Random Thoughts

  1. My little miniature rose bush is hanging on, even though it's winter and it has to live inside in the dry air.  It even gave me a tiny, sweet bloom today.  The dust mites are trying to kill it, but so far I've been able to drown them in a kitchen sink shower each week.
  2. I'm the only one in this house that can take their socks off, keeping them right side out.  I thought maybe you had to fold laundry to teach yourself the importance of this proactive ritual, but when the mister folded laundry for me when I was at the hospital with Spencer, he folded socks and left them wrong side out. ha.  He also put my socks in the boys closet and my jammies in their dresser! :)
  3. Anybody have a Fitbit?  I've had mine 4 days now and love it.
  4. I've had 6 couple cardinals at the feeder today!  I guess Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal were having a dinner party!
  5. The boys actually went to their day program today.  They only went one day last week due to the negative wind chills.  We haven't had a full week of 'school' since before Christmas break!  The Farmer's Almanac predicted an extremely cold winter and I think we would have to admit that they were right!  Now some are predicting a baby boom this October. ha.

Thanks to all who participated in my RAK adventure the last two
weeks!  Only two more weeks to go!
Spread some kindness this week and be prepared to
share and inspire the rest of us here on Friday!

    1. The correct way to wash socks, and jeans, is to turn them inside out. That best way you get rid of the stink! Est-ce pas?

    2. If you did laundry for six, you wouldn't want everything turned inside out, believe me! And how do the dirty knees on the jeans get clean if they are inside out?

yes, you may have the rose. Will you put it behind your ear or between your teeth? haha.

  2. The teachers I work with have already discussed the baby boom. I am sure it will happen!

  5. Oh the sock saga. Don is so good about turning his and I do mine too. But my son, his boys and Jill's husband Jaya have a different idea. It started with Jaya telling the guys that the seam hurts you feet and if you wear your sock inside out, the seam is on the outside and doesn't hurt your feet in your shoes... So they all fell for it. HaHa.

Your sweet little pink rose is precious. What is a fibit??

    1. Jaya should have to do laundry for life for that! haha.

A fitbit is a bracelet that counts your steps and monitors your heart rate. You can sync it to your computer or phone and it keeps track of how many calories you've eaten, burned, number of glasses of water you've drank...even how well you sleep each night. Kind of fun!

  6. I have a Fitbit One and love it! I've lost 30lbs. of post-op weight (from feeling horrible & having no energy to move whatsoever) Enjoy your Fitbit - they're great!

    1. Wow...that is just awesome, Marla! Good for you! This just clicks with me..I love all the data and gauges on the dashboard...it's great incentive. I spent a good hour figuring out how many calories I burn doing housework, lifting weights, etc, too, so I think I'm pretty accurate at what I'm logging. It really makes you think before you take a bite of something, doesn't it? haha. The sleep graph is interesting, too. It's just fun all the way around. Glad to hear someone else loves theirs!

    2. The dashboard data is definitely a huge incentive. It makes me want to surpass my daily miles walked, calories burned, etc!

I'm currently about 2 miles from Cleveland. It's as cold here as it is in Indiana but there was a lot more snow at my house!

    3. Yes, a huge incentive!

      I'm about 30 minutes east of Dayton...about 3 hours from Cleveland. :)

  8. my grandson lives in Michigan and he has missed so mush school due to the cold temperatures, they don't close schools here due to cold, I don't know why. Your rose is beautiful and I am so glad it found the strength and courage to bloom, lol, its safe in the warm house, I don't know what a Fitbit is , I live beneath a rock, of this I am certain, lol,

    1. Most schools here just delay 2 hours with the wind chills but the boys' day program closes. I think it's for all the wheel chair clients...just can't run from the house into the bus and in the 5-10 minutes it takes to wheel them down to the street and get all strapped to the bus floor, they could get frost bite. It's been an interesting few months to say the least. haha.

