Meet Rocky

I can't claim him as my own yet, but he's passed through
our yard probably a dozen times through the winter and spring.
I'm really not even sure he is a 'he'!
I was out on the back porch over the weekend and saw his
head popping out of the violet patch and ran to get my camera.

I also grabbed a few bites of turkey and this time instead of
running off, he stayed and ate.  Seven of my own were on the porch
and they were very accepting of him.  Some cats they don't
accept, as if they know they are mean!  But look at those
kind eyes!  And what's one more black cat? ha.

And why "Rocky"?  Well, look at that beat up nose!
He's a bigger build than my slim cats.  He has burly
shoulders, a big neck, and just look at those bushy cheeks!
He has Cocoa's eyes and fur.  I wonder if he's his dad!

He didn't come back last night, so the jury is still
out as to whether he wants to join the zoo.
Or maybe he heard the house rules of no
more reproducing...and you have to get shots,
dewormed and defleed. lol....

    1. No, I don't mind. He's already roaming the neighborhood. I might as well get him neutered and make sure he's healthy!

  4. ha. perhaps he will join the zoo...and maybe we should have renamed our Domino as Scar...he gets into so many scraps...
he is a week free of them though and starting to smooth out a bit more...less scabby...lol

    1. Sounds like you have some ferals in your neighborhood you need to adopt! Then they would curl up and sleep together instead of defending their territory. haha.

  5. Ah he is cute and still..timid but whe he talks with Slate and others..ok

  6. Aww, he? is a cutie, perhaps the rules did scare him off though - do you think that Slate told him what might be coming next!! xx

    1. They probably all told! haha. It's a wonder any more come! :)

  7. Yes, I wondered if those ears didn't belong to Slate. I bet he is imparting the good, the bad, and the ugly! Although I don't think there is any ugly. Just a different way of life for potential newcomers. He/She is a solid kitty - looks very sweet though. Lovely expression. I think Rocky will decide to stay and pay his dues. It's a good life at Betsy's home for wayward animals!

    1. If you're hungry enough and are homeless, you'll stay...at least that's been the pattern!

  12. He is gorgeous. Bless you for feeding him. Our last rescue from a year ago is named Rocky (short for Rocker) because he was homeless/ injured and slept in our porch rocker for 30 hours straight. He is one of the gang now.
I saw an orange young cat today at the park that looked hungry.

    1. Slept for 30 hours? Aw. What a poor exhausted kitty he was! Makes you wonder where he came from or what he was running from. I would have had to have brought the orange kitten home or I wouldn't have been able to sleep. ha.

  13. lol what's one more
    There at your shore
    He or maybe she
Looks to be in rough shape and ready to flee
    Sure has the Rocky look
Maybe Mr. T will be next at your nook
    Or some Russian dude
    With too much attitude lol

    1. I might have to look for a girl named Adrian!
So he can have a lady friend.
His big paws look like he could box!
Maybe he'll have a match with Socks!

    2. But if you do that
He may be mad he can't get any loving when you go snip snip at your mat

    3. Oh babies they couldn't have
but a snuggle or two could be had.
      Someone to wash his face
and give him a little embrace. ha.

  14. My friend Deborah has kittens in her yard too. She's doing her best to tame them and find them happy homes.
We have a feral cat too, but he has no interest in becoming a pet. He's off like a shot when he hears us coming.
Poor Oreo is looking sicker every day. I'm still not quite sure what to do with him. :(

  15. He is adorable!! He has macho face!!! The face of an unneutered Tom, hope he stays for the snip snip!!

    1. Time will tell! I always wait until it's obvious they have claimed us as their home. He is pretty adorable, though, isn't he?

    2. I have an 18lb diabetic black cat, his name is Blacky...so original lol He was a stray when we lived in Abilene TX, he was outside for two years and when we decided to take him for a snip, found out it was already done! I think someone moved and left him behind. He has a good home with us though. He is a big boy!! Rocky is very adorable!!

    3. Aw...love that story! I think people leave their pets behind more often that we think. I can't imagine doing that...no way. They also dump them at farms and in neighborhoods to fend for themselves. Every time I take one to the cat clinic to be neutered others are there talking about how boxes of kittens get dumped at their farm. So sad. I'm glad you took Blacky in. I have some with very unimaginative names, too, lol....at first I hadn't planned on keeping them and was only naming them by color or looks to tell them apart!

  16. He's such a handsome guy! I wonder what the record is for the largest amount of black or gray cats in one house?!?

    1. Something probably astounding. Those horrid news stories where they aren't cared for and neighbors call about the stench. haha.

  17. I think Rocky is a good name...fits (him) or maybe Rockette (her)... What a great "studio" your yard is for lovely cat pictures...

    1. They come in to eat since food outside brings the possums and raccoons on the porch. We have a cat flap door so they come and go as they please. There are usually only a few inside at a time...they prefer it outside if it isn't too cold.

  19. This is so nice you spay them. But you know he looks fit so he must belong to someone.
Cats like to visit. Toms go further away than most. We have a neighbors' calico cat that comes all the time
They smell bunnies and then follow the scent I am always afraid to lose my pups cause they too are hunters
chasing both cats and bunnies. Once they get it into their head its hard to make sure they don;t take off on you.

    1. Yes, you're right and I wait a good while until it's obvious they are now living here. He is far from that stage. So time will tell!

  20. 'he' is what we refer to as a handsome traveling man. Tough to keep track of those. Ok in a cat, not so much in a husband!

  27. Oh another candidate! You really have a big heart for the furry friends, And this they must know...What strikes me most is that such a large number of cats gets along so well with each other! You and the atmosphere of your house most certainly must have a 'peacifying' effect on them ....
