pottery Barn.
Throws from ebay.
All the vintage accessories I already had.
Just like with the rest of the house, I've been trying to
remove the clutter and have a place for everything.
Yes, this girl with the clutter gene is still learning
and improving! It's never too late to change!
And this is so much better! I'm certainly not
a minimalist, but I do believe that less is more!
It's amazing how much cleaner the rooms stay
and how easy they are to dust and vacuum!
Thanks for wading through all those photos!
Short and sweet posts will resume tomorrow. ha.
♥
Perfect!
ReplyDeleteAnd...don't you look lovely and cosy♥️
Kudos to you and The Mr.!!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
It's a huge improvement...
Deletewish I'd remembered to take the before
photos! haha. As soon as we had the idea,
those couches were gone before I thought
about my camera. lol...
I just straighten our shelving unit today and it makes my life feel better. You have a wonderful arrangement. It all works well and space is a blessing with all furniture functioning just for what you want it to. I have pieces that need to go somewhere else. I am assuming that is Star sleeping on the couch.
ReplyDeleteIt does make you feel better, doesn't it? I totally get that!
DeleteYes, that is Star....taking her afternoon snooze.
Love the new look...the grays and blues are so beautiful. Love your paintings and special bowls, glasses, bottles, etc. Wonderful!! Just love the picture of you...I wanted so bad to curl up on your couch and visit face to face.....But the next best thing is our blogs visits. They are very special to me.
ReplyDeleteIt is very soft and restful in there...I think that's what strikes me the most. We need that
Deletearound here...lol.... Now, you sitting on the couch would just be so much fun!
Come on over! :)
It looks really comfy cozy, Betsy. The colours are very soft and warm. I LOVE your big window with the wide window-sill. That is gorgeous. Look at little Star. She looks so comfy it's making me sleepy. haha! And, what a lovely picture of you. You are such a pretty girl. :)) Deb
ReplyDeleteIsn't she sweet? She looks so little on that big couch! She knows how to find the coziest spots, that's for sure!
DeleteI love your style. And I guessing your artwork too. Truth be told, I'm not always a blue fan...but this looks soft and subtle...peaceful. I haven't said much, but we are moving...to the country, about 15 min. from our current home. Downsizing too. Do you hire out?
ReplyDeleteThe nest is my artwork but the other is not. :) Moving to the country! How exciting for you!
DeleteDownsizing...ah, the cleaning and purging! haha.... I do hire out...I have a few times....too
bad you don't live closer! :)
Lovely..
ReplyDeleteBest regards,
Pierre
Thank you, Pierre! :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful room you have made , , , beautifully designed and appointed and it was a pleasure reading through the photos and commentary and to cap it all to see your beautiful picture at the end . . . .one of my favourites . . . :)

The living room is greatly improved...wish I would have taken before pictures!
DeleteIt all looks very nice, and it's just how I would do it, because I am a "blue" person myself. I love that side table, it is so French style, and It is especially lovely to the that charming Miss Ohio in the last picture
ReplyDeleteTypo! ". . . especially lovely to see that charming Miss Ohio. . ."

