Peaches

Look who I found peaking around the boxwood
last evening!

I called him and he gave me a big hiss before
settling down to eat some food.
I said, "I know, I deserved that." haha.

His face didn't look any better but he sniffed less.
He was thinner but was more alert and moved faster
so I'm hoping he is starting to feel better.
He got a time released, long acting antibiotic injection
so I hope it's working to make him well.
See Jack?  Jack does not like the idea of
Peach coming in our yard!  I had to give him a
few swats while he acted up like a silly rebellious
teenager and was vying for my attention.  Geesh!

Peach ate and quickly left, but I did see him back on the porch a
little later so we've made some progress.  The first trip back is
probably the hardest.  He was leery but probably pleasantly
surprised I didn't have any tricks up my sleeve. :)
I rewarded him with some rotisserie chicken
when he came back the second time.
Shameless bribery, you know. ha.

  1. Jack is probably jealous of the chicken treats. He thinks his mama is showing favoritism to a stranger who hasn't earned it. :-) So glad to hear he came back a 2nd time in the same night. What a pretty yard! Lynne in NC

    1. Lynne, he was SO jealous. I've never seen him act quite that pitifully. He was rolling around between me and Peaches and trying to knock his food bowls away. He'll just have to learn that there is always room for one more and he was the down-and-out one just a short 2 years ago!

    2. Did you notice how you can see Peache's bones? I want to fatten him up!

    3. Tthat's partly because he stopped coming around for food for the past few days.

    4. Yes...I'm sure.....I wish he would come here every day. I really saw a big difference in him the time he came 4-5 days in a row....then it became sporadic again when the cage was on the porch. He knew...I think.....makes me think he's had a history with a cage before. At least now the bad stuff is over and coming here only means good things. :)

  2. Cats are territorial so they'll be trying to decide which rung of the ladder they're sitting (or standing) on.
I'm so glad the poor boy came back. He's going to be looking a little bit better every day.

    1. Some seem indifferent to him and some feel their status will be bumped. haha...and then Tiger is just petrified of him and runs inside. I've never seen them act this way. They were all excepting of Slate except Marmy was slightly bent out of shape, but they are fine together now.
Time will tell....hopefully he'll come around more often...I think that would help a lot!

  4. I'm happy that Peaches has returned, did they shave his back and rear end ? Looks like his fur has been shaved ?
Once he knows the cat in the box trick is no more, I think he'll start showing up on a regular basis.
    Thank you for caring.

    1. No,..but strangely, it does look that that in the photos. He only has a bit shaved under his tail from the neutering.

  5. I think it was the position of his body versus his lowered head that mad his fur look shaved.
    Sorry.

    1. I think so, too...it does look flat and smooth, though, and fluffy around his shoulders!

  6. I'm loving the Peaches Saga....And Jack...what a crack up. Doesn't he know you have room in your heart for all of them. Or does he want to be your "favorite". HaHa. You yard looks so pretty and green...remembering the "snow scenes" a few months back.

  7. So pleased he has returned and he does look very thin doesn't he?
I hope he settles in and the other cats begin to accept him, especially Jack.
Time will certainly help now with Peaches and no more cages . . .
How about a little cat basket on the porch . . . oh but other cats might occupy it . . . :)
    It's all turning into a delightful story . . . and one hopefully with a happy ending (or beginning) . . . :)

    1. There is a nice warm heating pad wrapped in a towel on a chair out there.....I've seen a few feral cats there
on cold winter nights, including Peach. If he stays around, I'd let him inside. He needs to listen to me! haha....

    2. I recently read a book called "A Street Cat named Bob". A true story of a cat found to be in a bad way by a man who lived in squalor himself and how they helped each other to get back on the road to fame and fortune. Have you read it? I think Betsy should, the story is similar to Peaches story.

    3. I'll have to look that story up!

    4. It's been made into a film on YouTube, with Bob playing himself!

    1. I was a little disappointed his face didn't look better....but he had that infection a good long time...months and months, so it only makes sense that it would take more than a few days to clear up! I was very relieved to see him though....even with the hiss. :)

  9. Save him some salmon....he's so gonna love you! Your yard is so pretty. Love the hostas.

  11. Prodigal Peaches

A cheer goes up from far and wide
As Peaches returns, “Hurray, they cried!”
They followed this saga from each blog place
Wondering if they’d spy his poor wee face

Now that he’s been to visit the vet
We hope he’ll become a loving pet
I’m sure the others will help him out
Even if Jack is a bit of a lout

Dear Betsy waits on patient feet
To reward sweet kitty with chicken meat
Her devotion and love of cats abound
It’s no wonder they keep coming ’round!

  12. Aww- maybe they will be great friends, eventually. :) I'm glad he came back..that means he trusts you.

  13. So glad Peaches is back and eating. Pretty natural that he is hesitant. Hope he feels more comfortable every day! I am working on fattening up my almost 15 yo cat. She always has been slight but her thyroid ran amok and getting that evened out has been some work. She is finally gaining though and boy am I relieved. Just a problem I never had for myself!

  15. I can't see Jack! Where?
So glad Peach is back....well...you know what I mean...
The bee thingy is to attract pollen bees to your garden....
I need to find and read the pamphlet again...I may have left it at the cottage!
Google it and see...it is quite interesting!
    Have a great evening...
    Cheers!

  19. Loving this story Betsy and that Peaches has someone who loves him. Where I go to auctions, the auctioneer takes care of all these "wild" cats. He has a heart big as a barn. There were some new kittens and I came so close to bringing one home. I hope you will make the shell wreath....I spent a fabulous week collecting tons of shells to make wreaths. Make sure you use heavy duty glue as the shells make the wreath very heavy. :)

    1. Your auctioneer and I must be related. :)

      Lynn, you'd love my shell mirror...take a look ....

Yes, I'll use super heavy glue....and I already have a million shells to choose from, thanks to my ever growing collection...haha.
I'm thinking it would be so nice on the front door for the summer! My door is sheltered from most weather, so I think it would be
      fine there. Can't wait!

  22. I know exactly what you mean about "acting up like a silly rebellious teenager", Dinky doesn't like me fussing Henry when he visits. He gets spat at, and so do I if I try to reassure her that I still love her! Then she doesn't "speak" to me for a day or two, until I put some chicken out for her. That's different. . .

I love the last picture, it reminds me of the old cowboy films when the hero rides away into the sunset as "The End" fades in. I sincerely hope it's not the end of Peaches visits, and she becomes a permanent member of the household staff!

Now I'm off to read all your posts that I've missed through being away.

  24. So..... what I've been trying to ask you is are you sure that Peaches is gone for a week or is he just hiding nearby? Our wild Booboo Kitty can seem to be gone for up to a week but then we will see her several days in a row. We leave food for her outside because we can't get anywhere near her. BTW, love your green yard/garden, so beautiful and inviting!!! :) Janine in AZ

    1. Well, I don't think he's within hearing distance from me because can call and he will come running from another yard...that got to be a pretty normal thing for him and he runs right up to my feet. Also, if I wasn't out, he would just lounge on the back porch or look through the back door....so I'm guessing he isn't close. But who knows! He doesn't act the same since I trapped him....I think I lost all the trust I had built up to get him in that carrier. :(
