I've never done a word of the year, but I know many people that do
and just reading some of your posts over the last week has inspired me to
join in the fun! Wanda had a really good one (Giving) and it probably will
be my second word as I to intend on doing some fun giving over this year.
But for me personally, the word healthy was my choice.
I got busy over the last 3-4 months and stopped all the healthy habits
I usually have! And I can really tell a difference in the way I feel!
- I stopped drinking my daily 6 - 8 glasses of water as soon as the weather turned cold! Coffee just sounded better!
- I stopped walking on the treadmill when my etsy shop and gift basket business turned busy for the holiday season.
- I stopped lifting my girlie weights, too, and can tell my arthritis is worse and I feel stiff instead of flexible.
- I have been staying up much too late! Must be the coffee I've opted for late in the afternoon instead of the water! ha.
- And as much as I love sweets, I've had my fill! It started with the Halloween candy and never stopped through New Years! I'm craving salads now! ha.
When I snacked on veggies today and drank lots of water, it
really was a welcome change. Now, I need to find my girlie weights!
really was a welcome change. Now, I need to find my girlie weights!
♥
Good idea Betsy water.is reallu good for you!
ReplyDeleteHey, look who is first! :)
DeleteYes, water is good for you! And I can tell I'm not drinking as much! Gotta fix that! ha. A glass of water when you are cold just doesn't sound very good, though!
I drink.a lot of water but you know how is the weather now lol
DeleteYeah...when you are hot, it's just natural to be more thirsty and drink more!
DeleteHi Gloria - I don't mind water provided there is some beer in it ~ nice to make your acquaintance
DeleteWell Im agree a beer always is good:))
DeleteNow let me see. I think I'll do this with you! Here's my take on it:
ReplyDelete1. Drink 6-8 cups of tea daily.
2. Walk the dog daily.
3. Take an aspirin and do some yoga stretching.
4. Stay up late. Sleep late, too.
5. Reserve the sweets only for high tea.
How is that, milady? (smiling) Shall I give it a go?
Vincent. xo
Well, I'd love that! Your list looks pretty good! I like the yoga idea. And sweets once a day..... I can handle that! lol....
DeleteNo weights? You could always lift a big old dictionary or two! :) Yes, give it a go, as you say! haha.
Why, you remembered my dictionary collection! Yes, lift a few of those and it's just like a workout! Don't forget to get some fresh air each day. That can really lift the spirits, as they say!
DeleteWell, sure. I don't forget much. :) If I can't find my weights, I'll take your advice and lift a few of my old dictionaries! haha.
DeleteFresh air? I'm a hermit, you know. I do go out and fill the bird feeder. Does that count? lol....You get to walk a dog. None of my pets need walking. lol...
That, my dear, depends upon how far you must walk to reach the feeder! Are we talking about the one in your photos that is just outside your window? Ah, you have me laughing now. No, that would not be considered a walk for fresh air. And come, now, you can't put a leash on one of those felines and go for a brisk walk? If that happens, do take along your camera!
DeleteHA! Oh, you caught me there. Yes, the feeder isn't a far walk at all. lol....
DeleteI.love Wanda word too. Is lovely!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it? I'm going to do something fun for giving on my blog next month, so be ready to join in! :)
DeleteI think Health is the most important thing, Betsy, so a very good choice.
ReplyDeleteI am torn between Health and Happiness!
Can I have two words?
Why yes, you can! You already have a good start on the Health, don't you!! :) If Giving can be my second word, then Happiness can be yours! :)
DeleteOK It's a deal
DeleteHi Eddie.I think.happiness is a nice word too!
Deletehealth and happiness...they just go together!
DeleteHi Gloria and Betsy LOL
DeleteYes - but as were are in complete agreement I would add
WEALTH
OK? LOL
haha...well, now that is just icing on the cake! :)
DeleteAnd stamina - because it takes ages to think of all these reply comments to your most interesting blog and conversations
Deletelol....eat more veggies....brain power, you know. :)
DeleteReally - I thought brain power was fuelled by eating oily fish!!
