I brought this little watercolor and ink home from
the auctions last week. The colors and there
are perfect for our family room.
The week before that I bid on this gorgeous antique china
set from Bavaria. It's jaw dropping beautiful. Over
130 pieces, including some very unusual things like
leaf shaped deep sherbets and sweet little butter pats.
And now it's in the shop!
The view out the front door.
Charcoal in the violet patch.
It's the coolest spot in the yard and when
a cat lays down, they are totally submerged
in leaves....perfect for hiding as you sleep.
And here's little Star.
She looks a little rough, doesn't she?
This was her first photograph from yesterday.
I gave her a quick bath this morning with The Mister's help.
Boy, she's much stronger than her pint sized body would have
you believe! She was washed at the vet in something
very antiseptic smelling and she wasn't grooming herself.
So she got a quick wash and rinse and after lots of
hissing and growling she came back for a head rub,
so I guess we're forgiven. ha.
She was still in her bowl when I came out into the kitchen
this morning but has since felt comfortable enough to
take over the most coveted sleeping spot...the basket
on my desk in front of the nook windows.
Later today I found her in the window seat soaking
up the sunshine in the living room.
That would make any creature feel better!
She's using the litter box and eating well.
Good girl!
And in honor of having a new girl under the roof,
we'll end with some pink from the yard...
♥
Beautiful photos..... I am amazed by the green yard and flowers :) I love the new addition, thank goodness she ended up with you. Do you have your own antique shop? Janine from AZ
ReplyDeleteYes, thank goodness she did! Can't wait to see her getting better!
DeleteI have an online shop...click on the link on my sidebar to the right if you want to take a look!
I expect you'll see improvement in Star every day. She is so lucky to have landed at your home. No cat should go through what it sounds like she has had to. It's an absolute crime. She looks to be a senior cat or is it just her unhealthy state that makes her look older? Your photos today are so beautiful, Betsy.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to figure that out myself...is she old or just in terrible shape that makes her look old? She seems old to me....I guess time will tell!
DeleteDeb, I have to tell you that she kept pulls tufts of hair off her back legs...she doesn't have fleas (was treated at the vet) and there doesn't seem to be anything irritating her skin. I did an online search and it said cats will do this when they've been under great duress...it's part of coping with anxiety. Bless her heart....they said when the stress leaves, she should stop! Aw....
Yes, my granddaughter's cat goes through stages of pulling out his hair, and that's exactly what the vet diagnosed it as......stress.
DeleteHe lives the life of Riley so not sure what he's stressing about :)
~Jo
Isn't that interesting? Hopefully Star will calm down...we're going to give her the life of Riley, too! :) I'll have to put on my Dr DoLittle hat and be a kitty shrink!
DeleteWhen our Taffy died, our other cat Kramer started to pull his fur out...stress for sure! They had been together for 17 years!!
DeleteLove your new addition...She will be the "star" of the show, in no time!
Lovely photos Betsy...
Enjoy your week ahead...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Aw, poor Kramer....17 years is a long time!
DeleteIt's raining, Linda...those peonies will be laying on the ground! Good thing I took their picture already!
I was shocked to see a white Peony open here when we got home!
DeleteI also bought a couple of Zinnias! So pretty!
I must cut that Peony! I hope I don't miss them all!
I like your yard and gardens a lot. I hope to have our backyard and gardens re-made, since they were mostly removed by heavy equipment when the ivy was removed. The cat found a nice violet bed to nap in.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terra. We're having some work done to the front of the landscaping in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!
Deleteahh, I was thinking about this cat all night,, I'm so glad she is making herself at home, your dishes and watercolor are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteShe's doing very well for it all being new...including nice people. haha. She didn't have one accident...which I thought she might. She's gone to the litter box even though it's on the other end of the house....such a good girl!
DeleteI think stress causes all sorts of weird symptoms. Lots of people pull their hair out when they are unhappy so let's hope Star will feel happier soon.
ReplyDeleteLovely zinnia.
Yes, that is true...humans can do this, too. I knew someone that pulled her eyebrows and lashes out because of stress.
DeleteHopefully she'll settle in and not need that habit any longer! Shall I feed her some crisps? Maybe langoustine flavored? haha.
Aw poor little thing! But she look comfortable there!
ReplyDeleteShe's doing very well for just one day!
DeleteShe's making herself right at home. Forgot to tell you yesterday that there was a little stray wandering around the village shops where I live. Also petite and black with a star on her chest. It took some doing, but I talked one of the manager ladies into making her a store cat with, naturally, the name "Star". That was 9 yrs. ago, and she was grown then, so nowadays I no longer ask about her, because I'm afraid of what I might hear. In the beginning she was allowed to roam outside where I would sometime pick her up and sit on one of the benches, but after a while, the car traffic increased to the point that her owner was afraid she might get run over. And there was also the time we got a heavy snow and she disappeared in the crawl space under some of the shops for a few days. Everyone went into mourning thinking she was truly gone. :-) Lynne in NC
ReplyDeleteAw..what a cute story! I love that she looked the same and was named Star.
DeleteThis little girl has had a good day. :)
Little Star looks so sweet, I love that she sleeps in a bowl! Your view out the front door is beautiful, and the pink zinnia, and peonies are stunning.
ReplyDeletePat
Thanks, Pat....when I fatten her up, hopefully she won't fit in the bowl any longer! haha...
DeleteThe flowers are loving the weather right now...no big rainfalls to knock the peonies to the ground. :)
Good news about Star! I enjoyed your pictures, as always...especially Charcoal in the violet patch.😊
ReplyDeleteHe looks pretty cute there, doesn't he? :)
DeleteStar seems to have settled in very well, and using the litter box she knows her manners.
ReplyDeleteShe has BIG eyes, and a sweet face.
