August 2007 - August 2015
Our sweet Nugget left us this morning.
Sweet old bunny.
I emailed The Mister when I got home from the vet
and said he was in heaven... probably munching on the best
organic lettuces ever. He sent a note back saying,
"Well, he lived a heavenly life with us, too."
And he's right, we spoiled him something awful. :)
We always thought of him as a rescue rabbit even though
we got him at a pet store. He had been there since a baby
and nobody had bought him after 6 months.
He'd never been out of the little glass aquarium he was in
and we enjoyed rescuing him from that environment
to introducing him to free reign of the house,
organic lettuces, and lots of toys.
You'd think he would prefer a quiet corner but we could
usually find him in the back of the house with the boys.
He loved to stay in their room even though it was chaotic,
loud and crazy there.
He had a lot of personality and loved to jump out from
around a corner and startle you.
He would run through the house and kick up his back
legs like he just couldn't contain his excitement.
He slept under the dining room table with a cat or two
and was softer than a cat could ever be.
He seems to have had a stroke several days ago
and when his condition didn't improve, it was
time to let him go. He was 80 years old in
human years. A nice, long, full life.
We miss him already.
♥
Oh my, so sorry to hear about your loss. Yes, I'm sure your sweet Nugget is in heaven.
ReplyDeleteYou and the boys will miss him dreadfully I'm sure. But it sounds like you gave him a very good life. I love the idea of him leaping out to startle you. I'm sure he knew just what he was about.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a lucky bun bun to have lived in your home, but he's in an even better home now. Hugs!!!
ReplyDeleteEven we miss him too . . . I am so sad and so sorry . . I know you and the family loved him very much and I expect the cats will miss him as well.
ReplyDeleteYou were very kind to him to relieve him from further suffering and you were kind to him throughout his life . . . he was an extremely lucky bunny to have you and the family . . you will see him again one day . . . :)
He must have had a good sense of humour to jump out and startle you . . . how fun it must have been . . .
I love your picture of him . . . :)
Oh, Betsy, I'm sorry to hear this. It never gets easier as we just love them so much. I'm sorry for your loss and hope that the memories of Nugget will help to heal the pain. What a lucky bunny he was when you think of all those that never feel the touch of a loving hand. Sending a hug, Deb
ReplyDeleteRescued and loved... A life well lived. So thankful for these 4 legged companions. XO
ReplyDeleteWell he did get the best and he surely appreciated it all. I hate when my blogger friends lose pets. I am really sorry he had to go.
ReplyDeletehe was a lucky bunny to have been loved by your family, in turn sounds like you were lucky to have him as well,
ReplyDeleterest in peace Nugget.
So sorry to hear about your sweet bunny, yes he is certainly in heaven.
ReplyDeleteHard, very hard!
ReplyDeleteWhat I always noticed about Nugget, was those ears.
And it sounds like he had a great personality to go with them.

Im so sorry Nuguett was a really sweet bunny!
ReplyDeleteI know always is sad when our pets die,Im so sorrry:(
Aw, I'm sorry Betsy. It's so hard when we lose our furry ones. But they bring us such joy and Nugget certainly had buckets of personality. He was a very handsome fella and very obviously well-loved. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteI am shocked and sorry to hear the news. He seemed to be one of those pets who would go one forever, even though he was 80. It is indeed a sad day for you.
ReplyDeleteOH, NO! Sending thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteIt is always hard to let go of a family pet. They become true family members.
ReplyDeleteRemember when it was only him at your place
ReplyDeleteSpoiled rotten is always a good embrace
Never easy when any furry family member's end comes due
But he sure had a great life with you
Aww, sweet Nugget, you lived a beautiful long life.......
ReplyDeleteHe was such a special boy, and he knew it.
RIP dear Nugget, you were a gentle soul.

ReplyDeleteOh dear.....so sad.....80? RIP Nugget....♥️
ReplyDeleteHow are the boys taking it?
Cheers!
Linda :o)
So sorry to hear this news. And I'm sure the Mister was right that he was already living in Heaven around your place. Especially with that special "pet angel" running to and fro making sure her menagerie were all taken care of.
