Staying Close

Today was the first day of Christmas break for the boys.

This was the sweetest thing I saw...Slate, always wanting
to be close to them, was snuggled down on top of Spencer's
beloved train papers.  There were three laptops and one DVD
blasting train related music and stories but that didn't bother him.
He just wanted to be there.

Some of you may remember that he always wants to
snuggle into bed with them at night, too.
Let's just say they don't return the love.
It's obvious they didn't inherit their mother's love of animals. ha.
So, that was the sweetest thing.

The worst thing was trying to do laundry and finding that
Spencer kept turning the washer off before the cycle was
complete.  I guess the sound of the spin cycle down the
hall was impeding on the life sized sound of steam engines
roaring through their bedroom. lol.

  1. Slate is putting those piles of paper to good use. So long as he doesn't decide to shred them, perhaps the boys will let him stay.

    1. Spencer kept pointing to Slate with his eyes when I came in the room, which was his way of saying, "Get that cat off my papers!" haha.

    2. Are those Tootsie Pops I see laid out in a row?
Fourteen of them! What flavor? Grape?

      Delete
    3. haha...yes..grape. The red and brown ones get eaten. The grape ones go in a row, along with orange. Then when the favorites are gone, Spencer will eventually eat the grape ones. The orange ones never get eaten. haha.

    4. I like the rare orange Tootsie Pop.

    5. I eat them since there are always some left! ha.

  2. Aw - Slate will not be deterred! So warm and cosy in a paper nest.

  3. He surely does love the guys, he wants to be in their midst no matter what the noise :)
I'm smiling as I look at those mounds of papers, it reminds me of my veterinary friend who stacked mile-high vet journals throughout his office, whenever the cats chose to sit on top of them they would all slide sideways and topple over.

    1. Oh, that is funny...and here I thought our house was the only one! Our stacks are due to autism, though, not vet skills. haha.

  4. Funny how cats often seem to want to be close to those who don't necessarily welcome them. An evangelist cat, perhaps, intent on getting everyone to appreciate cats.

    1. No, Spencer wasn't happy. He wasn't upset, but he did want Slate to get down and he didn't want to touch him to make him move! haha.

As all the train noises are about

  11. How touching that Slate really loves them and such a shame they cannot return his love . . . . . I am very moved by this . . . . There is a lot more going on in animals such as emotion than we simply don't give them credit for . . . . . . .

Shame about the washing machine being switched off . . . . although I was tempted to have a little smile at visualising Mamma Betsy jumping up and down with steam coming out of her ears . . . . lol . . . :)

    1. haha...oh, no I didn't yell and I really don't have a temper. But I did give a little lecture. I ended it with saying, "If you don't like the noise of the washer, then you shut your door!" To which Spencer promptly closed the door! haha.

  12. Slate is precious. I have a feeling the cats may win them over one day!
I'm with the boys - I never eat orange suckers either! Grape, I love!

  13. I think jennyfreckles is right; Slate wants to be there BECAUSE the boys give him the cold shoulder.

Will you be doing your laundry at night after everyone else has gone to bed?

    1. haha...no, they must live with the laundry! They can close their bedroom door!

  14. cutest. picture. ever. . . Oh, Slate- you are such a sweetie!

Betsy- I love seeing your boys' room. My youngest was that kind of train fanatic for years- from 2 and on for years . . . I know all about those train videos and their music. And I totally miss them! Especially the winter one that was all scenes of trains going through snow- ha, you probably have it! ;) Not to mention train magazines and endless pictures of layouts . . . I was so sad when he stopped loving trains. It happened immediately one day when his older brother told him trains were 'for babies'. After that, he renounced them. :( Thing is, he STILL lights up whenever a train goes by. I brings me joy!

    1. They do have a few winter ones and another is here to give them for Christmas. Too bad your son gave it up...it really is a hobby that lasts a lifetime. Since my boys with their autism don't 'get' what is socially acceptable, they don't know that some are for babies, like Thomas the Tank Engine, and they still love those stories and DVDs. We have all the brio trains and track, too, although they did loose interest in it. I should bring it out and see if they would like to build a layout again. Even I enjoyed that!

  15. Slate is a neat cat. He doesn't know that he can be disliked. I am waiting for the day when some of those guys learn to relate to any cat. It is a good story with slate on top of all those train papers.

    1. Yes, he is totally oblivious that someone wouldn't want him around. haha. Most of our cats are like that and snuggle down in our laps at the most inconvenient times. :)

Certainly makes the laundry longer than needed.....
Love your stories of the boys.....and Slate too!
    Enjoy your evening....

    2. Funniest story like that was my mom sending my dad to the store for a can of Eagle Brand milk. She said it had a picture of Elsie the Cow on it. He came home with Carnation Evaporated milk with a picture of a pink carnation on it! Yes, it is a man thing for sure. Haha.

    3. The worst thing about the washer was that he didn't just stop it. He turned the dial around so that I couldn't just let it resume where it was interrupted. I had to put in new soap and start again! Lol

  19. That is pretty darned sweet. My son collected maps and police car photos so I get all the papers. DS used to get 'map restriction' when he got in trouble. Son is a police officer and daughter is a map maker. Go figure? (she is currently unemployed if anyone needs a really smart women that does GIS work) I love that your young men are into trains. Who doesn't enjoy those?
