Spring Tease

American Robin, the iconic symbol of spring here in the Midwest!
Of course spring is a long way off, but it was a bit warmer today
with only patches of snow remaining on the ground.
And melted snow in the bird bath, too!
We aren't bringing out the flip flops just yet, though.
We usually have snow through March and sometimes into April.

    2. That last comment didn't come out the way I intended it to. What I was trying to say your robins are probably a variation of ours that have developed since they were probably imported my the early settlers.

    3. Our robins are big and eat bugs and worms and associated with spring. Yours are cute, little and associated with Christmas! I'm surprised they share a name!

    4. Ours eat bugs and worms too, and they can be nasty vicious little so-and-so's. Our little robin even dives at the local cats! Methinks he is pushing his luck somewhat.

    5. No kidding? Then why do they grace all of your Christmas cards? haha.

  2. Did somebody say flip flops? Hahaha!
Great photo....Robins are almost as gorgeous as the Cardinals♥️
British Robins are tiny and cute...right Eddie?
    Enjoy your evening....cold here.....brrrrr
    Cheers!

    2. British Robins are very cute and of course a lot smaller than your's but they are very brave and inquisitive and take earthworms from the back of your hand sometimes.

I think high heels may be better at this time of year Linda . . . . . .lol

  3. Robins are a sure sign of Spring's impending arrival here in the South also..... and I have NOT seen one yet. Well... I guess if I looked harder I'm sure they are here... it was a balmy 68F degrees today!!! YEP... my bones warmed up nicely. Much more of this and I'll really get Spring Fever. But the weatherman just told us we could get snow flurries by Tuesday..... hope not!

    1. It used to be that we didn't see a robin until it really was spring but now we have a few that stay through the winter. If it wasn't for the crab apples, I don't think they would survive since they don't eat suet or seed! It was in the 40's today and sunny, but we started off the day with some hail! haha. We've had a little bit of everything today!

  4. We're having the same January thaw as you! Sounds like it's going to change back to normal later in the week, though.

    1. Yeah, I hear more snow and wintry weather is on it's way!

  5. Look at him - he's so handsome! Yes, we always associate spring with robins too, and I don't think I have seen any around. I had forgotten that they don't eat seed or suet. I wonder if they would if they were hard-pressed. He looks especially fetching with the blue glass.

And it looks like he was able to get a drink. They say you should always have fresh water available if you are feeding birdies... must be hard in the winter when it can freeze over. Great shots!

We had a couple milder days but it's back to being cold now. I just want some snow! Is that too much to ask? :-)

    1. Yes, he did have a nice, long drink. No bath, though. Smart birdie.

    Too sad.

    1. Your feet would freeze. You'll have to be happy with toe cleavage for a little while longer. :)

    2. Someone, seems determined to get frost bite wearing those flip flops . . . . . lol

    3. I'm not about to go out in flip flops today!
      It's only 4 degrees Fahrenheit.

    4. Wow...we're in the 30's...I wonder if your cold weather is going to blow down here!

    5. Looks like we're forecast to warm up a little from here. Maybe it was just one of those starless nights in which all the heat goes through the hole in the sky.
Still not flip flop weather though.

  7. So beautiful in that red vest, and the blues in the birdbath. I was laughing at Linda's remark about flip flops...you really will have toe cleavage there...HaHa. I wore flip flops the other day when I went down to do laundry.

  8. Nice shots of the robin ~ your's are bigger and better than our's . . . . . lol
They might just as well be another species, well in fact they are.
Both varieties are very appealing in their own way but our's seem to have got the Christmas Card image . . . . :)

  9. I have a feeling that robin will be freezing his little behind off if he doesn't go back south soon. I'm sure you will get more of your beloved snow.

    1. Haha...I'm quite sure of it, too! I heard a winter storm was coming ...not sure if Ohio was included in it, though. You need more snow for sledding, don't you? :)

  10. Last year we had robins all through the winter, this year they have disappeared. Lovely to see yours, pretty shots.

  13. Robins are ready
    For spring to come steady
    With that we agree
2 more months and winter will flee, hopefully

  14. "Spring tease'..we had a robin sitting on our pear tree this morning. We never see that in the dead of winter. Just like a breath of spring. Love the insulators in the bird bath.

  15. Oh happy day! Spring!!!
Wait...it's only the end of January! It's still cold here.
    I got all excited.
Yes, you are a tease but I understand. If I saw a Robin I would report it too!

  17. I had to read through the comments to see if that picture was from this year. I don't think robins stay here in Wisconsin, maybe a bit farther north than Ohio? I start looking in March and am thrilled to see them! These are great photos!

    1. I just took them yesterday. Until last year we never saw a robin until it was spring...and it truly was the sign that spring really had arrived! This year we have had this one ...he never left after the fall! haha.
