We had sun, then rain, and then more sun!
I picked strawberries and made lemon sugar cookie bars.
I did dishes and laundry and ate sweet cherries.
I mixed up some cilantro-lime-cumin butter
for that sweet corn, and talked to Velvet on the porch swing.
She's the mother to nine of my cats but she won't let me pet her
and she has that look like she doesn't trust anyone.
I think she must have been abused before coming here.
She knows I won't hurt her and has let me touch her kittens
but I'm not allowed to pet her! Little by little she is becoming
more relaxed and even lay on the foot of the bed the other
day while I sat there having coffee before getting up.
It seems that Slate is star struck over Grey!
Yesterday, they saw me on the front porch from a few houses
down and came running home together like a
scene from the movie Homeward Bound.
He just lights up when she's around and follows her everywhere!
Do you think it's her eyeliner or perhaps her white bikini? ha.
And Hilary, here's the other side of my tea cup that you wanted to see!
Taylor and Lauren will be here for dinner soon.
Need to shuck sweet corn!
Enjoy your evening!
♥
I don't think kitty on the swing was about to give up her spot. Look at that face. haha! Enjoyed your pretty photos today on this rainy, dull, day.
ReplyDeleteShe's saying, "You can look, but you cannot touch!" ha.
Deletemmm how is that butter? sounds good...no rain here today...i actually got the grass cut...it needed it...
ReplyDeletepicked grapes too...only about a week left of them....domino caught a rabbit yesterday...
he was so proud...it was grisly though...ha
I'd love to have grapes to pick...you've had a nice long season of them, too...sound so good!
DeleteIt's birds that keep getting caught here. :( Whiskers came in last night with feathers in her whiskers. Bad girl!
I'll let you know about the butter...haven't had dinner yet!
Deletethumbs up on the butter...kind of like Mexican Street Corn!
DeleteAh she looks seriously Betsy!
ReplyDeletePoor thing maybe she was abused.
Love yours strawberries.
And I love lemon bars!
These look delicious.
Hope you have a fun time with big kids:)
Yes, she is always so serious! Poor girl. I give her treats in hopes to win her over. haha.
DeleteYou have such nice, full, interesting days, Betsy. Poor Velvet. She must have had a really bad past if she shies away from you. Maybe Slate will be a good influence on her. How sweet that he has a girlfriend! Hope you aren't jealous. :-) Those lemon bars look so tempting. I rarely have the ambition to bake anymore. Lynne in NC
ReplyDeleteVelvet is slowly but surely getting there. But she's lived here three years and I've touched her tail a few times and gotten the evil eye. haha.
DeleteNo, not jealous of Grey....she's a beauty, so I can hardly blame Slate. But it is amusing to see him...he's all giddy around her!
The butter you made for the sweet corn sounds yummy. We have been having a lot of sweet corn too.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that cute little plate that looks like asparagus. Is it a spoon rest?
It is a spoon rest! I found it at the thrift store yesterday and it jumped into my cart. ha.
DeleteShe does have that don't touch me look
ReplyDeleteEven though she knows it is safe at your nook
Homeward bound you say
Need a mutt or two for that to play haha
No mutts around
DeleteNot even a hound
But they ran home together that way
we just needed music as they swayed. ha.
haha surprised a stray mutt
DeleteHasn't found its way to your hut
a little happy music for the two
Would have been funny to come due
What a lot of photos today, you have been busy. It's a wonder the camera isn't worn out! I love the vase in the first picture, I've got an aspidistra that would look very nice in that . . . Just saying.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but notice the cup of green tea, I think you put that there to get me going, but I'm not taking the bait this time !
My next door neighbours cat, Henry, is also one of the "Don't you DARE touch me!" brigade, just like velvet, and I've known him for eleven years.
I did have a busy day! So you like the planter? It's majolica...got it at the auction not too long ago. Wait until you see my wicker chair. I haven't cleaned it up to bring it inside yet. :)
DeleteI look forward to Wednesdays, just to see what you are up to.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good day!
There for a while we were having an auction every Wednesday...I missed my little series! ha. It was a good day....got a lot done and enjoyed doing it. :)
DeleteI like Velvet. She knows she is loved and taken care of, but she has to guard her independence at the same time. She owns the place, I think.
ReplyDeleteI like your baking pictures. I should be doing more of that and sending it off with my children. The zucchini has to go into something!
yes, I always tell her that she is the queen of the zoo...the matriarch! haha.
DeleteI haven't done any baking with my zucchini yet! I do love some sweet breads stocked up in the freezer...need to go from savory to sweet at some point!
Love these kind of days..so much accomplished...lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteYou are a hard working gal Betsy....and I truly admire you for all you do...
Velvet is beautiful...just like her name..
