Random Acts Of Kindness Adventure 2015 Week 1

I hope you had a chance to do something random
and kind for another human being this week.
I'm excited to see who participates after quite a few
people said they were joining in!

On my weekly grocery trip this week I arrived as usual,
parked my Jeep and began walking through the parking lot
toward the store.  An older man was walking very slowly
and stopped as I walked by.  I thought maybe he was
checking his pockets like he forgot something and
went on past him.  When I was getting my cart and about
to go into the store, there he was again, walking extremely
slow and then stopping.  He looked like he
was trying to get to the mobile carts
that have the battery powered scooter attached.

He didn't look good and seemed almost in distress.
Half a dozen people walked past him but I thought I'd check
on him.  I left my cart and went over to him and waited for him
to make eye contact.

"Are you ok?" I asked.

"Yes, I'm ok.  I'm always like this."

"Are you sure?  I'd be happy to help."

"I think I'll be alright, really."

I was thinking he looked like he was going to drop and
I was already planning in my mind to call for help and
start CPR. haha.  My certificate has expired, but I'm
pretty sure I could remember what to do.

But he stayed upright and I made sure he got into
his scooter cart ok.  He managed a smile and seemed
appreciative that anyone had noticed him at all.
He declined my offer to shop with him.
I didn't have any other plans that day and certainly
had the time.  But he went on his way and thanked me.

No, I didn't take his picture. haha.
But I hope he felt like someone cared enough to stop and ask.

*******

Today I spent some time in the kitchen.
I made this beautiful swirly fudge!
The recipe is on Chris' blog and you can
see it here.

I made it so The Mister, the boys and I could take it to our
respective places on Friday...work, day program and an auction.

I hope our friends and coworkers enjoy it!

It's always sweet to bring sweets, isn't it? ha.

The link will be open until Saturday evening!
And then we'll meet back here next week.
Same time, same station.

  1. I always wonder what it will be like when I have to move slow and the world flies past as if I don't even exist. I hope the man went home smiling and encouraged.
That fudge looks like fun! Is it raspberry? Strawberry? Cherry?
    :0)

    1. I hope he was. At least he seemed to be. :)

Yes, strawberry...although I couldn't taste the strawberry. Very pretty, though and yummy...it has vanilla bean paste in it. Scrumptious. I'd call it vanilla with pink swirls. haha.

    2. Martha - I know what it's like to be bumped, knocked and jostled now by fast moving people, especially in the supermarket. It's not nice. Due to arthritis I can only walk slowly with the aid of a stick. I'm beginning to dread going out now.

    3. I do my best not to bump and jostle other folks, Keith. I hope that your next outing comes with a RAK for you. Wouldn't that be cool?

  2. Ooooh, your fudge looks good. But I'm on a low sugar kick right now, so I'm going to look the other way. I'm working on my RAK blog tonight. I've never linked up to a blog before, so I hope I do it right. Do I just post the link to my blog here on this post...in your comments section?

    1. You just click on the little blue box that says "Add Your Link". The URL you will want to use is for the post, not the general one for your blog. To get that just click on your post title and the url will show up at the top of your screen! Thanks, Laurie! Looking forward to your post...although, I'm still laughing at your last entry! lol...

    2. BTW, you're a rock star! To be willing to stay as long as it took to help the man with his shopping.....that's awesome.

      Delete
    3. Oh, it wouldn't have taken long. Long shopping is me filling up the cart for my men for a week. haha.

  3. The fudge looks yummy! You are a kind soul, Betsy, and I bet that man felt your compassion. :)

    1. Well, I hope he did. It was such a small thing and only took a minute, but that's what RAKs are...little kindnesses to let others know that they matter. :) The fudge is yummy. I've eaten too many 'scraps' from the pan this afternoon!

    2. Terri - It could have been me Betsy helped, I would have been over the moon! Except that I'm 3,821.5 miles away! (give or take a yard). Isn't life cruel. . . . . .*sigh*

    3. I suppose, Keith, that you would have taken my offer and had me walk around helping with your shopping, right? haha. And you know I would have been glad to do it. I suppose for my efforts, you'd give me a few lessons on duck fat and such. :)

  4. Hi Betsy:)
Managed my first RAK helping with others a young Rumanian girl with two children.

Love your very kind act to the old gentleman. i bet it made him feel good that someone bothered to help him. Glad you remember your CPR, 2 breaths and 30 compressions . . . . repeat . . . . :)
    Love the swirly fudge ~ bet that puts a smile on a few faces . . . . . you really are an angel . . . . :)

    1. How very nice! Was this on the bus this week? I'll come have a read after dinner. Love of love being spread this week...that makes me smile!

