Vintage Fan

I bid on this little old fan at an auction a while back.
I loved the green color, brass blades and vintage style!
It's a Star Rite brand and about 10" tall.

It still worked!  It just needed to be cleaned up a little.

I replaced a couple of screws and cleaned it up.  It runs,
but it's extremely loud.  Maybe a little oil on the motor will help.

This was made before those close grids to prevent kids from getting
their fingers cut off.  Remember those?  We were always warned
as kids not to stick out fingers in the fans!  It just made me
want to do it all the more! haha.
But this one?  You could fit your whole hand in there! ha.

  1. We had a little gray fan just like that when I was a little girl. They look downright scary today.
Put it up on a high shelf away from those curious cats, okay?

    2. I don't plan on really using it. Too dangerous! It's so loud and rumbles like it's going to take off and fly around the room! haha.
But it is fun to look at!

You rhymed and you're first! Pat will be jealous. haha.

  2. There is no way that you would be allowed to buy something like that at auction over here!! Health and safety gone mad. It will make a nice decoration though! I like the green colour. xx

    1. Really? Not even as an antique at an auction? What happens to all the neat old stuff that might be dangerous?

    2. They cut the wire to the plug off right next to the item and sell it as a decorative object only! You would then have to have it rewired if you wanted to use it. 99% of charity (thrift) shops won't sell anything electrical because of health and safety!! Talk about crazy. You will never find an antique fan or a pretty lamp in a UK charity shop! Crazy huh!!!!!!!! xx

    3. Isn't that amazing! Well, we have our share of crazy overbearing regulations. I just didn't think any country could top us! haha.

Oh, you're right..it wasn't just fingers, but hair, too! We used to stick paper in them to watch it get chopped up. ha.

A lot times ago almost take my hair one like this omy!

    3. Right..just for decoration. It says 'summer' and is a beachy color! ha. Maybe with some seashells, too.

  5. I was just going to say that it would look perfect on your foyer table... good company with the scale. I am picturing it flying around the air with your Roomba flying around the floor. The cats would really have to skedaddle!

    2. Ha! I just had a vision of when Mary Poppins snaps her fingers and items in the room spin into drawers, beds are made and dollhouses are filled! :-)

    3. Well, some people do call me Mary Poppins! ha.

    4. I can see why! I am actually just about half-way through an interesting documentary about P. L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins. Quite fascinating and not what you would expect. I think you would enjoy it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3sqRDqVEBE

I love the architectural nature of this fan. Very cool (no pun intended!)

  6. I always stuck my finger in the fan
Hurt when it was on high and ran
Always touched the electric fence too
Maybe that is why I'm crazy at my zoo lol

    1. All those zaps have taken their toll
now you're crazy like a troll.
      Notice I didn't say gnome.
Cuz that would scare you from my home.
Knowing how much you hate that word
describing the garden statue, looking absurd.
      haha.

  7. Cute! Does it have a Low setting? If so I could see it on a high shelf where it would help circulate the air

    1. I think it's just one setting...loud and shaking. haha. You're right, though...on top of a china cabinet or book shelf, it would work!

  8. This is so cool (pardon the pun!) As soon as I saw the first picture, I was thinking ... danger! danger! This was the kind of thing that my parents were nervous wrecks about when I was a kid. It will be perfect for your summer decor. Congrats on having the winning bid! It's fun to see what you get at the auctions.

  12. Nice working fan
    Still motors it can
    A little dusty
    And a tad rusty
    Do you contemplate
    Applying some paint
    Perhaps Hammerite
But it may not look right
    Perhaps much too bold
    May look better old.
