What's For Dinner?

Here's what we've had for dinner lately.....

I rarely use a recipe when cooking.
It's more fun to just throw together what sounds
good and what is in the refrigerator.
When I'm at the grocery, I just make sure we
have a week's supply of meat, veggies and fruit.
Are you a recipe cook or a wing-it cook?

I like how it lets you be creative. A skillet is a blank canvas, right? ha.

I thought you were going to ask where the fish and chips were! haha. Sometimes we eat bad....we love a good cheese burger...and we have pizza on Sunday nights. :)

    2. 'But of course!' is my phrase . . . . lol

I was a naughty boy tonight I had 2 battered sausages and large chips with salt and vinegar but felt obliged to include a few veggies as well . . . . I feel less guilty now I did that . . haha. . . . . . and there I was thinking you were so chaste . . . little did I know . . haha

    3. Battered sausage?????
I can't even fathom that one! hahaha!

    4. Hi Linda . . . Well they are not battered, as if being hit by a hammer . . .
Battered sausages are rather like battered fish, that is coated with super crispy batter. Batter is a liquid mixture of one or more flours made with ground grains or soaked grains that are ground. Batters are used to prepare various foods. The literal translation is "Yummy" . . . :)

    5. You have to earn the fattening meal, though.....one bad one a week is ok, I think...if you've been completely good all week!

    6. Yes I have been good all week . . . . it's only Tuesday . . . . . rofl

    7. lol . . . but I'll be good for the rest of the week . . . and no fish and chips or sausages . . . :)

    9. I did NOT think you meant battered...as in beaten....
We do battered fish here.....but SAUSAGES?

    10. They taste very nice Linda . . . . but Betsy will only let me have them once a week . . . . isn't she strict? . . . hahaha

    11. I think we all know what battered meant, we just couldn't believe it was battered sausages. I have lived on and off in England and experienced a lot of unfamiliar food, but never have I come across a battered sausage. My arteries are closing just thinking about it! :-)

    12. We used to have battered spam at school sometimes.

    13. Oh Georgina...I think I would have to pass on that.

    14. I think you are probably right. I would have too but we were always so hungry at school.

  3. It depends what I'm cooking. I haven't done much experimental cooking (when I use recipes) I'm more in survival mode these days and just glad when I get the food on the table in time for my 3 hungry young men! Maybe after we move and things settle down I can resume experiments? Incidentally 3 of my men are already out there! So not fair, eh? The rest of us are impatiently waiting for school to be over. June 4th (moving date) can't come soon enough!!

  5. OK, I'd be happy with any one of those meals....in fact all of them. So colorful, so healthy. Julie sent home several pieces of the BBQ Chicken we had Sunday, so tonight it BBQ Chicken, and I made a casserole of scalloped potatoes. Had to use up some potatoes, so I made a big one...more leftovers...HaHa. Will have to add a salad, since your's look so refreshing and good.

    2. And the avocado dip is a really good wing-it! I need to make it again. The last time I made it I added sriracha mayo which was good too. Betsy, keep the wing-its coming. :)

  8. These meals look delish! I am not really much of a cook but most of the time I wing it. I remember saying to friends, "I have nothing to eat, let's go out." They would rummage around for a bit and create a great meal. I was always so impressed. Yours are so colourful, too - they say we eat with our eyes!