How about folding the underwear inside out! Geesh!
I taught all my kids how to do laundry....and iron! I think my son irons his gals clothes!
    Lovely rose....worth all the effort♥️
I guess my Cardinals are wondering where the heck I am!
    Enjoy your week...

    2. Maybe that's why you have so many cardinals, Betsy - they have abandoned Linda and are visiting you until she returns!

    3. Haha...yes, I'm sure that's it! Not any warmer, but someone is home to fill the feeders!

  12. Haha, too funny about the socks! Sometimes if the habit seems to be picking up again and I get tired of turning them right side out I leave them as they are. Kind of in hopes that it will alert them to the fact that this isn't as much fun as it looks! lol. Usually works pretty good for a while. More than one way to get a point across and no nagging! Ha

Lovely color on that sweet rose!

    1. I do agree about the nagging...it doesn't work anyway! ha. I leave the mister's wrong side out....he can do it himself while he gets dressed, I think! The boys, though, need help, so I have to do it either way.

I know..lovely rose! Looks especially nice during all this winter!

    2. I understand. You are a wonderful Mother to those sweet young men! Blessings to all of you today!

It's sunny and cold in Lancaster Co. and 'my' bluebirds are singing occasionally. Maybe the sun makes them feel like Spring is near. :) One can always hope!

  13. That rose is absolutely perfect - and what a delicate, soft pink. Makes me a little warmer looking at it. Was in and out all day in -35C weather. At one point I almost just stayed in the store I was in because I could not face the cold one more time. I was wondering if they'd have let me camp out overnight. Ha! But then when I got home I decided to treat myself at one of our restaurants in the Distillery and I had saffron mussels and bangers and mash. An odd combo, I know, but it was so good and made me feel warm inside. I have been thinking about a Fitbit... which model did you get?

    1. I got the Flex. It's waterproof so you can wear it to shower, etc...perfect. And I splurged and got a Tory Burch bracelet to hold it if I don't want to gave the casual rubber one around my wrist. You should get it....its amazing!

  14. The rose is beautiful . . . . perfect
Had to laugh at number 3 . . . lol . . . he is not perfect because he is only a man . . . . lol. Did you tell him off? lol
    Don't know what a Fitbit is . . .
Love seeing Mr and Mrs Cardinal when you photograph them . . . :)

  15. Beautiful photo, Betsy. I love the little miniature roses... I just can't seem to keep them alive. The mites! Dreaded creatures. I have had my fitbit for awhile and really like having it to keep me thinking of getting my steps. Word to the wise... use wooden toothpick to clean the dots to charge it.
I know just what you mean about the socks! Ha!

    1. The steps don't mean that much to me, really. I walked 4 miles just doing my regular routine here in the house yesterday! Lol! The part that is good for me is seeing the calories eaten vs. the calories burned.

  16. Pretty rose, and inside is wonderful so that you can see it every day. I've been looking at fitbit..right now just using a step counter. Have a warm day!

I really hope I can keep this rose alive ...it will be so happy to move outside in the summer!

  17. The way I fold socks leaves them looking inside out (unless you start with sock 1 inside out). Put your hand into sock 1 so the heel is in your palm. Put sock 2 across your palm. Hold on tight to sock 2 and pull sock 1 down off your wrist so it draws up sock 2 into a neat little package. I like to store my socks in my sock drawer so they are all the same size. I learned to do this at a job I had in 1980! Can the Chef get it right? Of course not. He makes all socks into fat little balls. But at least he knows who owns which socks.

I started walking to work last autumn. I suppose I was lazy before and just walked 5 minutes to the bus stop but now I do a brisk 20 minute walk first thing. Except when it is far too rainy and then if there is a bus handy I will catch it. It has made a big difference to my waistline. It would make a bigger difference if I could eat more vegetables and less cheese I expect.

    1. yes...less cheese and less crisps! lol...But then, what fun would that be? Yes, walking is so good for us. We all need to do more of it!

The Mister folds socks into balls, too! I can't take it. lol. I fold like you but just the tops folded down to hold them together. Funny how everyone has their own way!