We had not a drop of rain...but I did hear thunder around 2 pm...I was in the garden...deadheading!
Hope you had a great meal with the kids...how was your corn?
Cheers!
Linda :o)
I think this is my favorite kind of day, too....stay at home and just enjoy getting things done in a relaxed, fun way.
DeleteWe had several nice rain showers...I was glad...my veggie garden was looking thirsty.
The corn was wonderful....I could eat it every night...actually we have this week!
Your day sounds wonderful to me. Back to work at this house :( Are those lemon bars?
ReplyDeleteI always forget that your school year starts a good month before ours! Poor you!
DeleteNot lemon bars...just my sugar cookie recipe pressed into a pan....didn't feel like making all the cookies! HA.
Looks like another busy day! Oooh the baking looks so yummy!
ReplyDeleteAnd your organized recipes are very inspiring to look at! I so need to get at my own, but they are far far down priority wise . . .
Have a lovely dinner :)
I have a stack of recipes I've printed out waiting to be transferred to index cards and filed in there....it's very far down my priority list, too! haha.
DeleteYour butter for the corn sounds delicious! I love seeing your sweet kitties. Hope you have a good evening.
ReplyDeleteIt was really good...a nice change, too!
DeleteMy Wednesday list was much like yours..a little of this and a little of that. Don't you just love it when those thrift store 'finds' jump into your cart?? I really have to watch those 'jumpers' when I go to the thrift store! haha
ReplyDeleteYou have that problem, too?. Hahaha.....it's such a great place to shop...love doing it!
DeleteHi Betsy - wonderful photos and story telling around your sunny, wet, sunny day - just right for growing strawbugs ... and spending a little time relaxing with Mamma velvet, and then baking ... lucky lads when they got home ... and I love the idea of the cilantro-lime-cumin butter with the corn - I do love corn! Happy day today .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteDo you eat sweet corn there? Someone told me it wasn't available in England.
DeleteI am with Keith - love that planter! I hope Velvet keeps growing more comfortable. She is very beautiful and obviously trusts her babies with you. Awww, Slate is smitten. Cute cat cooing.
ReplyDeleteYes, she certainly trusts me and brought her litters here for safety. Poor girl. She has come a long way, though. She wouldn't come inside the first year...then she started sleeping on a chair....and now our bed. We can get close but she gets skittish. She loves tiger ....so cute to see her try to charm him. Haha.
DeleteMy you have been busy!
ReplyDeleteSuch a whirlwind of activity and a great collection of photos.
Love that planter too.
Shame Velvet won't let you pet her .
On my way walking to town I meet two black cats and always stop to pet them. When they see me coming they run over and meow as if to say hello - If I start petting one they other one comes as well . . . and they won't let me go . . . . keep following and walking right in my path to stop me in my tracks.
That seat swing looks really cool. Just been looking at how it is made - if I had the room I would build one. Do you think it would take my weight? . . . . lol
So cute about the black cats! Haha. They know an old softie when they see one! You could build a porch swing easily! And if you keep up that walking, it could hold two of you. .....lol.....not that we would WANT two of you, though. Lol.....hahahaha...
DeleteCheeky thing!! . . . . but one of me is sure more than enough!! . . . lol
DeleteYes . . . even the cats seem to know I am a big softie - aren't they good judges of character? . . . lol
I was holding off commenting here thinking Keith would like a go at a reply. haha. Yes, one of you is more than enough!
DeleteSuch a beautiful photojournal of your day, Betsy. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteThanks, tanna......if I'm mindful of photographing, it helps me focus on just how pretty ordinary things can be. :)
DeleteWell, I certainly don't do all the interesting things you do on Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteHubby and I went on our weekly Wednesdate and had the senior buffet with another couple.
That's always enjoyable.
Started "shoveling" out the house. Having company for dinner tonight.
Realized I have to make another trip to the grocery store. I forgot I had used up several main ingredients for dessert and salad.
The weather is so hot so I'm doing a crock pot balsamic chicken and corn on the cob. That shouldn't heat up the kitchen too badly. Temps...100F.
Of course I have to take time to cruise around Blogland. Then it's off to the races...(:0)
I love that you have a standing Wednesday date...eating out with friends is always fun!
DeleteWe're eating sweet corn just about every night...you dinner for company sounds perfect!
Another busy and productive day for you. It's lovely that Taylor and Lauren still come over for family meals. Have fun. Oh yes, I took a picture of my mug for you and added it to my blogpost.
ReplyDeleteI have visited and seen your adorable mug! I can see why it's your favorite!
DeleteIt's the cup! I saw it and thought what a sweetie for posting it. And then I saw your message. Thank you so much. Each and every one of these photos are lovely. Looks like you had a wonderful day.
