Random Thoughts

from my studio window

  1. I gave all 5 of my men hair cuts over the weekend.  Boy, did they need it, too!  Harry had started playing with a curl on his forehead and I knew if I didn't cut it soon, he'd find scissors and attempt it himself!  Yeah, it's happened before!  Not pretty! ha.
  2. I couldn't believe it when I got an automated email from www.organizedchristmas.com on Monday, announcing that Christmas was 8 weeks away and my daily plan for a stress-free holiday started that day! ha.  I follow this plan very loosely and it does get me doing things just a little earlier than I used to.  I'm not talking decorating, but a little planning, cookie baking, gift buying, etc.  Early is better than late, especially if you run a little gift basket business from your home.  Whenever I wait until the last minute, I have a sick boy, or a snow day, etc.
  3. I also got a note from the turkey farm that they are ready to take Thanksgiving orders!  I always enjoy my little trek, about an hour away, to pick up that turkey a couple of days before Thanksgiving.
  4. Seriously, I just want to concentrate on finishing up this half-house reno before even thinking of holidays!  It's not even Halloween yet!
  5. I did drive into our neighborhood today and saw the neighbors putting up their Christmas decorations.  Not just lights to turn on later, but wreaths, garland and Christmas ribbon!  Wonder what the trick-or-treaters are going to think! ha.

    1. Yes, your Thanksgiving is certainly at a better time! I'd petition to move ours earlier, but then the masses would try to move Black Friday, too! ha.

    1. Very fallish, don't you think? We didn't have a peak of leaf color this year...rain and wind took that away, sorry to say.

    2. Don't know if you saw a recent FB post of mine but I took some photos in a nearby park. Some trees were still glorious and colourful and others... buck naked!

    1. Yep...very fresh! You can hear the flocks gobbling when you walk in! So funny! Actually, I wouldn't miss the turkey if it wasn't on the table...I'm all about the side dishes and desserts!

  4. The Garden and Shopping Centres here have been selling Christmas stuff since the first of September. Already I've even seen one selling "toppings", these are the very top of mature spruce trees. The Forestry Commission harvest their trees for telegraph poles etc at this time of the year, and cut off the top 3ft - 6ft and sell as Christmas trees when they have been dipped in a bath of a chemicals to stop the needles falling off.

    1. Here we have "wreaths" to place on a loved ones grave, and ones to hang on the entrance door called "garlands". They have brightly coloured ribbons and flowers on them and even little Santas on them!

    2. I remember seeing some Christmas items in stores back in September, too...even music! I just try to ignore it. We don't mix our holidays. haha.

We have wreaths like that, too, for graves. The Mister says he's burying me in the back yard with the cats that are already there. I wonder if I'll get a wreath at Christmas. haha. Some how I doubt it.

    2. Yes, I have always cut it. Back when we first got married and had no money for haircuts, I went with him one time and watched closely and thought, "I can do that"....and so I always have!

December 1st sounds good to me, too! Perfect!

    2. I don't want to think about Christmas yet, either . . . but I've had White Christmas playing in my head for weeks now!! (due to my youngest practicing it for a concert.)
3.It must be so wonderful to be able to have a fresh turkey like that every year!
4.YES! One thing at a time for sure!! (oh- and new counters are the ALL TIME BEST treat I could ever think of for the 31st!!)

    1. Cutting their hair isn't my favorite thing to do either! But it sure has saved tons of money over 30 years!

Oh, kids in school make Christmas come early with those programs! haha....I don't miss that.

I do love the fresh turkey. We just got a bone-in breast last year since white meat is preferred.

I cannot wait for the counter tops. The cardboard is old...very, very old. ha.

Yes, I think so, too! I can see stringing lights while it is warm and just not turning them on..but the wreath shocked me. lol....I guess if it was after Halloween it wouldn't have been so bad. Another neighbor down the street still had their lights on in APRIL! Oh my!

  11. I have to check out that Christmas website. I need all the help I can get. I always get behind the 8 ball with waiting to buy a fresh tree. I guess I just need to put the decorations up before I get it, it just makes sense even though I don't like to. I also have a bath and office I want painted and I just don't see it happening. And then January will come, we will get it done and there will be no company!! Yes, I need an organizing website! lol!

    1. Check it out...like I said, it's almost over the top, but I get good tips from it and it does remind me that it isn't too early to do things. Some of the first things they have you do is decide if you're freshening up rooms for company, so you'd be right in step with that!

  12. Wow, that's a little crazy to put up Christmas this early..maybe they just want to get that part out of the way! But, I really can't talk..I'm already buying gifts ! I might need to check that site out myself.

  13. I would prefer that the leaves fall off the trees before I have to look at Christmas decorations. I'm still feeling into fall colors and pumpkins right now.
Oh, dear! Is it really time to start planning for Christmas already?

  14. EEEKKKKK! Christmas ?????

I need to get all my presents ready before Thanksgiving cause we take them "there" instead of mailing them. That's my excuse. What's everyone else's?
We still have leaves that need to drop and be picked up, apples to harvest and sweaters to bring out!
With ya on the Christmas decor!

    1. Then you have just over three weeks! I like to shop without pressure, so I tend to do the shopping a bit early. And I hate it when things are picked over and I can't find what I want. Online shopping is my fave...so easy and I can do it in my jammies!

  16. Oh my, your reminder that Christmas is that close gave me shivers. I guess we better draw our name for Christmas at Thanksgiving so we have time to shop. Now that the only little ones we have are Issac, Matthew and Tristan...we can draw names and get one nice gift. It worked well last year. Then everyone buys for the little ones.
I love your photo. Just lovely.

  18. We have really dialed it back this year for Halloween and we already have a jump on Christmas because dear husband never actually took the lights down from last year - yep, we were one of THOSE people for the year - it did look a bit silly during the summer, but now that it is fall I think he is glad he doesn't have to crawl up on the roof in the cold. And its not like we turned them on :)