DeleteTypo! ". . . especially lovely to see that charming Miss Ohio. . ."
Deletethank you...and thank you again. :)
DeleteLove, love, love what you have done.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and so comfy yet uncluttered.
I just love your sideboard and the mix of vintage and contemporary.
I think you need to come and "do" my house too.
My son just repainted his entire home in the same soft gray. It looks fabulous.
Incidentally the picture of you is wonderful.
Well, thank you. You know, I have been hired as an interior decorator
Deletea few times....not that I have any formal training or anything...lol...but
it's fun! The Mister likes the contemporary and I like the antiques, so
this was a good compromise. :)
You blend the old and new so well. Love the chair in that spot for reading. Colors and artwork are terrific. It is fun to get stuff on clearance.
ReplyDeletegreat work. You are looking pretty good yourself, too.
Getting stuff on clearance was the best part! haha...
DeleteVery warm and welcoming! Uncluttered!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think the uncluttered part is what I love the most!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful and inviting, looks like lots of room on the couch and ottomans !
DeleteYou display lots of interesting decorations, but still feels clean and clutter-less.
You are such a pretty lady m'dear, I always see your boys in your looks....
~Jo
Our whole family can fit on that big couch! so nice!
DeleteIt looks so pretty, Betsy! You did a great job. I love your color scheme and additions of vintage pieces. I've had the same mindset lately about less is more. I've been purging closets and cabinets this week. I've thrown away a lot and took a lot to Goodwill. It feels good to be free from the clutter. Thanks for sharing your photos!
ReplyDeleteI think the people at Goodwill know my Jeep by now! haha....
DeleteLol!! They probably have customers on alert.....waiting for the good stuff. By the way, I love that sailboat you have there.
DeleteKind of an odd thing to have in your kitchen, isn't it? haha...but I love the way it looks there..
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful. And you saved the best picture for last.....
ReplyDeleteWell, that was sweet. :)
Deletehaha look at you posing away
ReplyDeleteAll happy camper at your bay
All nice and neat and looks comfy too
A fine room indeed at your zoo
Seems at least one kitty will agree
Curled up in the place to be
I chucked a ton last week
Had receipts from a decade ago at my creek
Tossed a bunch indeed
Cats now have more things than I at my feed lol
I need to do the receipt purge.
DeleteI definitely have the urge.
No need to keep the old ones around
Can't wait to hear the empty drawer sounds.
lol.
I love the look! You have such a knack for adding cute little touches to your rooms. We got a new couch and loveseat a few months ago. We're planning to repaint and make a few changes, but we've been procrastinating. When we get that done, I think you need to make a trip to Michigan to help with those final touches! :)
ReplyDeleteThe little touches is my favorite part! haha...so fun to do.
DeleteI usually steal from other rooms in the house...then everything
has to be redone. lol...
Elegant, peaceful, sophisticated, comfy. Has it all! What a beautiful job you did. Just love your taste, as you know!
ReplyDeleteYour nest painting is perfect and I love those cool pieces above the TV. Very smart.
Wish I could cosy up next to Star!
You must be so happy with the results. Kudos to you. xo
Little Star doesn't seem to know a stranger here....she's love to snuggle up to you!
DeleteI love your living room! You did a wonderful job! =)
ReplyDeleteThank you! We are really enjoying it!
DeleteOMG that's so wonderful! I love the color of the wall and the big window.
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty too!
I've always loved that big window....all that daylight is so nice!
DeleteIt's looking homely, yet elegant. Love that shade of grey.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mike! That's exactly the feel I was going for...comfy and classy!
DeleteThis looks so nice, light and airy. I went back to previous posts to see the subtle changes you've made over the years from the dark to the lighter colors.
ReplyDeleteI assume you got rid of your fireplace and mantle? What a welcoming home! Loved the last picture of you in the chair (just relaxing after all of that work!??)
It has undergone quite a few different looks over the last 26 years! haha. Yes, we sold the fireplace and the big entertainment center...so much more room now!
DeleteHi Betsy - loved seeing the make-over ... so cleverly done and done with verve and passion. I too hope you get a few minutes each day resting quietly in that chair ... the room looks just right and could give you lots of solace. Wonderful colour and I love the pictures/art work over the tv ...
ReplyDeletegreat to see - cheers Hilary
I do need to sit in that chair and relax more often...well, actually, I've never done that! lol....
DeleteBeautiful! and you my dear must be a model !!! Thank you for letting us to peak inside your home. Loved your last cat fishy post as well :-) especially the last picture! :-) happy weekend Betsy!
ReplyDeleteThank you...you're sweet. :) Yes, Slate sure loved his fishy! I see it all over the house. haha.
DeleteIn fact, that fishy is in the living room photos...look at the end table! haha...
DeleteLooks great, Betsy!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Yuji....it's peaceful....and I need peace. lol....
DeleteHow much would it cost to hire you and bring you to NY??? Lol I love it!! Very pretty and it does look big.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks! I love doing this kind of stuff...so fun!
DeleteVery nice. And the colors you use are so soothing and peaceful. The kitty certainly looks content:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandra! That is a soothing and peaceful room...the perfect place for a kitty to nap! haha.
DeleteI just don't know how you do it! That room looks like it was designed by a top class feng shui artist, it just oozes peace and tranquility, and as Sandra says, the colour scheme is absolutely great. That's the sort of room I would love to create here, but I can never get it right. I think my kitchen is about my best creation I've done (You've seen it) and I love to spend time in there.
ReplyDeleteWell, fly me out there and let me help you! haha.... and yes, I've seen your kitchen and I love it. It oozes charm!
DeleteIf anyone else would like to see the kitchen and tell me how great it is (cough) you will find it here: http://earlshilton.org.uk/wp/my-little-shilton-kitchen/
ReplyDeleteyes, people...go take a look! :)

ReplyDeleteI love the bucket of vintage quilts.
ReplyDeleteIt is a charming touch.
And seriously, could you be any cuter?