DeleteI save my crosswords and sudokus for the day after I eat fish and chips
Well, that's a good point! But maybe it's the chips afterall? lol....
DeleteCould be!! . . . . . . IF they were cooked in vegetable oil which stacks against your first suggestion of veggies LOL. Anyway the weather is far too bad to pop out for some right now!! Blooming awful weather - I am tempted to hibernate . . . . . . brrrr!
DeleteStill have rain? We didn't get more rain...just ice and then the temps are to be 40 below the freezing mark in the morning! Hibernating sounds really good! ha.
Delete40 below - gosh, I'd have to drink ant-freeze or I'd seize up LOL
Deletelol....
DeleteI think we all should follow your lead, at least you don't gain weight, I gained 15 pounds this year, I need to get myself motivated to lose it! Sadly I need it right now to keep me warm, lol!! Its very very cold here!
ReplyDeleteNo, I actually did gain a few pounds this year...I lost them in the beginning and put them back on near the end. ha. Funny how just some little changes make or break it. Stay warm! Brrr!
Deletehaha that is my word of the day
ReplyDeleteWhether I like it or not at my bay
If I want to move about
Have to do that and keep the crap out
Yep, do what you have to do
Deleteto be able to live and move!
But nettle tea will not be
on my menu, between you and me.
Green tea I like though
and it's in my mug now, you know. :)
You even started yoga!
I might have to join ya!
ha.
haha nettle tea is done
DeleteThat did things that were no fun
Yoga and workouts I do
6 days a week at my zoo
haha...guess I don't want to know
Deletewhat that tea did at your show.
The workouts I think feel good.
Do it more, I should.
Always nice to see other people being healthy...
ReplyDeleteother people? ha.
DeleteGreat word for 2014 "Healthy" just saying it out loud makes me feel better. I need to do the same thing. My scales was laughing at me because I tried to tell myself those extra pounds didn't matter....they matter.. I will join you with healthy....
ReplyDeleteBTW those veggies really do look good!
Wanda I was thinking about doing one of those detox purges you have done!
DeleteIf you google the Fat Flush Plan it gives a 3 week plan. I loaned my books to a friend or I would be happy to loan them to you. Basically it's hot lemon juice in the morning 64 oz of cran/water during the day, and no carbs or sugar. fruits, veggies, and chicken or fish. I need to do it again too...this holiday eating has left me feeling very sluggish.
DeleteOops it's a 2 week, not "3". I've done it for a week too and that helped.
DeleteI thought it was 10 days. ha. Well, 2 weeks sounds better than 3. lol....I'll google it.
DeleteYou could do it for 10 days too. I forgot to tell you NO coffee...NO tea. That was the hard part for me. I'm going to do my own modified version for a week, maybe 10 days.
DeleteNo coffee. Hmm. :) The Mr. already informed me that he was not interested at all. Especially the hot lemon juice for breakfast! hahaha....I may have to investigate and do a modified version myself. It would be a complete change for the veggie/water plan I had mapped out....so, we will see.
DeleteI am way to preoccupied with mommy thoughts to even think about the new year and resolutions, but salad usually comes with the start of January, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking healthy too.
ReplyDeleteMommy thoughts? Well, of course, you aren't alone there! I suppose I will never be out of that stage. :)
DeletePrayers would be appreciated for my second born and his family. God is working but, things are not as they should be.
DeleteSure, I'll pray. But remember.....being healthy helps you handle stress better! :)
DeleteOkay, I'll remember. Thanks. :0)
DeleteThose veggies look so tasty. I also get to that point when I absolutely crave a salad. And although I have had treats around this holiday, I have also had a ton of veggies and fruit and that has made a real difference.
DeleteI don't like water in the winter either but I add a tinge of juice and it makes it easier to drink more. I also try to drink more tea. Rooibos tea is wonderfully healthy and is also helpful for arthritis. It is an anti-inflammatory. As are yams. When I stop eating yams I am much more stiff. I have never tried a detox plan... not quite sure about them... but I am thinking of it.
