In The Autism World Lately

Spencer has this thing about jackets being zipped
all the way up to your chin!  And not just his own,
but his brother's jackets, too!

I snapped these photos on two different mornings last week.
As we waited for the bus, he did his usual routine
of zipping everyone all the way up!

As you can see, Harry is compliant as always, standing
like a little soldier while Spencer does it.  Harry and Alex just
know Spencer has to have his way and they usually oblige.

  1. lol, what handsome young men,, I love that the brothers comply so patiently,
our Gracie has to clear all surfaces, thats her " thing ", no toss pillows on sofa . no pictures on tables, lol, swoosh, she clears them all, she is a bit more careful now and gently moves things saying, Its OK Nana ? as she moves them, lol, but it is an over whelming urge for her,
as you always say, because we live with Autism,, I think of that often,

    1. That is so cute that she asks if it's ok! haha...Aw. Oh, if my boys would talk, I'd love it. Alex has to have everything just so as far as things sitting out. I'll have to do a post about his routine next time! :)

    1. Well, maybe...but I think it's just an obsession of his. Very funny to watch!

  3. I like when you post about the boys. I would constantly be wondering what is in their thoughts. I love how patient they are being with Spencer. I guess, as they say on Star Trek, "resistance is futile!" But I find it sweet. Are they getting any more comfy with Slate in their bed? I know Alex is the one who is more tolerant of that. Smiling.

    1. The other day Slate was laying on the couch with Alex as he watched tv. Kind of cute. :) They don't all leap out of bed when he jumps up there now but I take him out before I close the door. He still tries....it's so sweet, if they only knew how much he wanted to be with them! Sometimes when they are in their room on their computers, he right there, walking on their desks. ha.

  5. Oh, this is of course priceless! Your ears may have been burning Sunday evening ... I spent time with a few of my 'neighbor ladies' one of them a retired special education teacher. Through the years she taught many autistic children, with a wide range of abilities. I told her about your family, how much I respect all of you!! She is new to our little town home neighborhood and had seen Carl walking up and down our street to and from work and wondered who he was ... she found his 'story' kind of fascinating.

    1. Well, your neighbor will come to learn how awesome you are...and Carl! She sounds fascinating herself....

    1. Well, Harry has a strong gag reflex, so I'm really surprised he tolerates Spencer doing this! haha...

    1. yeah, and some times they are too hot
but never think to take off the lot.
At least it's warm enough this week
to leave the jackets home with me!

  8. That is so sweet. I too love your post on the (boys) young and handsome men. I read Laurie's comment, and have wondered how hard it must be not to hear them talk and have a verbal conversation. They communicate...that's for sure. Love you stories of that. Love your family...what an inspiration.

    1. I give just about anything for them to be able to talk....it's by far the hardest thing about this! They don't even consistently answer yes or no questions, so we've learned to read them in others ways.

  9. Oh Betsy....these always touch me...your boys are so special....I have to echo Wanda, in praise of Laurie's comment♥️
    Your life truly inspires me....
Thank you for letting me share it....
Enjoy dinner with the big kids...
    Cheers!

    1. Thanks, Linda...we just do what we have to do for our kids, don't we? And ask God to help....couldn't do it alone, that is for sure!

Dinner was nice...grilled steaks with potatoes, onions and fresh green beans in a bacon drizzly sauce. Fresh fruit. Yum.

It's warm here today 85F! what on earth! I bought some flowers for the porches and hung a new bird house this afternoon.
Got freckles on my nose! ha.

    1. I'm glad they have each other. :) They are inseparable. Alex was sick Tuesday and stayed home. You should have seen Spencer sprint off the bus and into the house. I'm thinking it was more to see what Alex has messed with than it was the he missed him, though, haha... And Alex did have a wonderful day controlling the laptops, tv and dvd player...lol....things Spencer always controls.

  11. What a joy!! And what a strong woman you are... I honestly don't know how I could survive without hearing my child speak.... but now that they are grown, sometimes they speak more than they should. LOL

    1. haha....when Taylor was a teen and would talk back, sometimes I would say, "You know, your brothers never talk to me like that!" lol.....He would roll his eyes and say, "Mom!"