ReplyDeleteVery sad news...so hard to lose a pet. But what a wonderful life he had with you.💔
ReplyDeleteOh Betsy. I am so sorry. Losing a beloved pet is so tough. My heart goes out to you all. Hugs from So. Cal.
ReplyDeleteI hate goodbyes.
ReplyDelete:(
I'm so sorry Betsy. You gave him a good life, but it's hard to say good bye.
ReplyDeleteThanks, friends. :) I read each of your comments as they came in and cried all over again with each one.
ReplyDeleteAfter several days of worrying about him and then today, I'm exhausted!
And yes, I agree with those of you who said it's best not to let him suffer.
Thanks to those of you who knew he was sick and checked in today with messages and texts...much appreciated.
He's buried under the pine trees beside our first two cats Alex and Teddy and a parakeet or two. :)
We're left with lots of sweet memories. :)
Love and hugs to you all ❤️ He has crossed over to the rainbow bridge.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :'(
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for you, Betsy! I know, how it feels...being so exhausted from pain and crying...lost my tomcat a week ago...And I am so sorry for Nuggets' loss of his beautiful life, too...But one can only agree with your husband! You gave him heaven on earth for a long time after rescueing him from a life of misery and cruel neglect...may he rest in peace
ReplyDeleteAw, Christel! I'm so very sorry! I loved that cat of yours...such a sweet story. He loved you, too, and was grateful for your care. I hope he went peacefully. xo
DeleteSo sorry for the loss of Nugget..You take good care of your animal companions and I know in my heart he is in bunny heaven! I hate animal stores the animals look like they want to run free, you gave Nugget a long good and loving life for that you and yours have joy, love and happiness in your human life! RIP Nugget...Our only rescued this kitteh cat who nearly jumped thru a window at a vets office in Seattle as she walked by daily to take the bus to her job, we have Miss Cody now and she is a such a sweetheart she runs in the house and I gently take her outside for some heat (we have had the longest stretch of a drought in 100 years here in the pacific northwest) she loves it for a few minutes and back she hops to her donut and toys inside for some coolness. Animals enrich human lives..have a week filled with memories of your sweet Nugget and know you do make a difference in animal lives esp. your beautiful Star kitteh cat..hugs sent out and love too..X()X()X()X()
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy .. how very sad - and gosh his coat looks wonderful in your photo. 80 is a good human age - 'cept I hope mine is further away than that. But I'd love to have spent my years with you and the family ... enjoying organic lettuce, having cuddles with various little cats, and then the boys creating the environment I could enjoy living in ... lucky Nugget.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts as you all adjust to life without him. I think the Mister had it right .. he was definitely in Nugget Heaven with you .. and now he has a paradise to rest in ... take care - Hilary
So sorry for your loss Betsy.....this made me tear up as I read it as I know the pain of losing a dear pet family member. I pray that God will comfort you during this sad time. Hugs...Janet
ReplyDeleteBless you sweet friend.....
ReplyDeleteBesy, I am so sorry. It is not fair that the animals do live such a short live. I know that Nugget could not have asked for a better home than yours! Sending lots of hugs your way!!! I like to think that maybe he has met our sweet Timi dog over the rainbow bridge ... Big big hugs!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust found out about this after having been away from the internet for a few days. So sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a pet is indeed like losing a member of the family.
ReplyDeleteYou knew how bad he was on Monday....
DeleteRight, but I didn't know the outcome until today.
DeleteAh, sorry to hear that Betsy. Our pets are much loved.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your loss. I do think The Mister had it right, though. Sounds like Nugget enjoyed his time with all of you!
ReplyDeleteDear Betsy... I was on my trip and Don called me to tell me about Nugget. I felt like I knew that sweet rabbit. All our beloved animals enjoying heaven. Love you.
ReplyDeleteYour Don left me the nicest facebook message which I really appreciated. He's as sweet as you! :)
DeleteI somehow missed this post, and only found it after you mentioning Nugget in your post today. I'm so sorry for your sadness. Piper has been gone 3 weeks today, and I thought I was alright with it........but when I came home from grocery shopping Friday afternoon and she didn't greet me on the porch waiting for a kiss through the spindles, I broke out crying uncontrollably !
ReplyDeleteI know you have lots of 'babies', and I think that EACH of them is very blessed to have YOU !
