My Word For The Year 2014

I've never done a word of the year, but I know many people that do
and just reading some of your posts over the last week has inspired me to
join in the fun!  Wanda had a really good one (Giving) and it probably will
be my second word as I to intend on doing some fun giving over this year.
But for me personally, the word healthy was my choice.
I got busy over the last 3-4 months and stopped all the healthy habits
I usually have!  And I can really tell a difference in the way I feel!
  1. I stopped drinking my daily 6 - 8 glasses of water as soon as the weather turned cold!   Coffee just sounded better!
  2. I stopped walking on the treadmill when my etsy shop and gift basket business turned busy for the holiday season.
  3. I stopped lifting my girlie weights, too, and can tell my arthritis is worse and I feel stiff instead of flexible.
  4. I have been staying up much too late!  Must be the coffee I've opted for late in the afternoon instead of the water! ha.
  5. And as much as I love sweets, I've had my fill!  It started with the Halloween candy and never stopped through New Years!  I'm craving salads now! ha.

When I snacked on veggies today and drank lots of water, it
really was a welcome change.  Now, I need to find my girlie weights!

    1. Hey, look who is first! :)

Yes, water is good for you! And I can tell I'm not drinking as much! Gotta fix that! ha. A glass of water when you are cold just doesn't sound very good, though!

    2. I drink.a lot of water but you know how is the weather now lol

      Delete
    3. Yeah...when you are hot, it's just natural to be more thirsty and drink more!

    4. Hi Gloria - I don't mind water provided there is some beer in it ~ nice to make your acquaintance

      Delete
    5. Well Im agree a beer always is good:))

  2. Now let me see. I think I'll do this with you! Here's my take on it:

    1. Drink 6-8 cups of tea daily.
    2. Walk the dog daily.
    3. Take an aspirin and do some yoga stretching.
    4. Stay up late. Sleep late, too.
    5. Reserve the sweets only for high tea.

How is that, milady? (smiling) Shall I give it a go?

    Vincent. xo

    1. Well, I'd love that! Your list looks pretty good! I like the yoga idea. And sweets once a day..... I can handle that! lol....
No weights? You could always lift a big old dictionary or two! :) Yes, give it a go, as you say! haha.

      Delete
    2. Why, you remembered my dictionary collection! Yes, lift a few of those and it's just like a workout! Don't forget to get some fresh air each day. That can really lift the spirits, as they say!

      Delete
    3. Well, sure. I don't forget much. :) If I can't find my weights, I'll take your advice and lift a few of my old dictionaries! haha.
Fresh air? I'm a hermit, you know. I do go out and fill the bird feeder. Does that count? lol....You get to walk a dog. None of my pets need walking. lol...

      Delete
    4. That, my dear, depends upon how far you must walk to reach the feeder! Are we talking about the one in your photos that is just outside your window? Ah, you have me laughing now. No, that would not be considered a walk for fresh air. And come, now, you can't put a leash on one of those felines and go for a brisk walk? If that happens, do take along your camera!

      Delete
    5. HA! Oh, you caught me there. Yes, the feeder isn't a far walk at all. lol....

  4. I think Health is the most important thing, Betsy, so a very good choice.
I am torn between Health and Happiness!
    Can I have two words?

    1. Why yes, you can! You already have a good start on the Health, don't you!! :) If Giving can be my second word, then Happiness can be yours! :)

    7. lol....eat more veggies....brain power, you know. :)

      Delete
    8. Really - I thought brain power was fuelled by eating oily fish!!
I save my crosswords and sudokus for the day after I eat fish and chips

      Delete
    9. Well, that's a good point! But maybe it's the chips afterall? lol....

      Delete
    10. Could be!! . . . . . . IF they were cooked in vegetable oil which stacks against your first suggestion of veggies LOL. Anyway the weather is far too bad to pop out for some right now!! Blooming awful weather - I am tempted to hibernate . . . . . . brrrr!

    11. Still have rain? We didn't get more rain...just ice and then the temps are to be 40 below the freezing mark in the morning! Hibernating sounds really good! ha.

      Delete
    12. 40 below - gosh, I'd have to drink ant-freeze or I'd seize up LOL

  5. I think we all should follow your lead, at least you don't gain weight, I gained 15 pounds this year, I need to get myself motivated to lose it! Sadly I need it right now to keep me warm, lol!! Its very very cold here!

    1. No, I actually did gain a few pounds this year...I lost them in the beginning and put them back on near the end. ha. Funny how just some little changes make or break it. Stay warm! Brrr!

and it's in my mug now, you know. :)

  8. Great word for 2014 "Healthy" just saying it out loud makes me feel better. I need to do the same thing. My scales was laughing at me because I tried to tell myself those extra pounds didn't matter....they matter.. I will join you with healthy....
BTW those veggies really do look good!

    1. Wanda I was thinking about doing one of those detox purges you have done!

    2. If you google the Fat Flush Plan it gives a 3 week plan. I loaned my books to a friend or I would be happy to loan them to you. Basically it's hot lemon juice in the morning 64 oz of cran/water during the day, and no carbs or sugar. fruits, veggies, and chicken or fish. I need to do it again too...this holiday eating has left me feeling very sluggish.

      Delete
    3. Oops it's a 2 week, not "3". I've done it for a week too and that helped.

      Delete
    4. I thought it was 10 days. ha. Well, 2 weeks sounds better than 3. lol....I'll google it.

