Birthday!

Our favorite part of birthdays around here is Spencer
helping us sing the birthday song.  He's nonverbal, but
does love that song and manages to get the 'you' out
at the end of each line.  He gives a deep, off-key 'Woo'
and smiles the whole time.  Hilarious!

I always think it's fun to get the appropriate number of candles
on the cake.  The older you get the more heat it gives off!
And the brighter the glow!

Happy 23rd, Lauren!

    1. haha...we'll have to keep the fire extinguisher nearby
in case a fire were to come nigh
      from all those flames
if we did my candle game.

    2. You have one of those?
      I'd just use the hose

    3. yep, a little kitchen sized one.
Might save me blowing out a lung
if I had a little fire.
Wouldn't want it to become dire.
      haha.

    1. Exactly!

I had the cake done and her present wrapped and sitting in the dining room when the boys got home.
They hadn't been home 20 seconds and had that thing unwrapped! Geesh! Little stinkers.

  6. Happy birthday Lauren.
Glad Spencer could join in with the singing.
The other thing about the growing number of candles as the years progress is that they become harder to blow out with one exhalation!! But enough said about that!! lol
Glad you had a great time - oh to be 23 again!!

  9. Maybe you can record Spencer sometime with his birthday version! Cake looks magnificent. I was out for dinner to Ceili Cottage - an Irish pub where, in the winter, instead of sitting out on a patio, you eat in a yurt! But the yurt was empty tonight. We didn't have dessert so I am eyeing Lauren's cake. But I bet it has disappeared! She's fortunate to have in-laws like you. <3

    1. a yurt? haha...sounds very fun! I sent a lot of cake home with T & L so I wouldn't be tempted to have it for breakfast all week! ha.

    2. Here is a pic of the snow-covered yurt. I just looked at what I typed above and meant that in the summer it's an open-air patio and in the winter they erect the yurt. Looks like I meant people actually sit out on a patio in winter here - HA! Not. http://www.ceilicottage.com/

    4. Yes! I was hoping for one of those but it didn't happen last night. Maybe next time. Wednesday is burger night and I had the most amazing pork burger with Gruyère cheese. Yum! And freshly shucked oysters to start. Hmmmm... I feel like going back right now!

    1. Yep, that's his favorite part...and we get such a kick out of him every birthday. But once they figure out the gifts aren't for them, they are gone! No more partying and certainly no cake/ice cream. haha.

  16. Happy birthday to Lauren! And best wishes to your happy family, too. I am so moved by the great joy on Spencer's face! It's such an achievement of you (and the Mister) that you can make the lifes of all your children to obviously be so bright and happy.
And oh to be 23 again (but with all the knowledge of today!)!
    Best wishes Christel

    1. I've always been so happy that the boys are content and enjoy life. That is the most important thing to me. Sweet little guys. Well, not really little but they will always be my babies!

Yes, 23 again with all the wisdom of 52. I'd love that.

      Delete
    2. Oh yes, they all stay our babies in a way. Sometimes, when I worry about this or that, I have to remind me that both of my boys are well over thirty by now. And that at their age I would have thought it rather funny, if I had found out my parents to be worrying about my problems (which probably they DID, but in a very discreet way).
Did spring meanwhile arrive in Ohio? Have a beautiful day!

  20. Go, Spencer! I would love to have heard this! You are so loving to your daughter in law. I love my DIL, and try to make sure to SHOW it. After three sons and no daughters, I need to remind myself that girls enjoy and care about things that my boys didn't. It is great having another female around, though. But on to other business - the cake! Did you make it? What flavor is it? It looks divine.