Used to love yoga but it is hard for me to do it anymore. However, even though I am having more mobility issues I am going to try a little harder to shake things up. I like Pilates and I am thinking about joining an aquatics class. Your 2014 word is great - because without health... everything is more difficult. I am off to have some grapes! Cheers!
The Mr. loves rooibos tea...it's his tea of choice! We always have plenty of it here...I'll try it! I bet aquatics would really make you feel good...sounds fun, too! And happy birthday, dear! Thinking of you! xo
DeleteThank you! Yesterday I was feeling kind of punk-ish so it was not the best birthday - was supposed to meet friends for lunch but just not up to it. But today I feel a lot better so will have to celebrate now instead! Interesting about the Mr. and rooibos - I have several different types of tea going all the time, but it's one of my favourites and always makes me feel so much better. I love green tea, as you do, and I also love chai. Yummmm... but your heading is making me think I will make some hot chocolate. Join me?
DeleteAnd here I was thinking today was your birthday! I even made myself a note yesterday to tell you today! haha...well, I hope you have fun celebrating a second day! Hot chocolate sounds wonderful! :)
DeleteAwww, that's sweet that you made a note to yourself! Thank you. Several people wished me an early birthday on the 3rd so I have had prolonged wishes - just the way I like it! Wonder how long I can extend it?!
DeleteGood word! That's something I need to focus on too!
ReplyDeleteI think we all can! :)
DeleteEating fresh, healthy, life giving food is like treating our body to a day with 72 degrees and sunshine with a slight breeze and no humidity. So light and free. Eating the opposite feels like a sultry 95 with no breeze in sight and the air unbearably heavy. Haha, at least that's how I think about it! And I'm so with you on leaving the sugar behind. But that's easier said than done for me. I love to make desserts!
ReplyDeleteI love that and totally agree....lately I've been feeling unbearably heavy...kind of dragging. Just keeping up with a few healthy things gives you more energy and a better overall feeling. And no..I'm not totally giving up sweets. I'll still have dessert after dinner. But I need to reach for a carrot instead of a cookie during the day. lol....
DeleteOh Martha, that is such a great word picture of healthy eating!
DeleteIsn't it? I loved that...so very true!
DeleteI don't have a problem drinking water in cold weather, but the big box of peppermint teabags at Whole Foods today would make it taste even better :-)
ReplyDeleteyum....I agree with that! And tea is good for you, too!
Deleteah i need to refind some of those habits as well...tomorrow is the last day of vacation and i think i will be taking up a few of them...the water...and the weights...i got a new set for christmas...and sit ups...so i will be right there with you....
ReplyDeletenew weights for Christmas...nice! It's always more fun when you know others are doing it, too! :)
DeleteGreat word for the year. Your veggies look yummy. Keeping them cleaned and bagged makes healthy snacking a lot easier. I have been snacking on celery a lot lately. I think out bodies crave what we are lacking in our diet.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth! Those radishes lay in the veggie bin for a week untouched. I cut them off their greens and washed them up and we ate half of them today. Oh my...we are lazy! I agree with the cravings, too! Celery...yum. I like the really white stalks. ha.
DeleteI like the white stalks, too! I call them the heart of the celery. If Tom cleans the celery, he puts all the white stalks in a bag for me : )
DeleteIt just has a better taste, doesnt it? And it isn't stringy! ha.
DeleteOops - sorry - I ended up in Martha's spot! :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I definitely am struggling with healthy habits lately.
ReplyDeleteLet's blame it on the holidays! ha.
DeleteGOOD FOR YOU!
ReplyDeleteI'm cheering you on and will join you (not the word but trying for more health)
GO GIRL GO!
ok....pass the celery.... ha.
DeleteI'm with you girl! I'm just sick of my BAD habits which took over from Sept. until now. LOL! Eating healthy actually sounds GOOD! Onward to health! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteit does sound good! Munch, munch! haha.
DeleteAh, found my doppelgänger .... Raising my glass of water ~~ Cheers!
ReplyDeletehaha....Cheers! :)
DeleteGreat choice Betsy....best of luck!
ReplyDeleteCandy is not my weakness....I am Mrs Potato Head!