      Delete
    5. You could do it for 10 days too. I forgot to tell you NO coffee...NO tea. That was the hard part for me. I'm going to do my own modified version for a week, maybe 10 days.

      Delete
    6. No coffee. Hmm. :) The Mr. already informed me that he was not interested at all. Especially the hot lemon juice for breakfast! hahaha....I may have to investigate and do a modified version myself. It would be a complete change for the veggie/water plan I had mapped out....so, we will see.

  9. I am way to preoccupied with mommy thoughts to even think about the new year and resolutions, but salad usually comes with the start of January, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking healthy too.

    2. Prayers would be appreciated for my second born and his family. God is working but, things are not as they should be.

      Delete
    3. Sure, I'll pray. But remember.....being healthy helps you handle stress better! :)

      Delete
    4. Okay, I'll remember. Thanks. :0)

    5. Those veggies look so tasty. I also get to that point when I absolutely crave a salad. And although I have had treats around this holiday, I have also had a ton of veggies and fruit and that has made a real difference.

I don't like water in the winter either but I add a tinge of juice and it makes it easier to drink more. I also try to drink more tea. Rooibos tea is wonderfully healthy and is also helpful for arthritis. It is an anti-inflammatory. As are yams. When I stop eating yams I am much more stiff. I have never tried a detox plan... not quite sure about them... but I am thinking of it.

Used to love yoga but it is hard for me to do it anymore. However, even though I am having more mobility issues I am going to try a little harder to shake things up. I like Pilates and I am thinking about joining an aquatics class. Your 2014 word is great - because without health... everything is more difficult. I am off to have some grapes! Cheers!

      Delete
    6. The Mr. loves rooibos tea...it's his tea of choice! We always have plenty of it here...I'll try it! I bet aquatics would really make you feel good...sounds fun, too! And happy birthday, dear! Thinking of you! xo

      Delete
    7. Thank you! Yesterday I was feeling kind of punk-ish so it was not the best birthday - was supposed to meet friends for lunch but just not up to it. But today I feel a lot better so will have to celebrate now instead! Interesting about the Mr. and rooibos - I have several different types of tea going all the time, but it's one of my favourites and always makes me feel so much better. I love green tea, as you do, and I also love chai. Yummmm... but your heading is making me think I will make some hot chocolate. Join me?

      Delete
    8. And here I was thinking today was your birthday! I even made myself a note yesterday to tell you today! haha...well, I hope you have fun celebrating a second day! Hot chocolate sounds wonderful! :)

      Delete
    9. Awww, that's sweet that you made a note to yourself! Thank you. Several people wished me an early birthday on the 3rd so I have had prolonged wishes - just the way I like it! Wonder how long I can extend it?!

  10. Good word! That's something I need to focus on too!

  11. Eating fresh, healthy, life giving food is like treating our body to a day with 72 degrees and sunshine with a slight breeze and no humidity. So light and free. Eating the opposite feels like a sultry 95 with no breeze in sight and the air unbearably heavy. Haha, at least that's how I think about it! And I'm so with you on leaving the sugar behind. But that's easier said than done for me. I love to make desserts!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I love that and totally agree....lately I've been feeling unbearably heavy...kind of dragging. Just keeping up with a few healthy things gives you more energy and a better overall feeling. And no..I'm not totally giving up sweets. I'll still have dessert after dinner. But I need to reach for a carrot instead of a cookie during the day. lol....

    2. Oh Martha, that is such a great word picture of healthy eating!

  14. Great word for the year. Your veggies look yummy. Keeping them cleaned and bagged makes healthy snacking a lot easier. I have been snacking on celery a lot lately. I think out bodies crave what we are lacking in our diet.

    1. Isn't that the truth! Those radishes lay in the veggie bin for a week untouched. I cut them off their greens and washed them up and we ate half of them today. Oh my...we are lazy! I agree with the cravings, too! Celery...yum. I like the really white stalks. ha.

      Delete
    2. I like the white stalks, too! I call them the heart of the celery. If Tom cleans the celery, he puts all the white stalks in a bag for me : )

  23. Great word for the year Betsy. Healthy. Good on you. Love the bags of veggies, great idea. I am of course stealing that idea immediately and will get and do some chopping tomorrow as my eat less better move more plan starts on Friday, so I can get in to practice now! Peppermint tea as others have said above is great, and it is also good for settling tummies that are sensitive to stress. I bought some fruity tea bags to start tomorrow as well rather than sodas! Here's hoping for both of us. xx

We are just going to be glowing, we're so healthy in a few months!! lol....

  24. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned earlier, but a simple cup of hot water (plain, no lemon) before bed helps me get to sleep. It helps to warm me up and quiets my hunger.

    1. Nobody has mentioned that...and I've never heard of it either! Interesting that it staves off hunger. I'll have to try it! Thanks! 26. I love to drink lots of water all year round. In the warm weather I want it ice cold and in the cold weather, I just want it cold or room temp. Love the veggie pic and that is a good idea. Maybe I should put them in a veggie tray that seals tight but I have heard that if you put them in a Baggie and blow it full of your air then the carbon dioxide keeps them fresher. So I tried it on an avocado cut in half and it took over a week to turn brown whereas it usually only takes a few hours. I tried lettuce and it worked too.

Healthy is a good word and we can always strive to be healthy. I am thinking of looking into that Paleo lifestyle of eating. Just not sure if I can do it, so I will have to think about it.

    God bless.
