Some Randomness and a Winner!

  1. My nosebleed boy is back.  Well, I have two, but the first one got married and moved out, so he's Lauren's problem now. ha.  Winter air, dry furnaces...a boy who won't stop the picking (geesh!)... is a bad combination.  We've brought out the humidifier, coated the inside of his nose with Neosporin (what a fun mom job!) and threatened his life a few times.  He still insists on having them at 'school', bless his heart. (grrr) Probably because I'm not there to get all over his case. ha.
  2. We're diving down into the arctic frigid air again!  It was 12F degrees when I went to the grocery today and it's supposed to be below zero before the day is done.  Brr.  One good thing...it means the snow will be around a while longer!
  3. I got 7 inches cut off my hair today!  New style.  It's a long, curly bob, if that means anything to you.  After the first snip, she said "that's a lot of hair....no turning back now!"  haha.  Usually I have to wait a week for an appointment but when I called she could take me in an hour!  It's a nice, fresh change...and thanks to some natural curl, which I usually don't play up, I just have to blow it dry and go!  I've already been told I look younger.  Well, that's good...always good. lol....
  4. And, let me congratulate Martha G. from The Kitchen Cookie   who got the most guesses correct on yesterday's little bird quiz!  The only one she didn't get was #8!  So, Martha dear, I'll be sending you the lovely blue jay figurine!  Lucky you!  May I also say that Suza and Abe tied for second place, only missing two.  And Linda was third, only missing three!  Thanks for playing along everyone, that was fun!  And I should give an honorable mention to Eddie for his lovely song/poem entered just at the last moment. ha.

    1. yay for you! :) And 8 really does look a lot like a pine sisken! I looked it up just to make sure I was right. Siskens have tiny, pointy beaks and a pinch of yellow in their wings. That was probably the hardest one!

      Send me your address! :)

  6. You got your hair cut?! Me too! But I only got 3 inches cut off...I'm not as brave as you! Can't wait to see it :-) And yes, I've taken care of my fair share of nose bleeds. This past week it was while he was playing bball which means it was all over his "lucky jersey". I'm sure you can imagine the disaster that turned into!

    1. Whoa! It must be in the water! haha. Almost got highlights. ha. If I do that, you have to do the ombre. ;)

Poor T. But at least he puts the neosporin in his own nose! lol....

  7. Haha, tell him to get his finger out of there! Thats what causes noose bleeds in the first place!

  8. Congratulations, Martha! I love that Lennox Jay and I am sure he will have a lovely home with you. It's funny, Betsy, because #8 puzzled me too. Seeing only the front of the bird made it trickier, but it was a fun game. I also learned a lot about Ohio birds in my research.

I remember my parents, who are great birders and have been all over the world birding, always kept several bird ID books in our kitchen breakfast nook which looked out onto the many birdfeeders we had. Playing this game brought me back to those days! Thanks for the memories.

  10. So when you have time and you come up for air
Get someone to snap you with much shorter hair
and post it next time so we can all see
a new younger version of our pal, Betsy
Seven inches is a great deal to cut
You can't glue it back if you have a but.
But as for looking much younger, my dear
You already look young and that is quite clear.
I wonder if you managed to surprise the Mr
And the boys now you look just like their sister,

    ROFL
    Have a good day!!

    1. lol....you crack me up. :) Yeah, I surprised The Mr! He's not big on compliments, though, so I still don't even know if he likes it. I really don't think he cares one way or another. People already say I look like his daughter...lol....oh dear. :)

    2. Well he should care!! 'nough said.

    5. Oh! and forgot earlier but I did intend to say, "Sorry about Spencer's Nose Bleed" - I know from my ambulance days sometimes they are fairly difficult to deal with. I can understand very well your worries and concerns.

    6. 47? Wow...that is very impressive! Walking is so good for you! I'm actually glad your hair isn't more than 7 inches long, Ed....a ponytail just wouldn't become you. lol....

Oh, I'm more irritated at Spencer than concerned. I just wanna slap him....kidding, kidding! (kind of) ha.

    7. No walking here today...it's -7F before the windchill!

    8. -7F brrr! I could not live in that climate!! I would look permanently like an Eskimo there all wrapped up. I hate having cold hands and a cold nose lol. Difficult enough here. I am a sunshine boy and love it nice and warm and am tempted to visit my good blogging friend in New Orleans and another on in Hawaii.

    9. Oh meant to say, a couple of weeks ago I donated my 100th pint of blood. I am doing a post about it soon.

  13. That reminds me. I must make an appointment to have my hair cut. Just can't decide whether to get my fringe cut back or not. It's taken 18 months to grow my fringe out properly (which I did because whenever I saw a photo of myself it was all in the middle of my forehead with a gap at each side) but now I have no fringe maybe I want it back. Decisions decisions.
I have really bad allergies that have caused no end of trouble with my nose. - dreadful nosebleeds for years. After many x-rays, cameras up my nose (OW!) and visits to consultants I finally found a doctor with a simple answer. Now I put a little blob of Vaseline up my nose each night. It's not perfect but it works wonders.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes...isn't that amazing! Neosporin would do the same as vaseline, I imagine...plus heal the self inflicted wounds he has given himself. But it does keep it from drying out in the winter dry air. What a journey you had to get to something so simple.

Fringe...we say 'bangs'. I like fringe better! :)

      Delete
    2. Yes why bangs?? It's such an odd description for hair.
Trust me. Vaseline each night is way better than having a camera up my nose again. I've had cameras in three other places and the nose awful. But quick. Through the navel was the most painful.

  14. One of my sons had nosebleed problems too, he seems to have grown out of them 9and it is his wife's problem now too...you crack me up) I guess I was a bit late for the quiz, but I have to tell you your bird shots are amazing! I have a junco on my blog too...a favorite!

    1. Well, I already know your junco shot is going to be amazing. :) I'll be over to look today! I hear your entire state is in freeze mode, with temps below zero! Stay warm!

  15. I used to get nosebleeds every single day for a month when I was 13. I asked my mom if she would take me to the doctor and she no, it ran in the family. Fortunately, it stopped. Hopefully one day your boys will outgrow them.

I'll trade you the frigid weather for our fog! We've had a lot of fog for the past month or so, and the weatherman said last night that it's here to stay for awhile. :(

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. wow...that's a long time to have fog! You need a strong wind to come blow it away! ha. We get fog occasionally. It's mysterious and beautiful...but maybe that's because we don't have it living with us for a month. ha.