But.....I think we eat pretty healthy...
How much do your girlie weights weigh?
I was up to 2 10lb'ers at my fitness peak....probably down to 7's now! Ha!
Enjoy your Sunday...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
haha...oh, I love my potatoes, too. :) My weights are only 5 lbs each. 10 lbs? Whoa, you're good! I was just to the point where I needed an increase and then stopped altogether. So, give me a few weeks. ha.
DeleteGreat word! When your page opened on my computer the vegetables looked like a beautiful flower arrangement...fresh, colorful, good for you!
ReplyDeleteI've always heard if your plate of food is colorful, you can be assured you're getting plenty of nutrition! :)
DeleteOh Gosh You hit the nail on the head.
ReplyDeleteHolidays are sure a mess when it comes to changing routines.
Thank fully they don;t last long. I hate New Year resolutions cause I never
adhere to them
Just hope for the best with each day.
I swear I need to buy Halloween candy that I hate. That would at least put me off until Thanksgiving! lol....
DeleteGreat word for the year Betsy. Healthy. Good on you. Love the bags of veggies, great idea. I am of course stealing that idea immediately and will get and do some chopping tomorrow as my eat less better move more plan starts on Friday, so I can get in to practice now! Peppermint tea as others have said above is great, and it is also good for settling tummies that are sensitive to stress. I bought some fruity tea bags to start tomorrow as well rather than sodas! Here's hoping for both of us. xx
ReplyDeleteI haven't really started yet, either as I still have M&M's in a candy jar on my desk. ha. But I have been drinking water and munching on veggies, too. :) I gave up soda several years ago...so good for you! Better for you and you won't have that expense, either! We are just going to be glowing, we're so healthy in a few months!! lol....
DeleteI'm not sure if it's been mentioned earlier, but a simple cup of hot water (plain, no lemon) before bed helps me get to sleep. It helps to warm me up and quiets my hunger.
ReplyDeleteNobody has mentioned that...and I've never heard of it either! Interesting that it staves off hunger. I'll have to try it! Thanks! Hey, are you the same Ms. Anonymous that commented a couple of days ago? I like to keep you all straight! ha. Do you mind leaving your first name or initials, too, just so I can remember you? That would be great and so much fun to chat.
DeleteThe hot water drink at bedtime was my first post. I find using the Reply as confusing, so I just usually leave it at anonymous. I'm Leslie from New Orleans. I have a 24 y/o daughter (only child) with mild/moderate cerebral palsy and mental retardation, epilepsy, ADHD-Inattentive and High Functioning Autism.
DeleteHi, Leslie! So great to meet you! Sounds like you have your hands full with your daughter...and she's just a little older than my boys! Hope you're staying warm down there...I hear this cold weather is even reaching you!
DeleteMore water; that is so easy to forget! I like the idea of a cup of hot water before bedtime.
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy your beautiful photos!
I know! It really is. I just don't feel thirsty in the cold weather! Thanks for stopping by, Pat. I might try that hot water before bedtime, too!
DeleteI love to drink lots of water all year round. In the warm weather I want it ice cold and in the cold weather, I just want it cold or room temp. Love the veggie pic and that is a good idea. Maybe I should put them in a veggie tray that seals tight but I have heard that if you put them in a Baggie and blow it full of your air then the carbon dioxide keeps them fresher. So I tried it on an avocado cut in half and it took over a week to turn brown whereas it usually only takes a few hours. I tried lettuce and it worked too.
ReplyDeleteHealthy is a good word and we can always strive to be healthy. I am thinking of looking into that Paleo lifestyle of eating. Just not sure if I can do it, so I will have to think about it.
God bless.
I have seen "paleo" everywhere on Pinterest but haven't taken the time to investigate what it is!
DeleteI'm going to try your little trick...especially on avocados! :)
As always - inspiration starts right here at My Five Men . . .
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy . such a great idea - love your bagged veggies .. I shall join you once my workmen have finished giving me a dust bowl to clean up! Happy New Year .. and hope you're not toooo cold .. Hilary
