This And That

  1. That was my mother-in-law's dish...the only thing I requested of hers when she died.  I always took a peak at it in her china cabinet when at her house.  I don't think she ever used it.  She was more of the Tupperware user and the good stuff was too good to use.  But I think she'd smile seeing it filled with yummy eggs.
  2. The sweet and shy Domino.
  3. On top of the china cabinet.  Both things from the auctions.
  4. Magnolia blooms.
  5. And just in case you thought Nugget was a tiny bunny. ha.  He's enjoying a dandelion breakfast.
  6. Arm & Hammer trading cards from 1902.  They were mounted and framed like this at the auction.  It had to come home with  me!

  1. Oh , how I love the egg dish. I have never seen one that special. Easy to see why you requested it. I could look at your auction finds all day long. Good thing we aren't ever at the same auction!

    1. Isn't it the sweetest dish? I loved it even in high school when I would go to their house.

Are you saying we'd be bidding up the prices against each other? ha. There's a man named Charles at the auctions that has the same taste in things as I do. Before the auctions start we always tease each other about bidding and who is going to win. So many times we pick out the same things that we want. So funny!

    Nugget is huge!
I'd like to see him next to my dog.

    1. He really is huge! He's bigger than some of our cats and yes, most certainly bigger than your little pooch! :)

  3. You are a collector after my own heart. I collect blue & white wear, rooster & hen dishes and brown transfer ware. How special that the egg dish is a family heirloom. You can pass it down to Lauren some day. Love Domino and Nugget ♥

  4. Egg dish reminded me of the deviled eggs my grandmother used to make in the 1950's. She was lucky enough to live near the Great Smokie Mountains back in the day before tourists and traffic were a problem. The eggs would always go along on our picnic dinners, and I would wade in the streams we always ate beside. Although I don't love getting old these days, at least I'm thankful for the gentler simpler times I was fortunate to grow up in. Special hugs and ear scratches to Slate. Lynne in NC

    1. I was wishing I had fresh dill from the garden to put on top of those eggs. This summer I will. But as I was making them I thought of paprika. Seems like when I was a kid they were always sprinkled with it. Potato salad, too! ha. Fun memory. We did take a family vacation to the Smokies when I was a girl. I still remember those blue, beautiful mountains!

Slate has captured my heart. He is so sweet and affectionate. He sleeps beside me, leaves sometime during the night, and then hops up to sit in my lap at 7:00 like clock work while I drink my coffee. I'll show an updated photo soon. :)

  5. I think that egg dish may be the prettiest I've ever seen too. And looks so inviting with the deviled eggs. Oh Betsy, did you see what someone put on fb this morning..a sign that said "Wicked hens lay deviled eggs" HaHa.

Those buds on the magnolia tree, sure sign of Spring. And Domino and Nugget are just so cute...fancy breakfast for Nugget, were you out picking dandelions early this morning.

I too always enjoy your This and That days.

    1. No, I didn't see that on Facebook! haha...too funny!

We have a lawn service that sprays for weeds but they don't do the garden for obvious reasons. Right now there are tons of dandies growing there. I'm sure they taste extra wonderful to Nugget after the winter! He loves the greens, but the blossoms even more!

  6. I see why you like the egg dish.
You sure pick up some great things at the auction.
That Magnolia Tree I expect is superb when all the buds are out.
I have a smaller variety in my front garden.
Nugget is huge! No wonder he can hold his own with the cats! . . . . . . :)

    1. When we first got Nugget I found an exact twin to him on the internet. I was looking to see what kind he was and how big he would grow.
Under "full grown size" it said, "No limit" !!! haha. I'm thankful he seems to have stalled out here at 'huge' and not gone on to 'mammoth'. lol....

    2. Just as well! . . . . . otherwise you might have to rename him Goliath . . . . lol :)

    3. Oh, that would be a cute name for a huge bunny! hahaha....

    4. And good job you don't have a tortoise otherwise it and Nugget would be fighting for the dandelions. I have some on my front lawn. I'd post them but they may get lost in Australia. I expect you'll get another bunny now because you like the name goliath LOL

    5. You have tortoises or dandelions on your front lawn? haha

      Delete
    6. No, when I was little my sister and I had a tortoise and this ate all the dandelions. We let it outside in a pen for the Sring/Summer/Autumn months but it hibernated during the Winter and that is where I got my idea of hibernation lol. I and all the houses in our Street have loads of dandelions in our front garden. By the way did you know that my sister blogs? She is Mafggie May at Nuts in May

    7. I had some tiny little turtles when I was young. But they didn't live long enough to hibernate winters! I've always thought turtles were so cool! I didn't know they ate dandelions!

Yes, I knew Maggie was your sister! How very fun that she blogs, too.

    8. I don't think Turtles do, Betsy but maybe!
Some Tutles live a ripe old age - just found a web stating differences of Turtles and Tortoises and a Turtle has been known to live 86 years.
Tortoises live longer and the oldest on record is 326 years!!! We gave our tortoise to Bristol Zoo 50 years ago and it might still be alive. Dandelions are not mentioned specifically!

This is an interesting site: http://www.diffen.com/difference/Tortoise_vs_Turtle

    9. Well now, I think you've taught me something! I don't think I knew there was a difference between turtles and tortoises! Maybe I learned that long ago in school and had forgotten!

      326 years? What???

    10. Was his name Methuselah? hahaha....

    11. If he lived 967 years the yes! LOL

    12. But it is a great name for a 326 year old tortoise! lol

  16. Love This and That days. Is Domino related to Jack? They look very similar. Yes... I would love a Slate update too. I am so glad he has become a favourite. Adore the egg platter - I can understand why you wanted it. Blue and white is my favourite combination too, and then when you add yellow it becomes perfect. All that softness on one bunny. I can't stand it! :-)

    1. No, Domino and Jack are not related. Domino is part of one of Velvet's litters but Jack was a loner brought to us by a friend! He's related to nobody! ha.

  21. Your Arm and Hammer trading cards remind me of the old tin band-aid box in my cabinet. It's full of old cards like that from Red Rose tea. I remember looking at them when I was a little girl.
I am looking at dishes too. I have suddenly become the owner of an entire set of china. Maybe one day I'll take it out and use it.

    5. Oh, there are enough birthdays and holidays coming up that I'm sure you'll have lots of opportunities. And you know what else? I don't hand wash china. It's actually safer in the dishwasher on the crystal/china cycle and handling all those wet slippery dishes. No excuses now! haha.