Your Peonies are gorgeous, I so love those flowers.
~Jo
Her eyes are huge...and right now, her very best feature. haha.
Deleteyes, she's a good girl...very well behaved.
Peonies are one of my favorites, too....much more than roses....
No birds can see a cat
ReplyDeleteWhen they duck down in that haha
Good place to hunt away
There at your bay
Star is coming around
Soon everywhere she'll be found
Shooting from here to there
All day at your lair
Oh, is that what they're doing?
DeleteTrying to catch the birds a-cooing?
Leave it to you to interpret for me
I thought they were as innocent as can be.
haha....
Star had a good day
here at her new bay.
Of course she would have rather skipped the bath
and taken the dirty fur path. haha.
lol bathing a cat is never fun
DeleteUnless Orlin is the one
He'll sit there and let you do it
Cassie will have a fit
Had to do both one time
Because Orlin peed on them in the cage after my capture and take to the other sea crime lol
Awww, pink for your new baby. I love that Star feels comfy enough to switch into a basket... and the most coveted one, at that!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful close-ups - the peony bud is amazing. I adore peonies.
Is that Slate on your front porch? What a beautiful front garden you have. Looks like a postcard.
That violet patch is the perfect hide-away. I bet all your kitties could fit under there :-)
And that Bavarian china... don't get me started! Exquisite.
Socks jumped up onto my desk and froze as if to say, "Hey, someone is sleeping in my basket!" It was kind of like a Goldilocks moment. lol....
DeleteHa! Too funny.
DeleteThat is Charcoal on the front porch! :)
DeletePoor Star - her morning was rough, but things look a lot better now. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous - your zinnia's and peonies are blooming. So pretty!
My peonies bloomed a week later than my neighbor's did...I was beginning to think mine were going to take a year off! haha. My white ones were transplanted to my blue garden a few weeks ago and they didn't bloom...how disappointing. The little buds they had just shriveled and fell off. I guess it was protesting? haha...
DeleteBeautiful acquisitions from the auction . . .and that dear little Star . . .she dies look a bit beaten up . . . hope she settles, somehow I think she will. Amazing where all your cats have come from ~ it is a s though someone has CAT-a pulted them your way . . . lol . . :)
ReplyDeleteLaughing, Eddie!
Deletelol ~ Hi Suzie . . . :)
DeleteDoes Star have a tipped ear? I wonder if she was a feral at some point. I had to say good by to my sweet black cat last week. He had been diabetic for the last eight years and then diagnosed with cancer in his jaw last October. He was always such a big boy, at one point weighing close to 19 lbs, not fat just big! Last week he was 6.6 lbs sadly. He showed up to our house in 2003 so not sure how old but vet guessed about 15. He was loved and had a good home with us. Lucky Star :)
DeleteKaren, yes...her left ear is tipped. I'm so sorry for your kitty! You did give him a good home for all those years! So hard to say goodbye, though....
DeleteI was just thinking the other day you hadn't posted anything about auction lately and wondered if you'd quit working at them :-)
ReplyDeleteNo, I still work them!... I think the Limoges Ferner earlier this month was the last time I posted something about them....
DeleteBeautiful dishes and I love the photo of the cat in the basket..so cute!
ReplyDeleteShe's still there tonight.....aw. :)
DeleteWhat a treat for the eyes this morning :-) so happy for Star settling in so well, she understood she is in a safe and loving place! I love cats too, I grew up with them, my son always begs for one, he watches the pics of your cats with me :-) but hubby has got allergies :-( I did safe a 5 weeks old kitty last Autumn while driving through a tunnel, the poor thing, I so wished to keep her, especially that our dog passed a months before that but ... We found her a nice home though. I love your peonies, I have the same in our garden, brought them from my mom's place 4 years ago, they are also this beautiful pink but imagine, they never did bloom in my garden :-( maybe next year?! haha ... Have a lovely Sunday Betsy!
ReplyDeleteHopefully next year my white ones and your pink ones will bloom! :)
DeleteBetsy, sorry for repeating myself, I am not senile just yet ... Yesterday, when I did type my comment, it did disappeared and I had no time to check on it, and I thought my comment from yesterday was gone. This morning I did not check, only after I did type the new one ... go figure ... lol. Sorry then for telling the story two times!
ReplyDeleteOh, it's ok...that story was worth reading twice! :)
DeleteHow do you have time to do all you do? I love that watercolor and ink. So beachy.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that water color pretty? It was the exact shades I just did our family room in...so nice!
DeleteBeauteous little Star she certainly is, just finished feeding miss ginger cat, she has settled in for a long spring soon to be summers nap, she cries to go outside but I am keeping her safe inside with many toys, bedding that is luxiourious and cool breezes from our new fan, she is delighted..Now our other cats cry over the fact another kitteh has come to stay, but they are spoiled and have two rooms to theirselves without others and our main bedroom they are tiny bedrooms are off limits because my hubs sneezes too much from their fur, but he is loving and kind to all the kitteh cats..Love the painting and love your home..Hope your boys and your hubs and you have a nice weekend and give your little sweet angel of a kitteh cat Star hubs and smooches from our home to yours! CiaqXXX()()()()()XXXXX
ReplyDeleteWe have had a really nice weekend....very relaxing. Our calendar was clear to stay home and make sure Star settled in ok. The others are doing great with her!
DeleteTwinkle, twinkle, Little Star...
ReplyDeleteI've missed hanging out with my bloggie friends this week.
We've missed you, too!
DeleteLittle Star...Lucky Star...we're calling her all those things. She sure is a sweet little thing.
Boy, I go away for the weekend and miss the new addition. Star looks very nice. How many kitties do you have now? Your peonies are a few weeks ahead of mine. I love them, always a reminder of my days in Chicago.