I think our CPR is different! Hmmm....oh well, it's still compressions and breaths.

    2. No, I guess it's 30 to 2. I was thinking 10 to 2!

    3. Yes (it used to be 15:2 here but changed about 8 years ago to 30:2) . . . .but it seems same thing in US . . . . .I did not know you were a first aider . . .:)
Is there no end to your talents?
No, I know her quite well and have been giving for about 6 months.
      She knows I drive a bus and i always hoot when I drive past her . . . :)

    4. Yes, I figured it out when I read your post...I remember you talking about her! Very, very nice. Good for you and all involved.

No end to my talents, no. haha. :)

Hoot? Owls hoot. Buses honk. At least in the USA, they do. lol....

      Delete
    5. lol . . . . . see what you mean . . . . must be funny to you.
      Yes we honk too . . . . . and we also 'toot' our horns . . . . :)
      An American lady once called me "A cute hoot!" . . . . . . lol

  5. That was so kind of you - I am sure that he is still thinking about it. It's so easy to pass humanity by, isn't it? We get immersed in our own busy worlds and although it can sometimes only take a few seconds or minutes to help... we just carry on. I will post mine tomorrow - Part 1 of it just happened now. So excited!
Oh... and YUM to the swirly fudge... that's another RAK for you too!

  8. What you did was fantastic, Betsy. I live in an area where there are many seniors, and a lot of them flock to a grocery store I go to (just to get in and out fast, as it's so small). I'm always hurried and their mobility is challenged. I am always wanting to help them, and I do and have. It's a good feeling. They need the help, attention and kindness.

I'm glad the link is open for a few days. I already posted today (and thank you for your nice comment!!), but I will be back probably Sunday. I hope I will be reaping the great feelings of doing something kind enough to link up! :)

  10. I'm with Martha in your first comment. So good that you stopped and checked. But you've reminded me of a chap in a mobility scooter in a town near us, who seems to drive the damn thing AT people, challenging them not to get out of his way; he's a very angry man!

    1. haha...I have seen a few flying in those scooters MUCH faster than anyone could ever walk! The really should have a driver's license to have one! haha. I'd stay out of his way, too!

    2. I have been seriously thinking of getting a mobility scooter. I want one with a souped up motor capable of at least 20 mph. I'm sick of dodging the damn things, I only have a walking stick and I find that i have to try and jump out of the way of some of them. Same in the supermarket, they whizz up and down the aisles, narrowly missing me them have the temerity to ask me to reach something down from the top shelves for them! I tell them to get an assistant because I'm not wearing my RAK cap at the time!

    3. Get a helmet to go along with it and some extra thick bumpers. Maybe a cow catcher on the front and a big horn? haha.

So I decided to move to that space my OH's car that was parked distant.
No metter if it was snowing and cold :-)
He was in office so he didn't suspect anything.
When he arrived home, late in the afternoon, he was very happy to find the car so close to our home, ready for the mornig after.

  20. As I don’t have a blog I am posting my RAK here in the comments section. My friend Vanessa makes beautiful bath products – all natural and beautifully scented. So I purchased six heart-shaped bath bombs from her to give as little treats to people for Valentine’s Day. Three I gave away tonight (Friday) at a Mardi Gras concert. I gave one each to two of my best friends and one went to the wife of one of the band members that played. I did not know her but we sat together at a little reception after the concert and we had a wonderful conversation. At the end of it I knew I wanted her to have one and she was so pleased. She said she was going to use it as soon as she got home! The other three I am going to give away today – Valentine’s Day – to random people I meet in the course of my day. Fun!

    1. This is a tri fold RAK! Haha. First, you bought items from your friend...always a great thing to do to support someone's little home business! Then the recipients get that first gift of surprise and warmth when they get the pretty little thing. And later, another gift comes with that relaxing hot bath! So much fun...and I know you enjoyed being the giver, too! Love it! Thanks for sharing...this is a great entry. I might do something like that this coming week with a stash ready to go. I liked the Hershey Hug attached to the little notes in the inspiration post. That would be really fun.

  24. I love the idea of rak and I did do something but I don't have shots nor a story to go with it. The neighbor lost her son and we had taken cupcakes over to cheer her a little while he was still alive. I appreciate that you are helping others to be aware of teaching such a Godly principle.
